A few Italian people I know say it's a bit overpriced compared to the western suburbs, and I can see that it may be for some items, but I think they are not too bad. The layout of the store is typical Italian grocer, with as many items as they can fit and everything grouped logically, which I like. They have flour sections with descriptions of what the particular flours are best for (e.g. pizza/bread/pasta). They have a great range of cheeses and cold meats, fresh pasta, coffee, Italian wines and spirits, biscuits, cakes, sweets, antipasto and canned and jarred tomatoes, passatta and marinated everything. They also sell wholesale to caterers and event organisers and have delivery and a catalogue that can be requested from their website, where they also have recipes and events notices, such as wine tastings. On one end of the store there is also a bakery/pizza bar with barista coffee, authentic Italian pizzas and panini and freshly baked bread and pastries at a good price. It's worth checking out just for the bread. I bought a great large sourdough for about $5. Bellissimo.

Really enjoyed my first visit to The Italian Place today. Service was quick and efficient, and the…read moreprices of the food and drink was very competitive. They catered well for our large group, bringing orders promptly and not messing any of them up. The decor is very Italian delicatessan slash cafe and is just lovely. There's a huge range of foodstuffs for sale to take home as well as fresh baked breads, salads, pastries, deserts, savouries and more. There's also a fantastic Italian Vespa on display inside. The French vanilla flat white coffee I had was quite possibly the best I've had in a VERY long time, and at $3.40, cheaper than a lot of other places. I also tried the almond tart which was impossible to resist, and I was not disappointed, it was incredibly delicious and not overly sweet, just right. Overall, this is a great place for a coffee and cake stop, or even a coffee stop. And while you're at it, grab some fresh bread or other things to take home! I'll definitely be back.

Is it a bakery? Is it a delicatessen? Well yes but it's also a cafe/pizza bar!…read more Some Sunday nights (check FB for more details: https://www.facebook.com/TheItalianPlace) they host pizza nights and for $25.00 (yes, twenty five dollars) you get to sit among the shelves of pasta, tomato pieces and every type of pickled vegetable and enjoy antipasto (freshly sliced from behind the counter), pizza (all you can eat), dessert and coffee/tea. The all you can eat pizza is an unusual concept because you don't have to finish the pizza to get a new one. We ate a half a seafood pizza before moving on to another and finished half of that and the leftovers were put in a box for us to bring home! You don't really order anything its more of a "get what you are given" scenario which is good for us indecisive people because you don't have to agonise over the menu trying to make a decision. Desserts are baked in house and the snowflake/hazelnut one we had was amazing but again they just bring out whatever dessert they want and you just enjoy. To top is all off the house wine is pretty cheap so a very inexpensive night out!

As much as we all have to head to the supermarket and pick up our stock standards to cook our daily meat and two veg, sometimes we just can't be stuffed.... shopping or cooking! Answer = Sfera's Gourmet. Most know Sfera's as the function centre/restaurant near Tea Tree Plaza. The Gourmet Centre on Lower North East Road has an amazing array of noshables that will probably shorten your life expectancy, but your mouth will be stoked! From pre-packaged pasta wonders to hot and ready to munch stuffed capsicums, lasagne and other options I will hold back from mentioning in case your drool shorts out your keyboard! There is also plenty of Seafood, fresh and frozen in case you do want to cook when you get home...why would you want to cook when it is all done for you? Eh, whatever.

You can pick up a fresh meal ready to reheat for as little as $6, and it's not a skimpy meal like a frozen tv dinner from the supermarket, either. One of my favourite guilty pleasures from here is their crumbed calamari - prepared fresh on the premises, $10 worth of it feeds my family of four, and it's so crisp and light when fried well. The handmade tartare sauce they do finishes it off well, too. Everything is so fresh - I guess that comes from also handling a lot of catering - handling product well must come natural to them by now :)

From my first time there to my most recent visit, the owner of the cafe has consistently come out to greet me and ask me how my day has been. This sort of pleasantry goes a long way and leaves a lasting impression ensuring the return of their customers. It's little things like small talk, wiping down your table and ensuring you have a clean ashtray that make the experience all the more enjoyable. The Deli is limited to breakfast and lunch meals, but do both extremely well with a huge variety of dishes to choose from. Their version of the B.L.T in a focaccia is my personal favourite, and the sizing doesn't leave you wanting more. The chicken schnitzel wrap is also a delectable choice. Coffee here is superb, and the fact that they offer large mugs is a bonus - the more the better! In addition to hot beverages, the cafe also makes smoothies on demand with your choice of ingredients. My girlfriend loves their freshly squeezed orange juice and carrot smoothies, and although the combination of the two may be off-putting, it's surprisingly good. The only criticism I can make of this place is that they don't stay open too long passed lunchtime and are closed on weekends, which is a downer if you're hoping to grab a late lunch or a weekend brunch.

All the staff are passion foodies and will happily chat about different products on offer and let you try before you decide. There are 12 choices filled with all the yummy fillings you see in the display. They are made to order (they're pretty quick) so you can add or change any filling you like. Baguettes are around the $8 to $10 mark. Norwood Fine Foods is in the Norwood Mall next to Coles.

Personally, I prefer to head down to the Central Markets for my small good needs (cheaper, more variety) but this place is a good second for a local option. They also yummy take away foods, like the baguettes that Rani mentioned. My hot tip: the kranskys here are GOOD. Yummy and made on the spot so they're fresh and good quality, though they don't offer a lot of toppings or chili sauce which makes me a little bit sad.
