We had lunch here yesterday. It was ok. Nothing super special. It was kind of on the expensive side for just prefab fried food. Me and one kid shared chili cheese fries and fried dill pickles and the other kid got the kids chicken strips. The kids chicken strip plate was rather large, so that was good. The ice cream that I tasted was kinda icy tasting, like it was almost freezer burnt so I didn't get myself any, but my kids loved it. But what kid don't love ice cream, freezer burnt or not?!?! Lol We might would visit again but it's not on the "have to" list!! Oh and as far as the ice cream cakes, there wasn't but two in the cooler and their boxes looked crushed. read more

I love this place and supporting local business. Especially during this Covid pandemic and how they are working their butts off through the drive-through. I especially like their BLTs which are made with Texas toast which is grilled in butter and is simply delicious their ice cream is not the best nor the worst you've ever had so it is good go here read more

This is actually a zero star review. Went through drive-through took 10 minutes to even take my order. They said it would be a 20 minute wait and to park. 30 minutes later no one is helping anyone in the drive-through and the lobby is packed. These owners should be ashamed of themselves not having enough people to work the restaurant. Will never waste my time again. read more

Carlsbad on a Sunday evening = dead zone. Our dinner options were basically McDonald's, the Chili's where we ate the night before, or Kaleidoscoops. Ice cream it is! So many flavors to choose from. I had a two-scoop hot fudge sundae with one scoop of moose tracks and one scoop of something that had brownies in it (gold medal, maybe?). It was amazing. An adorable shop with great ice cream. (Note: they do have actual food. Burgers, fries, chicken strips, and the like. But it was my vacation and I choose to eat ice cream for dinner. Because I could. Went in as a group we had two different people helping us one older Caucasian lady who was super helpful and definitely made our experience better but there was a younger Caucasian girl who had a disgusting attitude and literally looked like she hated her job and her customer service was terrible the kids enjoyed there ice creams and we left my review is for the younger girl who needs an attitude adjustment because customers are the reason you even have that job and to the one who helped us you deserve a raise read more

I wish I could give this place more stars. Ice cream is great! Front counter girls super sweet and on point. We made the mistake and placed a decent sized to go order, took a bit as there was one person in the kitchen. The wait was fine with us....But patty melt was a pretty dry...Corn dog had weird taste but maybe that's just us. Chicken Tenders were pretty decent....Fries meh, fried pickles tasted great but seeing we placed a bigger Togo order they were soggy once we got our order 5 min back down the road same with the frito pie, soggy(I should have told her to place topping inside at the beginning) which tasted like it'd be amazing if you ordered it there and ate it on the spot. We will try again in the future. I just think it was an off night. But our tab was around 42.00. 2 adults and a toddler so that's fair considering we ordered a variety of things. This place is really cute. I'm normally kind of snobby and prefer ice cream at a local place to be made in-house, but the flavor and quality of their ice cream was good. They have a LOT of flavor options. Expect to spend a little time figuring out what you want. My only complaint in regards to that is they didn't label most of the ice creams, so it was a lot of "What is that one? and that one?" and so on. One thing I really liked is they make their own waffle cones! The waffle cone was delicious, and obviously fresh. There seemed to be just the tiniest hint of cinnamon, which paired well with the ice cream. Delicious. They do appear to have food, but I cannot comment on that as I didn't eat there. The seating outside was absolutely lovely, as was the service. When I have to go back to Carlsbad for work again, I will definitely be trying out their food. read more

Stopped on a Friday night (Note: open later than 8:00 on Friday and Saturday nights); sign in door said they apologized but were out of most of their ice cream flavors! We found, though, that there were still more than enough choices! Great variety and they tasted really good. Big cones, can get multiple flavors in a cone or a cup. Big crowd but efficient service. The restaurant was small and busy for its size. The tables were taken or dirty. The menu wasn't on the wall except for the kids meals and the happy hour selections. I finally found the menu next to the registers. We ended up eating at an outside table that was covered in dirt. Went in with $20 and couldn't feed three of us. Kid had chicken strip meal for $6.95. It came with one chicken strip, a piece of Texas toast, white gravy, fries, a drink, and a kid scoop of ice cream. The other combos were about $8 and up. The fries were a little soggy and greasy but overall the meal was tasty. Because of cost my husband and I got ice cream; one banana split and one banana royale. We got different flavors of ice cream. We both enjoyed our treats. The service was so so. They weren't very friendly and they got my kids drink wrong. Overall the ice cream was good, food was okay, facility was disappointing, service was so so. Because of cost I wouldn't go back for food, just ice cream. read more

Visiting from california, always seen the place but never stopped for many years.. wanted some late night shakes(9pm) went to carls jr and like many fast food places... sorry no shakes so we were more than happy to try them across the street..They were busy with families with kids..we were greeted when we walked in, asked for more time and the staff was sooooo polite, friendly and nice..prices are reasonable even cheap for the effort and quality ingredients...We are returning today... Never again! I ordered Patty Melt on rye, after a 30 minute wait, it came on white bread, next I asked for sweet n low and was pointed to a cart and told" it's somewhere over there" finally another customer went to sit in a dirty booth with his family and was given a wet towel to clean his own table! The employees do not wash their hands. They work the cashier and prepare the food without washing their hands in between. The three employees working did not wash their hands for any of the nine customers ahead of us. Once it was our turn, i had to tell her to wash her hands. read more

Filthy. Surprised to see that this place somehow has a 4 star rating. Standards aren't very high in Carlsbad I guess. Cleaning is definitely not a priority here. Dirty, dingy, dead flies all over the window sills. I'd stay away personally. And the fried food I got was clearly cooked in very used oil as there were nice little off color chunklets attached to my food, I suppose probably from several day fried pieces of other foods floating in the oil. I'd love to know what their health inspection looks like. Can't be good. read more

One of my favorite places. Period. I was 6 when we first moved here and this place was a Baskin Robbins. At some point, it became KaleidoScoops. The ice cream is just as good as BR. My favorite is Eskimo Kisses, when it's in stock. There appears to be a flavor rotation. They make the best burger in town. The meat is fresh and seasoned for a taste that is pleasing and nostalgic. They use real cheese, not processed slices. They also have the best onion rings in town since the Tastee Freez. Lovely tempura batter, always crisp and never soggy. They also do breakfast which I have yet to try. One thing I had, though, was the steak sandwich. Most places you see steak sandwich on the menu, you think chicken fried steak sandwich. Here, it's slices of steak, seasoned and cooked just right. On Texas Toast. I'm not sure how I feel about that. It wasn't bad, just different. So if you want to try something unique, try the steak sandwich. KaleidoScoops has been here for years. Family owned. Like a lot of places in this town, the service can be inconsistent--a hazard of employing teenagers--but I would say the good occurs way more often than not. In my own experience, when it hasn't been good, it wasn't bad. Just not as good. I grew up in this town, went into the wide world for 20 odd years and came back. I miss the restaurant variety of the big city. I've tried several of the places in Carlsbad that have high ratings on Yelp and wasn't particularly impressed. I have found the places I like for certain foods. There are a small handful of places I will go when I want to order out. This is one of them. read more

Dirty dirty dirty! Girl behind counter was eating when I walked in. Didn't wash her hands and then touched my waffle cone with bare hands. When she started scooping my ice cream I noticed it was 2 different colors. Old vs new. I asked if she could swap it out for something fresher, like another flavor- she said "no."
