It is open from early morning till late-night - 365 days of the year - and can function as whatever you want it to be ... breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, coffee or tea cafe, wine bar, pub, cocktails. All this at fair prices with friendly efficient staff. Of course this is a tribute establishment to the late, great Austrian rock star - Falco. Memorabilia and photos fill the walls and niches here - kinda like a Hard Rock Café devoted to one performer. There's a lot to look at so it's good to go at least one time outside of popular dining/drinking hours. I stopped in recently for their very tasty Zander filet with green salad and roasted potatoes. The Zander fish was superbly cooked and seasoned. A local Ottakringer Märzen beer was a perfect accompanier to the fish meal. Falco's is not actually immediately visible when you're on the Schwarzenbergplatz but once you find it and try it out, I'm gonna guess, like me, you'll prob return. Remember it's open early morning to late night every day of the year!

The good: the owners seem to have real passion for Falco's legacy and if you are a fan of his,…read moretake my advice with a grain of salt. There is lots of unique artifacts of Falco and his music can be heard even on the downstairs restrooms. The place is clean and the location is at a prime spot of Vienna. Beautiful surroundings and the price of the dishes is very reasonable given the location and how busy it gets. Both a crowd of theater goers and tourists frequented the place when I was there on a December evening. The selection of food items is good. You can find a balanced cross section of Austrian dishes, even breakfast, and some dessert items. Now the not so good, and the main reason for me to go to a place for dinner: the food. It's mainly uninspired and more suited to a highway rest stop than to an inner city dinner place. Let me elaborate: a Gordon Bleu that is not juicy inside and that has not a crispy breading is just sad and disappointing. Tichy's ice cream dumplings which are delicious sitting on a thick layer of cheap jam is similarly disappointing. I am wiring this to hopefully inspire the owners, who undoubtedly love their restaurant, and can rightly be proud of running it, to level up their cuisine. If they do, then this could be a genuine gem of Vienna - with or without Falco.

The inside space looks quite charming but it was too nice to dine in. The one waiter did a decent job keeping up with the growing lunch time crowd. We ordered drinks - a radler and a glass of Austrian wine (both were good). I figured that I better order the Weiner schnitzel since we were in Vienna after all. My wife got a type of goulash complete with a fried egg on top. Both were very good but the schnitzel was a bit dry - I usually like my schnitzels with a sauce. Did I mention it was huge! One nice touch was that instead of bread they served warm soft pretzels. Very tasty. Prices were OK.

Extra points to the server who carried a full tray in each hand. But those points get taken away because he then had to put both trays down on the table to serve... This one is about a 10 - 15 minute walk from Ottakring U-Bahn station so it's an easy journey from the centre of Vienna. Make sure you have a map though - it's not far from the station, but it's not the easiest of places to find. This was a throughly authentic Viennese experience - good food and great wine, served in a small courtyard which was absolutely packed out with locals. Service was OK if a little slow at times. Definitely worth a trip out of the centre, but I'm guessing there are better Heurigers elsewhere.
