My father passed away in July of 2009 and since Kane is the place people typically use in Ridgefield, my family opted to go with them. The man we met with to make the arrangements (his name escapes me) was completely flippant and irreverent about the entire thing. I realize that this is something they do on a daily basis but to the family who is burying their loved one, it is a devastating and depressing time. He acted totally casual and treated it like it was no big deal. He broke out a binder of pricing and got right down to the "business" end of things as soon as we got there but the worst thing about the meeting was when he COMPLAINED ABOUT HOW LONG HE HAD TO WAIT FOR THE HOSPITAL TO BRING MY FATHER'S DEAD BODY DOWN TO THE HEARSE. I mean how completely insensitive can you be?
The wake went fine but afterwards, my mother asked them to clip a lock of my father's hair for her and he said he would. The following morning (the morning of the funeral) I noticed that it looked like my father had not been moved. He was lying exactly the same way in the casket. Had they removed a lock of his hair, I would expect that he would appear to have been in a slightly different position. I mentioned it to my mother who was too distraught about the prospect of burying her husband to even think and the subject was passed up. Later, after the reception following the burial, my family searched through the bag of items the funeral home sent back with us (that is where the funeral director claimed to have placed an envelope of my father's hair) and the lock of hair was nowhere to be found. We searched everywhere we could think of and didn't find it. My mom called the funeral director who insisted that he put it in the bag but he said he'd search the funeral home in case it was still there. It was not there. I am absolutely positive that he forgot to clip the hair and then LIED TO US about it. My mother was completely devastated.
If you want a funeral home who cares and is sensitive to the needs of your family and the sad situation you are experiencing then absolutely do not use Kane Funeral Home. They made an already horrible situation even worse for us. read more
