Carriage room
Diana D.

We stayed here for 3 days during Christmas weekend. Winter is off season here, so we pretty much had the Inn to ourselves for the first day and had another family around for the rest of the days. We stayed at the Carriage House as that was one of the pet friendly rooms. Carriage House is a large suite outside of the main house with 2 Sofa's, a king bed, private bath and a private patio. The room also had a smart TV which was convenient. The property is very beautiful. We loved having breakfast at the Gazebo. It was raining quite a bit when we stayed, hence we couldn't hang around outdoors much. For breakfast, there was a continental spread and Beki (the owner and InnKeeper) offered to cook anything else we would like. She made us some awesome cheese scramble and hash browns. We loved the hash browns so much that we asked her to make it again the next day. The main house at the Inn has a full kitchen, refrigerator, microwave etc. that the guests can use. They also have a living room with books, TV, fireplace to hang around. Wifi worked beautifully the first 2 days but was out for most part the 3rd day. It wasn't too much of an inconvenience for us though. Beki who runs the inn was quite pleasant and was available if we needed anything.

Kaleidoscope Inn epitomizes why we prefer B&B. Gorgeous historic home. Tasty handcrafted breakfast. Great location, close enough to highway providing easy access but far enough to be quiet. Comfortable bed and clean linens. Becki and staff are so hospitable. This is our 2nd stay, 3 nights both times.

Arbor & lawn set up for wedding

My wife and I, along with a couple of other relatives, stayed at the Kaleidoscope Inn over the wedding weekend for one of our children, recently. Being that we were involved with wedding prep activities, we didn't get much of a chance to enjoy the special features of the Inn itself --- we definitely need to visit again simply for that experience. As for the wedding, the venue was awesomely magical! Friends and relatives alike commented on how enchanting the Inn is, as well as the beautiful grounds on which the wedding and reception were held. Beki, the Inn and wedding coordinator, absolutely ROCKS!!! She provided constant help, instruction, and advice during the rehearsal, the day of preparations, and the during the wedding / reception itself. Whether it was directing the staff who were setting up, dead-heading dried flowers from the gardens, or insuring that reception events occurred on time, she was always *everywhere* when needed. A very, very lovely experience.

We had our wedding here and it was a great experience. Beki is an awesome coordinator and helped us with our wedding planning, she kept us on check with the iterinary. Without her it would of been difficult to coordinate. Beki makes really good breakfast too! The overall experience was great and left a lasting impression on us. Beds are comfy, the garden is beautiful, food is delicious, are some of the things that come to mind when I think of this place. And of course the memories that were made on that special day Thank you Beki!

Wedding venue

Great place for a celebration. My bride and groom are out of state and needed a place that offered a turnkey wedding. The caterer was fantastic (Kullman Catering), the cupcakes were awesome! Becky the Kaleidescape owner was fantastic! She made the wedding go do smoothly! And the DJ (Javier), kept the party going! I would highly recommend!

August 1, 2018 My husband and I got married at Kaleidoscope. Let me start by saying I fell in love with this place the first moment I stepped foot there. I have always dreamt of a garden wedding but I didn't actually think I would get that. Beki, was of great help and we planned in in 4 months. She was amazing through the entire wedding planning process and was ensuring our wedding day ran smoothly. The Bed and breakfast was delicious and I'm so glad we chose this place as our wedding venue. Stayed two nights and let me tell you, breakfast was great especially having a few of our wedding party stay there as well. Thank you to Beki and her staff for everything. We definitely appreciate everything you did for us from the moment we booked with you.

Breakfast

I was so lucky this place had one last room available last minute. Beki was so incredibly friendly and super sweet and accommodating. The inn itself is also very cute with a nice large garden, while the room had a very comfortable bed and Netflix on the TV. A continental breakfast was provided as well as the option to have Beki cook something warm. She made some wonderful eggs with cheese for us but I also saw her make pancakes for other guests. Will definitely be sure to stay here next time I plan on coming back to the area!

