On 09/29/23, I had an appointment with Dr. Kanter for the removal of my four wisdom teeth. I am, suffice it to say, disappointed with the outcome, and was made to feel objectified while under his care. While I understand that medical procedures can sometimes be unpredictable, my experience left me with several concerns. During my appointment, Dr. Kanter, allegedly, encountered difficulty in finding a vein for the administration of anesthesia. He poked me several times in each arm, 4-5 in total, without success. I have a fear of needles, and was very lightheaded, near fainting, after these attempts. Dr. Kanter then asked if he could remove my wisdom teeth using only local anesthetic. I said yes, and received 4 painful novocaine shots to my lower jaw only. When he began, I could feel what he was doing. I made noise, and was visibly crying, but couldn't speak due to the numbing of my lower jaw. Due to the pain and trauma of the experience, Dr. Kanter only removed one of my wisdom teeth during the appointment. Throughout the appointment, Dr. Kanter and his assistants commented not only on my weight, but also on the scarring I have on my arms. They spoke about me as if I were not sitting right in front of them, and I could not say anything, as my mouth was numb. Afterwards, I was prescribed a day's worth of painkillers. The numbing began to wear off very quickly, and I was in extreme pain. Two hours later, my pharmacy had yet to receive the prescription. My mother called, and Dr. Kanter's office informed her that they were not at fault, and nothing could be done. Shortly after she called, the order arrived at my pharmacy, which I found to be somewhat suspect. I was hoping for a smoother experience, considering the nature of the procedure and the discomfort associated with wisdom teeth. Communication during the appointment was abysmal, and I wasn't prepared for the change in plans. I believe that it's important for medical professionals to be well-prepared for a range of scenarios, and while I understand that complications can arise, I was left with trauma from this experience. I strongly encourage others to exercise caution with Dr. Kanter and make their own judgments. read more

This story was relayed to me from my girlfriend, who is too polite to write a review: She and her brother -- 4 year age gap -- both had their wisdom teeth removed here, and both times were BOTCHED. She had to consult another dentist for the pain and they found at least a 1/4 OF the TOOTH STILL LEFT INSIDE. This occurred for her brother as well! During the procedure, "Doctor" Kanter hacked off a piece of her gum, and rather than apologize; said "oh, there it goes." She was in such pain that she politely requested a 5 minute break, to which he replied either that there would be no breaks and either we stop now and you come back or we keep going. I put Doctor in quotations because I've never heard of someone with such disdain for the comfort of their patient. If nothing changed, between the 4 years of these 2 patients -- my guess is that he either lacks the ability to improve or the willingness to do so. There are probably plenty of other ortho's that you could find. Here's hoping this experience does not occur for anyone else, but judging from the other reviews that might be too much to ask for. read more

I am truly surprised at the horrible reviews on here. I got my wisdom teeth out here today and had a great experience. First of all, they were able to get me in for a consultation (roughly two weeks ago) quickly. Obviously, my wisdom tooth removal was scheduled not far out either, which is nice as I have time off from work right now. The staff was kind and efficient. I was super nervous about being put under but it happened so naturally and quickly that I find myself wondering was I even put under all the way? Haha. Procedure was quick and of course because I was put under, felt super quick to me. A sweet Assistant helped me walk to a waiting room so I could come out of the anesthesia more and they brought my mom back there too to wait with me. Overall it was an easy experience and I'm grateful for that because I was nervous ahead of time, as I didn't know what to expect. They sent me home with some extra gauze and an additional post surgery care sheet. Overall, kind and efficient place and again, after my experience today, I'm surprised to read multiple horror stories on here. Be open minded to what you see online because I don't know how I could have had such a great experience with the same doctor others claimed to have all these messy things happen with. ‍ I will try to update this if I remember when I am more recovered to confirm no negative after effects while recovering. read more

I went in for a tooth extraction. Dr. Hebert Kanter ended up fracturing my jaw. I suggest staying away from him. Not only did he fracture my jaw when he wired me shut, he wired me shut wrong. I ended up having to go to another doctor to fix my jaw. It is an absolute disaster. I now have permanent dislocated disc's in my jaw from his negligence. read more

I had all wisdom teeth removed and Dr Kanter was great. I did plan on sleeping through the procedure but that didn't happen. I was so nervous but he made sure to ease me and tell me what I would feel during the local anesthetic. He was honest and told me which one would be the hardest to pull, but he did his best to be quick and not hurt me. He did also check up on me that night by calling. On the Positive side, he got the job done....2 surgical extractions. But recovery was prolonged due to the Rough Treatment of the procedure. Drilling was far more violent than I had thought. Very tight on Pain Meds. Only received #12. So , inadequate. Office staff is ghastly and rude. Art pieces on wall excellent. So, drop by for that and try and make your escape to someone who cares about his Practice, Staff and his Patients. Unacceptable. There must be many that are more Professional Choices. read more

