Honestly the best value and treatment in Marin! Super reasonable and deep tissue work... really! After spending over 200 + tip for a so called deep tissue hour massage at so many places in Mill Valley that just didnt reach the surface of my shoulder and hip issues, I tried Kanya Thai Massage for 2 hours at the same price and my mobility and pain has improved immensely. I go every week and I bring my mother once a week as well. I cannot say enough. If you genuinely have a chronic issue (in my case an accident that created havoc on my body), you will be hard pressed to find a more healing place. They are all amazing here. Solid massage! Keep in mind, Thai massage isn't necessarily a pleasurable experience. Your masseuse will walk on you, kneel on you, dig her elbows into you, stretch your limbs, etc. It's more like a Yoga experience, but the therapist is doing all the work. Making an appointment here is a bit of an adventure. I called this AM for an afternoon appointment, and there was def a language barrier with the person answering the phone. I arrived for my 2pm appointment, and had to sit in their waiting area for 10 minutes until finally someone arrived to welcome me. So if you decide to get a massage here, set low expectations for hospitality. When my massage therapist finally arrived (10 minutes later), she guided to me a room and asked me to disrobe and suit up in a loose-fitting bathing suit and lie down on a ground mattress. One small complaint: everything was going well until my masseuse abandoned me 5 minutes into the massage to say goodbye/collect money from the previous client. Not exactly the best way to start a relaxing massage... but clearly they were understaffed. All that being said, when my masseuse returned, she gave me an incredible full-body massage. She really worked every angle/sort spot of my achin' body. She took no mercy when it came to my tight muscles. By the end of the massage, I truly felt like a new man. And for just $65 + tip for an hour, this was truly money well-spent. I came in here today with a bum lower back, and I walked away feeling like a human being again. I will def be back! read more

I pass by this place so many times and always forgetting to call and make an appt. Today I stopped in and was fortunate that they had a 30 min drop in available. Now, I am an AVID massage lover and experience many therapists just to find the good ones - and this is one of the few good ones! I had this ache in my lower back from kickboxing that has lasted over a month. It didn't help when I tried my (lack of) flexibility in yoga just yesterday. My 30 min drop in appt turned into a 90 min stretch flex that made me feel like I can put gumby to shame. This was an AMAZING experience, and I don't think I can go back to a regular massage anymore. So I expected this painful yet exhilarating experience based on prior reviews. I ended up feeling a little bad because when the poor guy got to my shoulders, I could figure out enough of what he was saying to himself ("DAMN! girl got some rocks in her shoulders that even I can't break!). We had to start laughing at that point because I told him he could push as hard as he wanted. I really hope he was just backing off out of fear he was going to snap my bones, because he was pushing and pushing at my shoulders and he finally had to give up after giving me an extra five minutes of attempting to break all the knots up there. I would definitely do Thai massage again, and go to this place. They were so nice, accommodating, and it was a great first introduction to Thai massage. Save a few areas where he definitely hit some pain points, it was less painful and deep than some of the deep tissue massages I've had. So sadly, a star off for that. I really was hoping to get some of that brutal stuff others were talking about. And the window was open, and on the street level, you're trying to just lay there and then suddenly from the outside you're hearing a debate on doggie clothing as people walk by. Sigh. I love this place. This is the real deal, all the therapists studied at Wat-Pho and they know what they are doing. I usually get an hour and a half as the price, at 90, is very reasonable...unless of course you are used to Thailand prices:-) They have an intro deal as well, 50 for an hour. I see a woman who calls herself "La" and she is amazing!!! I am a massage therapist myself and get extremely tight and sore from doing lots of sessions...La knows how to really open everything back up. Getting a massage here is the real deal. Do not go here if you expect a luxurious spa experience - you're coming here to have deep Thai tissue work done that will leave your body feeling much more in alignment. I have scoliosis which leaves me in constant pain, and coming to Thai Traditional Massage is my only saving grace. I like to book with Ya the owner because she has worked on me so many times and she knows exactly where to focus without me having to explain. She intuitively hones in immediately on areas where I have pain. My muscles are so much more relaxed when I leave. Again, don't expect luxurious surroundings, and cucumber water here! June 2015 - This Mill Valley location is under new ownership. I believe it was the new owner who told me that the School of Traditional Medical Thai Massage does not teach here any more. So I believe the two locations are now separate entities. If you are looking for certain therapists from the website (thai-massage.com), call and ask for them by name. Maybe try the Steiner Street location if they are not here. The staff here is very nice and friendly, the place was very clean. Let me preface my review with a little info. about this place: This is not a relaxing day spa massage place. The name should have tipped you off to that. The interior is plain, there is no music or egyptian cotton bath robes. Instead, you get the massage fully clothed, usually on the floor, and sometimes with another client in the room, whom will be separated by a thin curtain. That being said, if you have serious back pain issues like I do, and need a "medical-grade' massage. This place is for you. Oh, and don't plan on working out afterwards because you will be sore, but in a good way Pros - The women here, although usually petite and unimposing, are ridiculously strong, qualified masseuses. My first masseuse was about 85 lbs. with tiny hands, but she gave a deeper, more firm massage than any I've ever gotten, even from men (I used to only go to male masseuses because I like really deep massages). Also, this place is VERY reasonably price, basically a dollar a minute. So if you're short on cash or time, a 30 minute massage for $30 is great. Cons - I don't really have any qualms with this place. In fact my masseuse today took a phone call while I was getting the massage (apologizing profusely all the while, saying she had to take the call), and I could care less. She was that good. Also, FYI they are not shy about getting up close to get the job done. I am not trying to slyly indicate this is a "happy ending" massage parlor, but don't be surprised if the masseuse ends up anchoring her foot adjacent to your groin to facilitate a hip-stretch. A great place for problematic backs. When ever I have any back issues I go to them. This type of massage is not for people who expect a soft tender relaxing massage. Thai massage is as one person stated "brutally amazing". I wish I could of described it different, but those two words describe it to a tee. Eventually I took time out of my busy schedule to drive there on my birthday and the woman acted as though she couldn't be bothered, said "we are busy" and rolled her eyes when I told her I had called over and over. I like a very deep massage and this is the place. They literally dig so deep into your muscles, it takes your breathe away, but I love it. It is not for the faint of heart, but I am sure they will adjust to all levels. They basically start with your legs and dig deep into every muscle. I finally brought my guy here for a massage as I've been before & love this place. They were extra amazing. He really felt the benefits of it as I always have. The best part is when Om was working on my, my arm was falling asleep which it often does when I'm lying on my back, so she dug into my shoulder and now the usual numbness I get is gone.
