The Yellowfin tuna we had was swimming just a few hours prior. So good!!! They use locally sourced and only the highest quality and freshest ingredients. The staff is super friendly and fun - we spent 2 afternoons there and they were awesome! My two teen-aged daughters and my wife and I really enjoyed it. It's a good size place with beautiful inside and outside areas - good for families and the party crowd. I hope we'll be able to come back one day soon!!!

We waited by the Bar near the entrance for 25 minutes while all three waiters ignored us, made eye contact, checked their phone and took pics . Another Paton at the bar walked over to us and said they her grandchildren were sitting at a table which was empty except for a few sweatshirts so she removed them and said we could have the table, which was a very nice gesture that we appreciated. We continued to wait for another 10 minutes or so until we had enough with being ignored we left and went to another place and were seated and not ignored, a great meal by the way. My Brother in law was with me along with my son and my nephew. I had seen this place recommended by "The Boredom Report " ( JT my apologies but your guy here is out of line) many times and was excited to try this place as I always am when in Baja. Unfortunately, this place dropped the ball. My Brother in law left a review on yelp approximately 20 minutes or so after our visit and was sent a rather rude and racist message by someone named "Noel' stating that Mexico was in the World Cup and that they were playing in Mexico along with that we were I can't remember if it was Dumb or Dirty Americans so I'm going to go with Dumb for this one, "Dumb Americans" that need to educate ourselves on the Mexican culture and such. Well I'll say this, I too have been in Baja for over 40 years, Noel and never have I had any establishments in Baja ever ignore any customers until last night. If myself and my family didn't love, respect Mexico or its people and culture we would never go south of the border and be ignorant to anything having to with Mexico. But, since you are obviously more focused on Football instead of your business I would imagine that you might not last long with that mindset. Also Noel, please feel free to explain to me or anyone for that matter why you choose to run an American style Microbrewery and Sushi Restaurant and not a traditional restaurant in Baja? Could it be you're were attempting to attract a certain Dirty and or Dumb Americans? Also, please explain me and all that read this how to educate myself on "Mexican Culture'' when you're attempting to mimic two different cultures and yet have no idea on anything related to customer service. Please continue to Just throw out something racial and derogatory to cover up for you and your staffs shortcomings because racism has become a form of needing attention and not truly the issue at hand these days. Perhaps next time any "Dumb Americans" walk in to your place why don't you just refuse service, oh wait you do that by ignoring them and giving a racist rant on culture and education. instead of actually dealing with your staff/business issues. Now I've made some mistakes before with reviews and I generally give a place a few chances to rectify things as I know running a restaurant/business isn't easy and there are things that are out of people's control so I will update things when I return. As I believe this is the only true way of giving a honest and legitimate review. Perhaps next time you post a response you should also remember that there is an e-mail that is sent with your same response to the person that posted the review.Simply changing your response online doesn't change the initial email, and saying "you were busy" isn't an accurate description in this instance. Nice try. TO NOEL I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE THIS PLACE AS LING AS I LIVE! I WILL MAKE IT MY MISSION TO TELL EVERYONE I KNOW THAT VISITS BAJA TO NEVER GIVE YOU ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU TREATED US. SIGNED: "THE DIRTY AMERICANS'

The salad dressing was pretty disgusting. I'm not sure if it was "bad" or something but it had a very rancid taste and smell. I even had my sister and mom try it and they said something was off. The salad was actually the whole reason I tried the place so I was a little disappointed. I wish I could have tried the great salad I read so many news about but I will probably not take a chance again. Will be back for the sushi though. Just maybe don't get their salad.