I went in for a consult after a few years of my regular dentist telling me I needed to have my wisdom teeth removed. They did charge consult and X-ray up front and will then file with insurance (my dentist does this as well for anything above a standard cleaning), so I'm hoping for a reimbursement. I asked him what he would do if they were his teeth and he told me he would not proceed with the surgery given potential risks since I am past the normal age to have them removed. Had a horrible experience getting my wisdom teeth taken out here. I had some anxiety about having the procedure done and told them I would like to not only be asleep for the procedure, I don't want to remember anything about the day it happened. I woke up in the middle and tried to stop them saying that I was awake. They tried to hold me down while they finished everything. I spent the next week in horrible pain stuck on my couch, then went back for a follow up. I asked the doctor for a note so I could stay home from work. I was still in incredible pain and would have spent most of the work day talking on the phone. That was a no go with the state I was in. absolutely disgusting. First of all I was swollen after my wisdom tooth removal for 2 weeks, and could eat solid foods until at least a month. Another problem is after I had my teeth taken out I started having major jaw pain. It would click and lock. Actually its been locked since April (its now June) and this restricts my eating because I can't open It all the way. Another problem I faced was when I woke up in the middle of the surgery and felt the pain. It was absolutely terrible. The wait was like 2 hours just to get my mouth fucked up by a bad surgeon. I should have left then. I hope someone uses this as a warning because this was a TERRIBLE experience. even I went to my orthodontist 3 months after and he looked in my mouth and said "who messed up your mouth this bad?". I found this dentist and office when I had a dental emergency and they saw me for the first time that day. It was Good Friday during the Covid Stay-at-Home Crisis, so and I was sure I was going to have to wait for days. However I was referred to this office and got in in two hours. I had a dentist I have gone to for 6 years but I have been increasingly dissatisfied, so I found a new dentist in an unexpected way! Everyone was kind and worked great to fix my situation. They are highly recommended by me, and nothing could have been better. I am not sure what my Dentist's name was but she was s pretty little lady with small hands and a big heart. Went in for a consultation and had a horrible experience the second I walked in. I got referred from my regular dentist to come here. When I made an appt, the front desk lady told me it would cost me to get a consult after I had told her I have dental insurance. I called my insurance company and they told me the receptionist gave me the incorrect information. We squared everything away and made an appt. I showed up and got called in by one of the hygienists, Maria. She said my name incorrectly and I corrected her in a nice manner. She responded and said "whatever your name is, i don't care." Took my Mom here on emergency as she had pain after seeing another oral surgeon (her regular oral surgeon was out on vacation). Dr Kanter did not notice the infection and did nothing to help! I came to Dr. Kanter for a wisdom tooth removal consult. He was upfront about the risks involved in removing the teeth due to my age and the proximity of the teeth to the nerves. Originally we were going to remove all 4, but I was concerned about the risks, so I called him back. Dr. Kanter called me within an hour (impressed!) and said that only one was really necessary and that the other 3 were more for preventative reasons, and that if I was concerned we could just remove the one. I was impressed that he listens to his patients. A lot of medical professionals don't like to be checked on their authority. The procedure itself went fine. It took about 15 minutes, local anesthesia, I didn't feel a thing. It wore off in 4 hours just as Dr. Kanter said it would, without any numbness. I got a call from Dr. Kanter personally a few hours later to see how I was recovering. I seem to be recovering very well. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I call in to make appointment. A very rude old lady who barely speaks English picks up the phone. First tells me there are no appointments at all, as soon as I say "Do you want me to go somewhere else?" she immediately finds appointment. She asks me for X-ray, when I say I do not have it, she asks why? She asks me if I have insurance, I say yes. She says that while they do work with delta dental, they require that I pay them IN CASH in full and then get my insurance to reimburse me. I do not know what kind of office Dr. Kanter runs, but this was enough for me to turn away and look for another oral surgeon. read more

I could not be more impressed than I was with Dr. Kanter! I've been to another oral surgeon in the past for tooth extraction, but I wish I knew about Dr. Kanter back then. He answered all of my questions, and my tooth extraction was barely even a 1 on a 1-10 scale! I've had hangnails that have hurt more. Dr. Kanter was a recommended by a friend when I was in a water skiing accident that fractured my bottom two teeth. It was sort of an emergency situation and I'd never been to an oral surgeon. Dr. Kanter took great care of wiring up my bottom teeth so the fractured teeth could re-mineralize. He did a fantastic job and the wires have been removed. They came out great. Not a fun thing to go through, but the office took care of me and was diligent about scheduling and taking care of me. The staff provides a warm welcome and make you feel at home. One of the nurses/assistants was a bit pushy when assisting with putting the wires in; she was pushing my head and jaw around and I couldn't really say anything with the wire in my mouth... Also, I waited for quite a long time during a couple of visits (total of 5) to see the doctor (30-45 minutes). Overall, a good experience. I hesitate to ever disparage a provider, but my experience was so horrific, I feel compelled to alert others before they make the same mistake. Office staff is rude and unprofessional. Chatting and eating while seemingly annoyed to interact with patients. A certain staff member was quite demeaning to several elderly patients and offered no assistance or support when they were struggling to complete paperwork. The doctor has zero compassion or bedside manner. He becomes agitated with questions and is snarky in his response. Frankly, he scared my daughter and I'm sorry I subjected her to the experience. 3 staff members swarmed the room to assist with her anesthesia. She was upset and crying. There was no explanation of what was about to happen and no attempt to console her. The doctor was irritated with my questions. The procedure was rushed. The office cancelled her follow up the night before at 6:30 pm. The lack of professionalism, compassion and level of apathy is overwhelming in this office. Not even a follow up call to see how my daughter was healing after surgery. We also waited over an hour for follow up and finally had to leave without being see. The office could have cared less. Additionally, they charge for a consult (I've discovered most oral surgeons offer a complimentary consult) and will demand payment at the time of service. At least wait to see what insurance will cover before gauging the patient. I wouldn't recommend this office to my worst enemy! read more

