My experience with Christie Wical was profoundly negative, I could feel her judging me in the room and some of her comments were completely inappropriate for a mental health professional to say. She clearly does not care about my health and is stubborn in her approach, will only do things by the book and not tackle any case that's tough or requires critical analysis (like somebody with another disability). Definitely going back to my neurologist, a qualified doctor who has my best quality of life in mind and is willing to explore all treatment options, to get a second opinion. Christie is the opposite of open-minded; she was quick to diagnose me with ADHD but outright refused to even consider the majority of medications due to a non-existent drug interaction with my epilepsy med which she had never heard of (she admitted this) and was researching on the spot. She saw the type of med it's classified as and said "oh, we don't do uppers with downers" as if I came in there seeking uppers (I was ironically referred by my neurologist who suspected ADHD). The fact that she is trying to force me into 1 of 3 medications or nothing at all when I know there are safe and effective ways to proceed otherwise is a terrible way to treat a patient. The thing that really gets me is that a quick search tells me the two backup options she offered actually DID have interactions with the med I'm on, so I raised this concern as I was really starting to question her knowledge/decision-making ability; she replied "a potential medication interaction doesn't mean a medication cannot be prescribed, it just means it needs to be considered carefully and monitored closely". That is COMPLETELY contradictory with her original (and still only) proffer, which was effectively "these 3 non-stimulants or can't help you bye". She even seemed to agree that self-medicating with a legal stimulant, caffeine, was my best immediate solution. Some people just don't want to think outside of the box, don't care if somebody else has to suffer because of their negligence, and some practitioners just don't keep up with modern medicine the way doctors do. That was the final straw, I'm done seeking mental health care. If you're gonna diagnose me with something, don't immediately rule out almost every treatment, because that doesn't help knowing there is no backup plan when I react badly to your med (also give yourself time to actually do some research for your patients please). If neurologists ruled out the typical lines of treatment, for example, I would still be having seizures. But since I'm on "downers" (as Christie refers to the med that's keeping my seizures controlled), I'm not allowed to have their "uppers" (yes I know she was referring central nervous system stimulants but the way she said it made it sound like we were talking recreational drugs). I don't appreciate being forced to choose between being physically and mentally functional.
