My son James just turned 15 years old. We had a nice birthday party for him but he has no friends…read moreso he had no fun. The other kids at school often bully him because he doesn't know how to defend himself. When James told me this, I knew I had to do something. Thankfully, I remembered that we had one of the best MMA dojos in the world right here - Victors MMA!!! I brought James to his first day of MMA 6 weeks ago Saturday. He didn't want me to leave but I had a meeting with my associates so I left him there for his one and a half hour session. When I came back, I was shocked at how happy James was. He was sweating furiously and having fun while fighting his peers. In the car he was so hungry that he ate both of the cereal bars that his mom packed for him! Nice! Since then, James is always so excited to go to MMA every weekend. He has become so much more social and every week I have to pack him more snacks because he's so hungry. Last week, he finally decided that he wanted to enter into a karate tournament using his new skills. We allowed him to go to one on Saturday, and James had a blast. He used so much energy that he fell asleep in the car ride home. That must have been from all of the times that he got slammed down onto the mat. He keeps complaining that his neck is broken, and hasn't gotten off the couch. But I'm sure hes being dramatic, and anyway the hospital is too expensive. But overall, Victors MMa has changed James for the better.

I simply cannot imagine where I would be without the skills, discipline, and confidence that I gained training here. The Whiteleys are amazing instructors, and the dojo community is wonderful. I have continued trained in martial arts into adulthood, and it has been one of the most fulfilling pursuits of my life. Whenever I talk to friends with kids, I always encourage them to try karate because it is entirely responsible for how great I turned out :) Being confident in your ability to defend yourself is such a potent ingredient for self-assuredness later on in life, and the philosophical lessons within the practice are such good lessons for kids: hard work, discipline, steeling your nerves for competition, trust and respect when working with other people... I could go on and on.

This is not a tournament school, but a dojo where the goal is not just learning and refining technique but to "go deep" into the martial arts and integrate the spirit and mental practices into everyday life. The resident sensei is one of the most outstanding teachers of any subject or skill that I have ever encountered. This should be the new "go-to" martial arts school for adults and children in Bernardsville and surrounding communities.
