3 stars since we did not purchase a puppy from her, but did find her very communicative and her environment tidy for the puppy. Karen was a recommendation to me since we've been interested in bringing a French Bulldog puppy into our home. Karen is not a breeder, but is a middle-person who brings puppies into Illinois from surrounding states. I guess you could consider her a "Puppy Broker". The origin of her puppies from what she told me is they come from out of state breeders and are AKC. She has also been working with these breeders for several years. We scheduled an appointment to meet Karen and the puppy. Karen was friendly and her home was a very tidy environment. The puppy area was spacious, had toys and a puppy bed. Karen answered all our questions. She also takes pride in her clientele, some of whom are public figures that she proudly displays their photos and thank yous. The puppy was adorable! She let us play with him for a while as we asked her questions. Karen gets three stars based on our positive experience with her and our newness to bringing a puppy into our home in this capacity. Neither one of us has ever worked with a Breeder or Middle-person like Karen. The reason we chose not to get a puppy from Karen is we decided to go with an actual Breeder where we could know and understand the lineage better. With Karen not being the breeder, this was something she was unable to provide. A few years ago we were fortunate enough to find out about Karen's Puppies. We had already adopted a little pup as a rescue from a shelter and had been working for years on his behavior. We did training in the home and with a trainer, nothing really worked. A friend whose Dad is a vet recommended a companion animal for our rescue. Karen had the right French bulldog pup at the right time. We brought her home and she's become a fixture in our lives. Thanks to Karen we got a new member of the family. We found Taco (our frenchie) online and reached out to Karen to come meet him, she replied right away and was very helpful throughout the process. We were a little hesitant at first because of the negative review on here but she explained the situation and how she sold the dog years ago. I grew up with golden retrievers and understand that things can happen throughout the dogs lifetime that could result in these types of injuries. Based on some of the horror stories we read online, we asked Karen to show us pictures of him with his mom, pictures of his parents, and pictures of him throughout the process until she got him and she willingly showed us all everything we asked. She also provided breeder information when we asked as well. When we left with taco she provided us with some food, a toy, and newspaper to use until we got peepads. Tacos first vet visit went great and the vet said he was perfectly healthy. We received Tacos paperwork a few weeks after getting him and everything seemed in good order. SICK SICK SICK DISEASED VERY VERY VERY SICK PUPPY from Karen. We paid three thousand dollars to Karen on 4/28/2020. There was bright red blood on the puppies back side when we picked him up at Karen's home. This puppy had been having bloody diarrhea prior to arriving at Karen's residence in Illinois and certainly prior to our purchase of the dog. Karen assured us that it was from a "stress colitis" and that everything would be fine. She gave the puppy a dose of metronidazole before putting the dog in our car. I had a veterinarian examine Karen's dog the next day on 4/29/2020. The puppy was confirmed to be infected with both Giardia and Coccidia. The puppy was so so very sick right off of the bat that within the first few days we had to take it to the Emergency Room for IV fluids just to keep it alive. Karen's puppy would not eat any food, it would just drink a little bit of water. We treated our puppy with multiple rounds of antibiotic and anti parasitic therapy. The puppy continued to have hematochezia (bloody diarrhea) despite guideline directed therapy. Subsequently I consulted with a Gastroenterologist regarding Metronidazole resistant Giardiasis. The puppy had no improvement in the bloody diarrhea despite all available treatments. Therefore the puppy's illness was determined to be a congenital defect. After 5 months of bright red bloody diarrhea we surrendered our dog to a rescue organization. Although legally we are protected by the Illinois Puppy Lemon Law, and although legally we are entitled to a full refund from Karen for the price we paid for the dog, she cut off all contact with us. Therefore in my considered experience with Karen, I would discourage any and all prospective buyers. Karen is not to be trusted. read more

We found an adorable puppy on Karen's website and made plans to go adopt it. Unfortunately, Karen started acting very strangely when we asked for medical records. The original information she provided turned out to be incorrect including the breeder the dog came from and its health information. When she finally sent a photo of the health information, it was blurry and illegible. Karen is a middleman. She doesn't breed the dogs and she won't share her breeders information with buyers. If you're in the market for a puppy, DO NOT ADOPT IT FROM KAREN. She's not handling this with the care and attention it requires. When you're asking thousands of dollars for a dog, you can't ask people to act on faith alone. Have up-to-date records and be willing to share them. read more

