I can honestly say that apart from 'The Gellie' name( still think of it as Donny's myself!) the place hasn't changed in 30+ years!! It is a full on traditional chippy. You won't find anything new or snazzy on the menu but you will get a tasty meal at a reasonable price. Situated just across from Upritchard Park at the entrance to Bloomfield Estate I recommend it highly. Staff are great, portions are generous and you just can't beat their pastie suppers!

The Gellie, so named as it is the Ulster-Scot word for a ships kitchen. A galley = gellie. There is…read morea translation board placed on the wall behind the counter with all the Ulster-Scots words for the food that can be bought. And that's where the novelty ends. Beyond that, it is a standard, run of the mill chip shop. Not one of these all singing, all dancing affairs with fancy names for their burgers. If you want a chicken burger, you ask for a chicken burger. The location? Well, it sits at the entrance to Bloomfield Estate (which is opposite Bloomfield's shopping centre) and can be easily accessed by passers by. It is, however, prone to swarms of feral children hanging around outside. OK, swarms might be an exaggeration, but only slightly. The food itself, is standard chip shop fayre. A consistent standard and decent sized portions for reasonable prices. If anyone is passing, I do recommend it but generally used by locals.

The amount of Saturday afternoons and weekdays in the summer I spent really couldn't be counted. During this time I had to eat and when I wanted to tread the line between eating healthy and fast food I would generally go for a Subway. I would usually go for a foot long vegemax and it was always well prepared in a quick and efficent manner. The staff are always friendly, which isn't always the case with places like Subway so this place definitely gets a thumbs up. There is a largish food court with seating upstairs so you don't have to eat on the move if you don't want to.

Took the police two hours to show up. I wish I could see the bright red haired man again because I felt so bad for him having to clean up spilt alcohol and cigarette buds. He definitely deserves a pay raise! The food itself is great, and the workers even better, but I don't think that staff should be put on work alone due to situations getting out of hand. To the red headed subway worker, you deserve a pay raise (and my veggie sub tasted delicious)
