Wilson Elementary School. If you're looking for an area that offers recreational activities (during school hours), social interaction with friendly neighbors, usable open space that's kid-friendly (e.g. the playground, basketball court, and baseball/softball field), Wilson Park checks off all of these things. The park is maintained well with the occasional graffiti vandalism from high schoolers and sunflower seeds from baseball viewers, which is all inevitable, but it goes to show how well the park patrons and C&C workers care for their community park! I've been told that the public bathrooms are closed by 10 P.M. so good luck finding one during that time...maybe the mall if it's still open? Every time I pass by the park, whether it be driving up the hill back home or walking my dogs, it's ALWAYS crowded, from the pavilion to the baseball field! The baseball field is usually occupied by children baseball leagues, the basketball court is filled with people (good luck finding an open court), the pavilion is taken up by people practicing Capoeira, and there will be kids running around on the playground at night. During baseball season, good luck finding street parking in the day and night. Wilson Park is also one of the C&C-owned parks that participate in the Summer Fun program. It runs from the beginning of June and ends at the end of July. It's VERY popular amongst the families in this neighborhood so if you want to sign-up for this, you're going to have to wake up early and line up to get a spot for your child. They have a limited amount of spots open so first come, first serve.

An interesting side note is that the park's rec. bldg. next to the children's playground equipment area used to be an open pavillion that was one of the coolest places to sit. Petrie Community Park is not overly big, but it has a little of something for everyone (for all ages). Petrie park has several basketball courts, tennis courts, a volleyball court, a jungle gym for the kiddies, and a large field for kids to play soccer, baseball, as well as football. There are also several benches & picnic tables on the park premises, should you wanna eat there, or watch the kiddies. In my recent visits here, I could clearly see that the field could use some water, as the grass was pretty brown & dried up...........but of course summer is just around the corner, so I guess maybe the city is trying to save water? There is also a office pavilion, as well as a restroom at Petrie park, but be careful if you come here at night, as I saw some sketchy element hanging & loitering around the restroom area. There is no private parking lot for this park, but not to fret as there is a lot of street parking within the Kaimuki neighborhood. But now many many years later, there's no more basketball playing yet, and instead it's playground equipment. It was my first time checking out the playground equipment and I was kind of disappointed. The equipment itself was still in working condition but there was a lot of rust on the edges of the equipment. I had to watch my daughter really carefully to see where she was putting her hands when she climbed up the stairs. The ground cover was also peeling off in some areas. Just turn onto Bay Street from Kalanianaole Highway and it's at the end of the street. There's about a dozen or so parking spaces, and over half were available when we arrived. I didn't check the tides before we came, but it was obviously low as the sandbar went out for quite a ways. I'm told even when it's high there's enough sand to enjoy. There were a few other dogs there off-leash so after making sure ours did their business on the grassy area near the parking lot (cleaned up after of course) we cut them loose and they headed out to explore the sandbar. I've never seen 2 more happier dogs. It was also great for us to walk in the cool of the water on the sandbar. There are bathrooms and an outside shower on both the mens and womens side although it seems like everyone was using the one on the men's side of the building since it was closest to the parking lot. One dog owner had his own rubber hose that he slipped over the showerhead so he could rinse off his dog better. Great idea. Kuliouou is definitely the spot to leisurely stroll the sandbar and cool off on a hot afternoon. If you have dogs, let them wet their paws too and burn off some energy. I've come to know about this place ever since I came to this side of Hawaii Kai just for fun. Community parks are the lifeblood of any residential neighborhood and apart in the greater community for anyone and everyone to enjoy the outside. It's a great place to socialize and meet up with friends and family. There is a restroom facility here, as well as an easy way in and out of the area via private car, Uber, and even public transportation! Yes, TheBus comes through the area and has a couple of stops near the park itself. For the most part though, my experience here at Kalama Valley was casual and brisk. I would stay here for maybe 3-4 hours at a time before heading back into town. Most times that I was here, it was sunny and there was virtually no rain at all. I do enjoy the quiet and casual nature of nature and neighborhood park, but it is nice to see people, families with kids, and passerby use the park when I was there on multiple occasions. Kalama Valley neighborhood park is maintained by the good folks at the City and County of Honolulu. The park has a couple of picnic benches to sit and have lunch - or just to hang out. There is also gym equipment for the kids and kids at heart to play with. The overall experience here at Kalama Valley neighborhood park was refreshing, awesome and therapeutic for the soul. The area is sort of far away from anywhere you could imagine, but it is a place where you can just be yourself and do whatever you want within reason. Nothing illegal here. For myself though, I ended up basically people watching, surf the web a little bit, and started a bunch of reviews on my Notes app on iOS. I tend to be one of those people who like to multitask while here at the park, so in the end I'd like to draft reviews before finishing them up at a later time before posting them on Yelp. Sometimes during my visit us here in Kalama Valley regional Park, it would rain but that did not bother me - most of the time though, It just was windy or hot and sunny. It is Hawaii though. It might be better to bring some sunscreen with you or put it on before you come here. It was nice actually to just be out here in the elements. Much like being at the beach but less crowded and without the ocean. I just like the quiet Piece that comes with the neighborhood park at off peak hours during the weekend. You might want to pack a lunch to bring or have eaten prior to coming here. The restrooms are somewhat adequate, but equally disgusting and definitely ideal. You would want to before you come here. Is not really satisfactory, in my mind but it is what it is. Kalama valley regional park is located in the quiet residential neighborhood of Hawaii Kai, tucked away in Kalama valley. It's zip code is 96825. Since it is a regional community park, there is no admission fee required for coming here and the parking is wherever you can find it. The park itself is somewhat large and can be considered to be someone's backyard, if you wanted it to be. I did enjoy myself here people watching while drafting reviews for yelp. It beats sitting at a public library, although the air conditioning there can be a hit or miss sometimes. For you people who are like me, public transportation is available to get to and from the park / area. Take route 23 from the bus stop opposite Kahala mall on Kīlauea Avenue. The ride takes about 20-30 minutes on the bus, but it can be a soothing one. Kalama valley regional park is one of those open spaces that you can just spend an entire day to enjoy life and the outdoors. While it isn't trails or hiking, it's a place to meet people and to enjoy life as it was meant to be. Come on over. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! A+

It was established in 1991 and has been maintained by the Imperial Tower Association Of Apartment Owners (AOAO) to the City standards. The AOAO has been doing a good job at maintaining the property considering the number of park users has decreased significantly over the years. During a neighborhood (Ala Moana - Kaka'ako) board meeting in 2016, it was proposed that this park be converted to a dog park since many of the surrounding residential developments provide limited open space for dogs and other pets and there is no public-dedicated area for dogs in the Ala Moana/Kaka'ako and Makiki neighborhoods. If it had been approved, the City and County of Honolulu and HCDA would have had to provide planning, design and funding to convert the space. However, many residents of Imperial Plaza protested the "off-leash" Dog Park with their validated census of people who use the park. Also, the Hawai'i Community Development Authority (HCDA) opposed the use of chain-link fence at this site. Unfortunately, for pet-owners, the proposal was NOT adopted. Residents and workers in the Kaka'ako area can continue to use this park to sit on benches under the shade of the tall trees and enjoy the cool breezes that generally blow through. We have the Imperial Tower AOAO to thank for tirelessly maintaining this small green space among the high rises.
