The service was very attentive, my server let me know I could do everything via QR or order with her. I ordered a lamb curry and some roti and just because I wanted to try it I also got 1 piece of the fried chicken. It was all really good, but honestly the chicken was the best part. Excellent flavor, cooked perfectly and just a little spicy. If I ever go back here I will probably go for the fried chicken meal. I had wanted to try one of the sweet roti options for dessert, but by the time I finished the chicken, roti and most of the curry, I had no room left for more.

We recently ordered takeouts and were more than impressed. In fact, we were rather angry that we hadn't been sooner - after all, it's only 5mins down the road. Shame on us! It's hard to choose, but our favourite dish was the Kapitan chicken. It was beautifully cooked in a well-balanced, aromatic sauce and served with light fluffy rice. Our only complaint was that there was enough to sauce to mop up with the buttery roti! Special mention must also be made of the Mee Goreng, which was packed full of flavour and had just the right amount of heat. I added a liberal squeeze of lemon to mine and it was seriously good. For $13, the portion was extremely generous - we had plenty of leftovers for the next day. I am rather looking forward to my next visit. Hopefully we will be dining in because the interior of this place is delightful - full of brightly coloured decorations with plenty of sparkles!

It really feels like you're in Malaysia though I've never been, but at least transported to somewhere different. It's warm and the dim lighting creates an intimate, cosy atmosphere. Great service as well. The Kung-po squid came in a long fish dish with vegetables, dried chilli and sauteed squid. Great for seafood lovers. We got the Langkawi fish special which was nice and fresh with lemon, lemon grass and coriander. Beware of the Hot Babi Pedas, as I thought I had a high tolerance for spicy but this was still Hot with a capital H. Pork slices with vegetables and cooked with cumin, fresh chilli and other spices that make you feel like you're going to breathe fire. Nasi lemak is purple fragrant coconut rice which I adore but if you're more inclined to classic, they have plain steamed rice as well. Great order on the side of the curry as well as their flaky Chanai flatbread. Food is yum, decor is absolutely wonderful. Must see

I popped in to Mama Rich again for an authentic laksa because last week I ordered a laksa in Singapore and got a Tom Yum Soup. I felt robbed! Feeling so much better having sipped and slurped my way through this bowl of laksa goodness. This cafe is a favourite for many familiar with Malay cuisine, even Malaysians. Evident by their attendance and quaffing of the hearty noodle soups. Their baked goods here are seriously good too. Try their afghans...they actually taste like....well, afghans. Of all the laksas I've had in Auckland, this ranks in top three for taste but number one for sheer volume and there's plenty of chicken in it too. For a lunchtime special, two would feel sated sharing a bowl of laksa.

Well however the businesses are joined or not , Mama Rich had the exact same menu as Selera . I had the char kieow ( sorry spelling) and it was the same as Selera , but without the spice and charred flavour that I love so much at Selera . All the dishes looked good and I wish I was more adventurous to try something else . That's not too say I didn't like it ,but personally I feel Selera is better . Mama Rich was clean and quiet for families and a cafe feel , no free tea here . (And when I asked if there was tea like at Selera the server looked at me like I was a crazy person). I like the noise at Selera and the jostling for tables , it feels more authentic. I love Malaysian food and I'll be sure to give Mama Rich another try , but I'm sure I'll be enticed back to Selera before long .

I used to frequent this place a couple of years ago with my boyfriend at the time. Then when when we broke up, I just stopped coming here. Well tonight I realised that was a massive mistake (much like the ex ;P). I highly recommend that everyone comes here. Simple place, no frills , and food and service ok or better. Was a mixture of Cantonese style cuisine and Si Chuan cuisine , but may have changed recently. Seems to get a regular amount of business when we have been there which can usually mean the place is okay. They have French toast done the Cantonese style , which is my favourite so it definitely gets at least 3 stars to begin with that on the menu ( well I did say I liked it no frills at times) and of course the service and food in general is okay or above.

They sell 4 of those mouth watering delights for a mere $4.50 There are many Fried pork bun imitators out there around Auckland's busy Chinatown aka Dominion road. But none of them measures up to this tiny little shop in Mt Albert. The base of the pork buns are fried to a perfect golden brown, with a satisfying crunch when you bite into it. The filling isn't overwhelming in seasoning and provides just enough feedback to let you know that it's made of minced pork. This place has got to be one of my little guilty pleasures. I would actually just drive there sometimes by myself and order up 2 portions of the fried buns and a side of shanghainese wontons. It's not a big shop, they only have seating for around 12 people. So it's not meant for a dinner party or big gathering. And sometimes I do wonder how they manage to keep an A grade. (The last comment is purely related to the unkempt decor in the shop and not meant for the cleanliness of the kitchen area.) One quick note though, the owner insists on payment in cash. My favourite here is the Shanghainese fried bun , 生煎，really delicious and of which I can eat so many until I am near to bursting ( or 吃饱了, as the chinese would put it. ) Another favoured is the pork and green bokchoy wonton , 菜肉大馄饨。 I even know of some Shanghainese living here who reckon the bun is of the same standard if not better than of what you would taste in Shanghai. Well done to this couple for being able to produce the dishes so well that they taste just like or better than back home and at a decent price.
