There is evidence that some effort went into the redesign of the deli, but it feels unfinished and has done for many months. The staff, with a few exceptions, seem preoccupied and easily confused. The menu is quite good for a small shop, and I've had a few good meals here but they'll need to improve on consistency to compete with the many tasty and often cheaper options just down the road in Stirling. Another important lesson yet to be learnt by the Crafers Gourmet Deli is that having "Gourmet" in your name does not mean you can charge a dollar more per pastry item (especially when you're selling the same Villi's and Balfours range as everyone else) Good for coffee, not much else. I look forward to seeing this business develop into the excellent deli it could be.

Open for breakfast and lunch with an excellent range of freshly prepared options, eg, cheese, tomatoes and olives focaccia with their own pesto, and chicken tandoori wrap, rich and tasty, is only one of many food options. As I sat and enjoyed a relaxing lunch in the dining area, with a latte, (Mahalia boutique coffee roaster, winner of a number of awards, from Robe SA.) Rumoured to be the 14th or 15th wonder of the world, there are plenty to choose from, including the trademark 'Boot' and other beer branded glasses in their traditional shapes (like the cool Kwak mini yard glass, even though it is from Belgium). You can also find a large selection of sweets and other random german fare, but lets face it, Beer and Meat is where it begins and ends!

It's worth the hike though, especially for the pizza dough. We've bought the pizza dough a few times from them and each time it's been just the right consistency. Add to that the cheese and meat from the deli and you have a damn fine pizza. Put it in the oven and... wow... just wow... Forget buying pizza, make it yourself. It's half the fun!!

This sort of pleasantry goes a long way and leaves a lasting impression ensuring the return of their customers. The Deli is limited to breakfast and lunch meals, but do both extremely well with a huge variety of dishes to choose from. Their version of the B.L.T in a focaccia is my personal favourite, and the sizing doesn't leave you wanting more. The chicken schnitzel wrap is also a delectable choice. Coffee here is superb, and the fact that they offer large mugs is a bonus - the more the better! In addition to hot beverages, the cafe also makes smoothies on demand with your choice of ingredients. My girlfriend loves their freshly squeezed orange juice and carrot smoothies, and although the combination of the two may be off-putting, it's surprisingly good. The only criticism I can make of this place is that they don't stay open too long passed lunchtime and are closed on weekends, which is a downer if you're hoping to grab a late lunch or a weekend brunch.

These guys are very passionate about supporting businesses on the Fleurieu Peninsula and in SA. So many of my favourite producers feature on the menu- say cheese, Four winds chocolate, swell beer, dawn patrol coffee roasters, spice girlz and fine and dandy Teahouse. A few Italian people I know say it's a bit overpriced compared to the western suburbs, and I can see that it may be for some items, but I think they are not too bad. The layout of the store is typical Italian grocer, with as many items as they can fit and everything grouped logically, which I like. They have flour sections with descriptions of what the particular flours are best for (e.g. pizza/bread/pasta). They have a great range of cheeses and cold meats, fresh pasta, coffee, Italian wines and spirits, biscuits, cakes, sweets, antipasto and canned and jarred tomatoes, passatta and marinated everything. They also sell wholesale to caterers and event organisers and have delivery and a catalogue that can be requested from their website, where they also have recipes and events notices, such as wine tastings. On one end of the store there is also a bakery/pizza bar with barista coffee, authentic Italian pizzas and panini and freshly baked bread and pastries at a good price. It's worth checking out just for the bread. I bought a great large sourdough for about $5. Bellissimo.

Naturally, as a convenience store, you do pay a little more for 'convenience' - but you can dart in, get what you need, and be on your way in nothing flat. There's no minimum orders, and everything's fresh. They also make a great hotdog here, and do a roaring trade to tradies grabbing breakfasts and lunch. Old fashioned service with a smile - well recommended.