We had our wedding last weekend at the Kaleidoscope Inn and it was beautiful. My husband and I had toured many venues in L.A., but what I loved about this venue was the flexibility it provided. By flexibility, I mean how we were allowed to bring our own vendors and food, were allowed to drop off all of our wedding supplies the day before and put our juice in the refrigerator (we could have had a rehearsal, but we opted not to), were free to arrange the tables/chairs/drinks table/guestbook table wherever we liked, and were constantly assured we could decorate it as we'd like. This was a breath of fresh air after visiting some other venues that strictly wouldn't allow us to attach any decorations and were very rigid with vendors and decor. They set up the chairs, tables and tablecloths, drinks bar, etc. as we had discussed by the time we arrived at the venue. As far as the venue, it was very spacious and the garden was well-maintained (Beki made sure the gardener came the evening before the wedding). They had plenty of overhead string lighting, which we absolutely loved. Furthermore, my bridal party and I were allowed to dress in the living room of the inn and when the reception started, move our belongings and had a dressing room for us by the reception area for the remaining time. As somebody who wanted an outdoor, garden wedding, I loved how the venue looked and don't feel like it needed decorations to "cover it" (unlike how I felt when I saw some other hall venues). I also loved how there was natural backdrops for photos and there were TWO gazebos, a fountain, greenery, and flowers! The coordinator of the inn, Beki, also provided Day-of-Coordinator duties, which I considered an unexpected bonus. Beki met with us several times leading up to the wedding (even though we planned it all within 3 months!), showed anyone of my wedding party around whenever we asked, and was very flexible with meeting times. Furthermore, she even helped set up the day of and even fished my toss-bouquet out of the trash when we were frantically looking for it during the bouquet toss time! Beki consistently had a positive attitude and was trying to help however she could, even throughout some wedding delays and mishaps. I'm writing such a positive review, without any prompting from anybody from the venue, because after searching the entire LA county for a venue that can accommodate ~150+ guests, was reasonably priced, and allowed outside catering, my husband, myself, and the guests were really impressed with this venue. It felt like a random gem on the Central Coast (in Nipomo, no less!). I wish my wedding was longer so I could have had more time to enjoy the venue and all it offered.

Bummed to leave so soon. My fiancé and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful Victorian home just minutes from regular old city life. The home makes you feel like you transported to another era. There are so many details to look at and the history of this home gives a sense of meaning and pride. I would live here if I could. It's comfortable, romantic, cozy, and overall has such a good feel. Can't wait to stay again! It's rare that a place (usually a hotel), can make me feel like I could return for nostalgia. Our host Beki was the best!