The food was excellent, but unfortunately the service was very disappointing…read more We visited on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was not busy at all. There appeared to be four servers on the floor, yet most of the time they were standing around while only one seemed to be actively attending tables. After being seated, we waited approximately 10 minutes before anyone offered us water. Fortunately, we received menus right away, which allowed us to place our food order at the same time our server finally came to take our drink order. Throughout the meal, our server was largely absent. To make matters worse, the main dish I specifically came to order was forgotten. When I reminded our server, she assured me it would be out shortly. Fifteen minutes later, after my wife and I had already finished our roll, I asked to cancel the missing dish. Once again, I was told it was almost ready. The item I ordered should not have taken nearly an hour to prepare, and it became clear that the order had been forgotten entirely. What made the experience even more frustrating was that the restaurant remained slow the entire evening, with several servers standing around and no obvious reason for the long waits for drinks and service. The food itself was great, but the poor service significantly detracted from the overall experience. Very disappointing.

Akari Sushi is an absolute gem tucked away in a quiet pocket of La Jolla. As longtime fans of SoCal…read moresushi (we've spent years eating our way through the Normal Heights menu ), we don't say this lightly: this place hits. The fish is incredibly fresh, high quality, and thoughtfully prepared -- and Chef Goody's menu absolutely slaps. I'd love to give specific recommendations, but truly we've been blown away by everything on the menu. You can't go wrong. Definitely peep at their daily specials list, too. Service is fantastic and friendly. The chefs are happy to chat, and always make excellent recommendations if you're unsure what to order. It feels welcoming without losing that elevated, special-occasion energy. Perfect for a date night, but also surprisingly accommodating for kids, which makes it an easy go-to whether you're celebrating or just craving really good sushi. It's one of those spots you almost don't want to tell people about... but you also don't want anyone to miss out. If you want top-tier sushi in La Jolla, this is it.

GOOD SUSHI IN LA JOLLA (4.3 stars)…read more - FOOD: pretty good; very fresh fish - PRICE: fair - SERVICE: excellent - AMBIANCE: quaint sushi restaurant (which I like; nice and quiet and chill) I knew something about the execution was familiar. I didn't know it until after eating there and reading a review that this is the sister location of So Cal Sushi (in Normal Heights) and after comparing the menus it made sense! What stood out to me when I knew nothing about this restaurant was that spicy tuna is in majority of their speciality rolls and after tasting it I had thought 'this seems familiar' - sometimes spicy tuna (in anything) can be overdone, played out, or not really cared for. Same thought when I first ate at the sister restaurant in Normal Heights when they first opened years ago - too much of it. But overall execution of the meal was good. :: ORDER :: MISO SOUP ($3.95) - served with wakame, negi, and tofu. average/typical. KURODAI ($9.25) - they have rotation fish list and saw an offering of Kurodai and had to try it. First of all, my favorite is Nodoguro but they didn't have that and was told closest to that was Kurodai. Honestly, I thought differently - didn't really come close to Nodoguro but Kurodai is also a nice cut of fish. The texture was somewhat firm and the taste was light and clean in flavor with a little subtle ending taste of faint sweetness. The fish was extremely fresh and you can taste it immediately. HIGHLY RECOMMEND CITRUS BLISS ROLL ($21.95) - spicy tuna, krab, and cucumber. Topped with salmon, avocado, spicy mayo, crunchies, and unagi sauce. I loved how they make the rolls - not too much rice nor dense packing, very tender and soft roll, easy to consume and eat more without feeling full, and the perfect amount of cut rolls per serving. You can taste the spicy, little bit of creamy, and a good amount of citrus... and if you dunk the roll in soy sauce you get the salty. It is a good roll if you like spicy and citrus - for me I like citrus more than spicy. The roll was good I ate everything, BUT I do feel there could be some improvements. I know people love spicy but when it comes to raw fish - that needs to shine in the sushi. yes tuna is basic but overkilling the flavor to make it spicy isn't for everyone (as it's in nearly every speciality roll). I would recommend lowering the spicy in the tuna because it already has spicy mayo included + it allows the customer to control their spicy level. The sriracha takes over the taste and when eating sushi the spicy for me should come from the wasabi (not soaking good quality fish in a sriracha bath). I wish they also offered their rolls with regular tuna instead of spicy tuna. I will def be back! Overall great place. Until the next bite...
