There's a large outdoor seating area and limited seating inside with a few tables seating 4/5 and a long table through the middle of the deli. The staff are attentive and they made insanely good coffees (in addicted to their chai lattes). The menu has something for most tastes- big platters featuring locally sourced meats and cheeses, focaccias, salads and cakes to name a few. Prices are pretty standard, some may think the platters a bit overpriced but they are actually very filling. These guys are very passionate about supporting businesses on the Fleurieu Peninsula and in SA. So many of my favourite producers feature on the menu- say cheese, Four winds chocolate, swell beer, dawn patrol coffee roasters, spice girlz and fine and dandy Teahouse. It's the perfect place to kick back with a coffee, have a long lunch or a sneaky wine (because it's attached to Wirra Wirra, one of the best wineries going around). The German Pantry in Hahndorf is your one stop shop for everything edible, and some not so edible, German style! Not the biggest store on the planet, but it doesn't have to be. The smell of cured meats and metwursts fill your nostrils as you enter the shop and low, when you turn to your left you are greeted by THE WALL OF BEER GLASSES! Rumoured to be the 14th or 15th wonder of the world, there are plenty to choose from, including the trademark 'Boot' and other beer branded glasses in their traditional shapes (like the cool Kwak mini yard glass, even though it is from Belgium). You can also find a large selection of sweets and other random german fare, but lets face it, Beer and Meat is where it begins and ends!

There is evidence that some effort went into the redesign of the deli, but it feels unfinished and has done for many months. The staff, with a few exceptions, seem preoccupied and easily confused. The menu is quite good for a small shop, and I've had a few good meals here but they'll need to improve on consistency to compete with the many tasty and often cheaper options just down the road in Stirling. Another important lesson yet to be learnt by the Crafers Gourmet Deli is that having "Gourmet" in your name does not mean you can charge a dollar more per pastry item (especially when you're selling the same Villi's and Balfours range as everyone else) Good for coffee, not much else. I look forward to seeing this business develop into the excellent deli it could be.

" More than a takeaway Deli"…read more Located across the road from the Crafers Hotel, with a generous serving area, and a tidy relaxing dining area, with a good range of food options, makes the Crafers Gourmet Deli very popular with the locals and cyclists that frequently bike the Hills. Open for breakfast and lunch with an excellent range of freshly prepared options, eg, cheese, tomatoes and olives focaccia with their own pesto, and chicken tandoori wrap, rich and tasty, is only one of many food options. As I sat and enjoyed a relaxing lunch in the dining area, with a latte, (Mahalia boutique coffee roaster, winner of a number of awards, from Robe SA.) I found the service was good, the dining area relaxing and comfortable, with a de stress ambience, which completed my lunch experience.

Now we go there for milk, the paper and a gourmet hot dog or foccacia. The Deli was bought up and re-done by a young family a few years ago. Now it caters not only for passing school kids (the lollies are still there) and local hills residents, but for the recently landed cosmopolitan gentry in the hills. You don't need to fly down the freeway for a good coffee anymore, or even make the short trek to Stirling when you live around the corner from the Gourmet General Store. Regular general store products (milk, bread, toilet roll and other domestic necessities) are supplemented here by the 'gourmet' menu and products on offer. It's a bit schizophrenic as far as setups go, but the prices aren't prohibitive and it works. It seems odd to find a 'gourmet' general store tucked away on semi-rural Longwood Road in the Adelaide Hills. Indeed, it's odd to see the adjective 'gourmet' in front of the phrase general store, but there it is.

This place makes a little sad - it's one of those corner shops that used to do a lot more business…read morethan it does now and that shows. You will be able to get your basics here, like milk and newspapers, and the owners are quite pleasant. But it lacks that jovial air to make me want to keep coming back.