Pros: Great people. Excellent facility. Surprisingly good food…read more Cons: None The twilight of life is often not an easy time. In late April 2018, my wife and I moved from Silicon Valley which we called home for more than 35 years to Nipomo, about 210 miles to the south. My mother relocated from Pennsylvania to San Jose in February 2015 and took up residence in a nice retirement facility (part of the Brookdale group). When we moved, there was little choice for her but to go with us. The Central Coast of California between San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria is a remarkably happy place. The weather is tough to beat. Vineyards cover many of the hills. The Pacific Ocean is never far away. People seem to be content...whether fellow shoppers in the stores, neighbors or drivers(!). Still, finding the appropriate place for an aging parent is not a simple job. If moving is one of life's toughest jobs for a person in good health and sound mind, it's a treacherous task for a 90 year old with many ailments, both real and imagined. A few minutes after arriving at Merrill Gardens, my wife and I turned to each other and said "this is it". My mother moved there 3 weeks after we settled into our new home. Any transition is hard, especially for an elderly person who established a life in one city and didn't really want to try it again in another. She only lived 5 weeks in Merrill Gardens before succumbing to a variety of medical issues, but the staff and people in that residence made our lives as sweet as possible, both before and after her passing. - Location: Convenient. Merrill Gardens is in the northern part of Santa Maria, about 3 minutes east of Highway 101 off the Donovan Road exit. - Exterior: Very attractive. There are 2 large 3 story buildings...one built in the early 2000s and the other around 2010 (I believe)...plus a circle of cottages to the north and east. Attention has obviously been given to the landscaping which gives the complex a residential appeal. You might say it's the nicest part of the neighborhood. - Interior (of the newer building where my mother lived): Bright and cheerful. The receptionist and concierge are just inside the entrance with a "great room" to the left. It's warm, colorful and cozy. The initial feeling you get is "they take care of things at this place". The dining room remains open from early morning to late evening since Merrill Gardens has a policy of "anytime dining". It's large and airy with tables spaced far enough apart to permit privacy yet allow conversation among friends. The hallways are more spacious and inviting than at similar facilities. There are several rooms for meetings and movies, the largest library I've seen in such places and a very active pool table nearby. - Apartments: Generous. My mother had a one bedroom unit on the 2nd floor with about 600 square feet plus a balcony of 100 square feet. When she arrived, there had only been one occupant since the facility opened. It was cleaned and painted with a bigger kitchen than she had in San Jose...including a large refrigerator, microwave and stove. Maybe not all the amenities of a real home (such as a lack of good storage), but not too shabby either. - Dining: Really good. My mother was a picky eater, but definitely enjoyed her meals at Merrill Gardens. While we were sometimes dragged to dinner in San Jose, we went willingly here. The food was tasty and the servers friendly and patient. - Senior Staff: The best. We can't say enough good things about the Chief Executive, Audie Sherberg and Community Managers Kim Adams and Gary Gross, but I'll try. Kind, accommodating, informative and willing to listen to a family's tales of woe. It was like having friends on the inside. The receptionists were always helpful, especially Barbara during the week. - Caretakers and Other Staff: More of the best. Kind, supportive and patient. They're not the most highly paid, but their jobs are tough. - Other Residents: Very friendly. It's as if the happy atmosphere of the Central Coast extended to the residents. Older age did not deter these people from smiling. - Cost: Reasonable. We paid $3,250/month for the one bedroom apartment which was roughly the same as in San Jose, but for a nicer facility. However, it can get expensive if you need ancillary services, including management of medicines and specialized care. NOTE: The initial "community fee" of $4,000 covers the facility's move-in costs. If your family member leaves within the first 4 months, you'll get a pro-rated amount back. Mr. Sherberg was very helpful in getting us the largest possible refund. - Value: Excellent. The best money spent in quite a while. I hesitated writing this review for a few months after my mother's death because I wanted to make sure the long process ended as well as it began. It did. There are no "ifs, ands or buts" to the 5 stars awarded to Merrill Gardens in Santa Maria.

In fact, we felt safe here. With that said, check in was prompt and polite. We were given two bottles of water (appreciated), the WiFi password and told what the breakfast included hours were. The room was a sweet surprise! It was very large and BONUS there is a Keurig (well, cheaper brand). I travel with my favorite K-cups so I was really pleased. The bathroom is really large and I LOVED the "women's" area. I mean, a place with mirrors including on the side (so I can see the side and back of my head)! Wow! A hair dryer with outlets was right there, too. The toilet was in an enclosed room, too. There is only one negative-- and that is the hot water. It took forever for the water to heat, and even then it was more "tepid" than hot. Breakfast was a pleasant surprised. Coffee machine with a choice of Americamo, Latte, Capuccino etc. Nice! Orange or Apple juice dispenser. Omelette (not hand made for you... more pre-fab, but still good. Potatoes, sausage, yogurt, fruit, pastries. Really a nice setup and much appreciated. A good friend in Trilogy heard about John Birk, a fellow resident who's an electrical and plumbing contractor. She asked John to do a bunch of projects around her house, including handyman type things, and highly recommended him to us and other friends. So far, John came by on 2 occasions. We've had him flush our tankless water heater, overhaul an electrical outlet in the garage, replace a water cartridge in a shower, repair a toilet paper fixture in a bathroom and inspect the sliders in a kitchen cabinet. In that last instance, he diagnosed the problem, but we've had trouble locating a replacement part online. Each visit went very well. Besides being a reasonable guy with an outgoing personality, John: - Is flexible with the calendar - Arrived on time - Explained what he needs to do before doing it - Brought his own tools - Charged a fair price Bob is a great resource for people living around Nipomo. We think he moved to Trilogy to slow down, but he seems to be in strong demand. Someone we won't hesitate to call again.