I would not recommend Dr. Kanter to anyone after what happened to me. I went to him to have a fracture tooth removed he almost caused a medical emergency when my right leg numbed up and after he injected me with something. Furthermore, he prescribed pain medication that has major interactions when taken with my Epilepsy drug. Unfortunately my dentist and I have come to the conclusion that it is better to end my treatment with this doctor and resume treatment with my regular dentist or see another Oral Surgeon. I am no longer comfortable continuing my treatment with Dr. Kanter. read more

My dentist explained that I needed an infected tooth removed and suggested I find a surgeon to do the work. The first guy I went to see told me that I would be foolish to have this procedure done without being put under, the sounds and the jerking would be very uncomfortable. He handed me an estimate of $900 and some change. When I began inquiring about ways to decrease the cost it was as if he didn't care whether it was affordable or not. He was also telling me about his worldly trips he has been on. I called a number of other surgeons to hear the same story, until I tried Dr. Kanter. The lovely receptionist informed me that using local anesthesia is not a problem at all and the cost to me after insurance would be around $95.00. The extraction of the tooth was a piece of cake, it took Dr. Kanter under 5 minutes to remove the tooth. There was nothing at all stressful, painfull or traumatic about the experience. Dr. Kanter seems to be running a very honest, efficient practice without greed. This guy is the best! read more

I had 2 molars extracted this morning. Arriving at the office, the receptionist was very professional. When I got in the chair I got super nervous. Dr Kanter came in and spoke to me very matter of fact about what needed to be done after reviewing the xray. He explained what he was doing and why. Topical numbing then novacaine. I had asked for something that could reduce my anxiety. I was getting more and more nervous. I got nitrous oxide in addition to the novacaine. He quickly pulled first and then second and done!!! I really liked that he openly discussed not overly prescribing unnecessary pain meds. I believe that is very important to reduce opioid overuse. I got a prescription for nominal number of meds and I did use them through the afternoon. I think ibuprofen will do it from now. What was amazing was he called me about 9:45 this evening to check on how things were going!!!! I am 63 and NEVER in my life got a call like that from any doctor themselves. Very commendable. He is a direct, no nonsense surgeon. He doesn't try to be chummy or fake friendly. His painless extraction, aftercare and concerns about opioid use make me highly recommend him. I took my daughter to have all 4 wisdom teeth extracted sometime in July 2014. Dr. Kanter explained everything to my wife during the consultation visit and he took the time to explain things again to me when I took her in for the surgery. I thought he was very efficient and professional. After the surgery, he stopped by the recovery room to see how things were doing for my daughter. That night, around 9:00pm, he called to check on my daughter and answer any questions we had regarding the prescriptions, pain, or anything else. The surgery went so well that my daughter was up and running around the next day. In addition, the staff was very kind and helpful. A great experience all around. I waited over an hour for my first appointment with dr kanter and I don't mind waiting but his office staff didn't even communicate that he was running behind and would be with us as soon as possible. Their customer service was awful. Then I had my wisdom teeth extracted and dr kanter didn't make sure I was under general sedation like I had asked and my local anesthesia had worn off when he stuck the drill in my mouth to remove a piece of tooth he missed. It was like a horror movie and so painful. After the procedure I was sent home with one days worth of pain meds and no explanation about what to expect in terms of gum flaps, risk of infection, pain, and swelling. This has been my worst experience with a doctor ever. I do not recommend him to anyone. read more

This is not about Dr. Kanter, but it is about a service member in the office. I have contacted a service person this morning about the removal of our daughter's wisdom teeth. This service person was so rude and yelling at me because I was asking questions to clarify the insurance payment procedure. I think it is the job of the service person to provide the information twice or even three times if a potential customer wants to make sure to understand the procedure. Again, this is not about the service provided br Dr. Kanter, but this bad experience probably reflects the attitude of this office. The customers have choices. Unless she is a relative of Dr. Kanter, why does an office want to have as service person like this person?. This contact person practically stole the money (that we would be paying) from Dr. Kanter's account, as there are so many others (competitors) that we can (and will) go to. I also need to share this experience with my general dentist to be considered for the future recommendation. read more