RUN. AVOID THIS WOMAN LIKE THE PLAGUE. She is selling dogs from puppy mills in the Midwest. After communicating with her via text for a few months, we decided it was time to add a dog to our family. We picked out a cute French bulldog from Karen and made arrangements to pick him up at her home. When I arrived, I immediately wanted to leave as it seemed unsanitary but I thought, I didn't want to disappoint my family by coming home without the puppy we had spent weeks preparing for. I immediately noticed his stomach seemed large and distended but Karen assured me that he's a puppy and that's how they looked. I paid thousands of dollars for him and left. We take him to the vet the next day to get checked out and the vet found it odd that he had already received several Parvovirus vaccinations and told us this was unusual and usually done when breeders want to mask the virus by over vaccinating them. Anyway, his stool showed a parasite, not the end of the world and after 10 days of medication, he should be fine but 5 days later he is sicker than we ever could imagine. I call Karen and she drives over with an IV that is half empty. Why would she have a half empty IV? Well, because this has probably happened before but I ignore another red flag and allow her to administer the IV with the hopes she could save the dog. The next day, dog is extremely ill so for 3 days in a row we take him back to our vet, spend $1000+ to then learn the dog has Parvovirus and needs urgent 24hr care. I drive him to the hospital, admit him, spend another $5000 for 4 nights of care, tubes in his nose and stomach, fluids, ultrasounds, bloodwork, etc. After 4 nights he comes home and is still recovering and we're still not out of the woods. In the meantime, I start to research the breeder listed on his paperwork and find this "breeder" is actually a puppy mill in Missouri. I confront Karen and she refunds my money that I paid for the dog after telling me i was wrong and it's not a puppy mill. Walnut Ridge Kennel in Stoutland, MO. Devonna Francis - she is listed on numerous sites as someone operating a puppy mill. This explains the over vaccinations, the Parvovirus, the distended stomach. This poor dog has been mistreated since birth and then Karen has the audacity to sell him for top dollar masquerading him as a puppy that comes from a top AKC breeder. It turns out, obtaining an akc number is the easiest scam you can possibly pull off so it's basically useless. Again, I was under the impression that I was purchasing a puppy from a licensed and reputable source who brokers dogs from high-quality and ethical breeders. I was saddened and disturbed to learn that I was defrauded by Karen when she sold me a puppy that came from a puppy mill. This has been an extremely traumatizing and stressful experience and because we paid thousands of dollars for what we thought was a dog purchased from someone who claims on their website that all dogs are "All HOME raised......... NO puppy mills EVER!!!!" While she refunded the money that we paid for the puppy, she refuses to reimburse me for the medical expenses that were a direct result of being scammed by Karen. She actually said we should have put him down and not spent the money to save his life. All I am requested was to be made whole. We do not know what longterm health issues our dog will have and judging by other reviews, we have every reason to worry but we'll deal with them if/when they arise. I will be taking her to court and will have a judge decide. I DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ANY OTHER FAMILIES. WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER DUE TO KAREN AND HER LIES. I purchased a puppy from Karen in 2016. While I love my puppy and she has been healthy, I was not pleased with my experience with Karen. She was in a different location at the time and her place was filthy. When I asked what breeder the puppy was from, she told me one name and when I got home with the paperwork, it was a different name and from a google search looks to be a puppy mill with violations. The vet said she had more vaccinations than she should have had for being so young. I ended up getting a second French bulldog and went with a breeder in Indiana. It was such a different and great experience. I knew exactly who the parents were, if they had any health issues in the genetics, etc. The breeder had a clean place and really cared for the animals. They have a Facebook group where we can see how all the dogs are doing. I would highly recommend finding a reputable breeder. I'm so lucky my dog from Karen has been healthy so far but I worry about the long term. read more

This review is long overdue. Karen found my husband and me the most perfect puppy this summer. But that is not all she did. We were on our honeymoon traveling the West Coast is our camper van and I fortuitously stumbled upon and connected with Karen on Yelp. She responded to my Yelp message very quickly and further followed up by emailing me using the address I provided in my note. We chatted about my husband's and my situation (re: timing for picking up a pup) and what we were looking for in a puppy. Karen followed up with several pictures of available puppies, all of whom were the cutest little beings. Though each one was incredibly adorable, we knew the first puppy she sent was ours. Karen worked with us to ensure he was available at a time and place that made sense for us all, she connected us with his breeder so I could ask detailed questions and she took care of him in her home for an extended period of time (something she does NOT like to do because she grows quite attached!). Geyser came to us at 10 weeks old and he is perfect. Now at 13 weeks Geyser has developed the most unbelievable personality. He is healthy, happy, well adjusted, totally adorable and so much fun. I can't imagine our Iives without him. Karen is responsible, responsive, a Frenchie whisperer(!!), kind, fair, resourceful, organized and she has the greatest taste in pups. From this point forward, we will source all of our dogs from Karen. Word of advice: Do not hesitate! Karen is amazing and the breeders she works with are top notch. I'm only writing this in hopes that you don't have do deal with the heart break that my family did. I called to reserve an adorable puppy and made plans to look at it the day after it was available. She texted me saying someone else was very pushy and interested, but that I had the priority. My 5 and 7 year old daughters and I went to get everything we needed for our new puppy. The night before I was suppose to see him, she let me know that she was letting the "pushy" man see him first because he was so insistent. I was flabbergasted. Her word means nothing and she tried the old bait-and-switch thing by showing me other Frenchies that I was not interested in.
