My husband dropped me off at the emergency entrance since my water broke after hours and without even needing to say a word, an aide met me with a wheel chair to bring me to labor and delivery. The nurses mentioned in passing that it was a busy night but you would have never known from our end of things. I had help in a matter of moments after pressing the call light and the nurses and aides checked on us frequently throughout our entire stay. Everyone was so friendly and helped to make my first birth experience more meaningful and enjoyable. The lactation consultants were all very considerate and patient with us and were willing to spend extra time with us to make sure we felt comfortable with the process prior to leaving the hospital. Two of my main nurses were Peggy and Kristen and they were fantastic to work with! I wish I could remember all the names of the gals who helped us to give proper credit but just know that no matter what nurse or aide you are greeted with upon entry, you will be given high quality care! So after reading some negative reviews, I was rather nervous to come here for my first time. I'm so…read moreglad my experiences were great and I can honestly say I would rather drive out of my way to come here than go to the hospital which is right around the corner from my house (Millard Filmore Suburban). My first visit here was for a pre-op appointment for a tonsillectomy about 1 week prior to surgery. My wait times were short for each thing I needed to do, from preregistration, to lab work, to chest X-rays, to a physical. Everyone was very nice and the experience was quite personable actually which is something I always favor (even paid triple tuition for small classrooms at a private college - perhaps not to smart but it is my preference!). My next visit was for surgery, in which lies my only complaints; everything was fine until after surgery. But my first nurse I had coming out of anesthesia sort of was coaxing me to give a lower pain grade than I truly felt. She was such a sweet sweet nurse and was wiping my tears away and just being so endearing so I don't feel she was doing it other than possibly a little pressure as her position and maybe many patients confuse their levels of pain because they are scared and nervous and emotional. Then, when I saw my last nurse Bob who saw me until the end of my stay as an outpatient, I felt very frustrated because I had an extremely painful tonsillectomy and I tried to nod my head yes and no to his questions and hold up fingers for my pain management and his response was "ok we are not going to give nods and hold up fingers I need to hear you respond". It was very frustrating and insulting and I remember looking to my friend giving the ride like "why aren't you speaking up for me?" But after my doctor who performed surgery stopped by to see me, Bob seemed a bit more understanding that my throat is a mess. I think maybe there should be a little meeting to discuss the effects of adult tonsillectomies because they aren't as common and the older you are, the more of a nightmare (it's a long, dreadful recovery that most adults over 30 describe as the most painful experience of their lives - and I can attest). Other than this situation, Bob was a nice nurse just doing his best. Again, I think some quick information sent out to the severity of this operation is needed and the nurses may be a bit more understanding. After these two experiences, I was going to leave a 4 star review but my re admittance to the hospital 3 days later really left me feeling so warm and fuzzy towards this hospital that they earned that last star back: So 4 days after surgery I absolutely could not take the pain anymore. I couldn't swallow at all and could barley breath due to swelling. I originally went to Millard Filmore because it was a Saturday when doc is closed and this is also waking distance from my home. I was informed my doctor is not in network there and I would likely need to be transferred to St Joes Sisters of Charity where my operation was done. Once they reached my doctor, I took an ambulance over there. Mind you, I was still in pain because they didn't give me very strong meds at Millard Filmore despite being there for hours. As soon as the ambulance got me to st joes I felt almost immediate relief! They quickly registered me in ER as I had to wait for a room and the doctor said "don't worry, we got more pain meds than pain you can ever have!" And I was given something that took away so much of my pain so fast! Ahhh relief! That's all I wanted since surgery! Once a room opened for me, I went up to the surgery recovery floor where I spent the night and was discharged by about 1:30 the next day. I had my own room with TV in ER. Once admitted to my overnight room, I had my own large room. It was wonderful! Not all rooms are alone so please don't expect this - I just got lucky! And yes they have TV with minimal channels, but enough options to please most. They provide a baggy with basic hygienic needs. And you can ask for earplugs, hospital socks, etc. at no extra charge. I recommend they offer eye masks as well because the lights can be very bright from even just the machines they hook IVs to .. let alone if you are sharing a room and sharing those disturbances from another patient being treated. Hopefully they will offer that sometime. The staff was all very nice to me. I loved my overnight nurse so much. I wish I could remember her name. But anyways, they did not give me a hard time at all about pain meds or doing things to make me comfortable. When it came time to discharge, I truly did not want to leave. Everyone was so efficient and caring. I was well taken care of since the moment I arrived and until this moment, I had no idea hospitals were even capable of being so wonderful! I just assumed everyone was too busy to be truly nice to anyone. Upon discharge, I was given a small plant of budding flowers and a thank you card for being a patient.

So we were a little skeptical at first with this hospital. Unfortunately grandma fell while…read morevisiting Niagara Falls and we wanted to get her hip x-rayed. Someone suggested this particular hospital so we drove from Canada into the Buffalo New York area. At first looking at the reviews we were hesitant however we decided to proceed forward. The staff as you enter the hospital was very friendly. They came out to the car and helped us get grandma out of the backseat of the SUV. The Hospital was not busy so our wait times were low, they moved her into the back and got her all checked in. We immediately went to x-ray and again the staff was absolutely wonderful. The nice young man who used to be a paramedic was very kind and helped with the anxiety and fear that grandma head. At the end of the day thankfully grandma's hip was not fractured, we were given a copy of our x-rays and we will head back to Southern California and follow up with her primary doctor. When you read all the negative reviews please make sure to take a look at what they are really complaining about. Most people are complaining about the time delay while waiting to get checked in. That is how it is at most ER's and I don't think it's fair that you write a negative review about how long the wait time is , it really comes down to how many people are sick and injured. We were very lucky and there was no one ahead of us so we were in and out in less than 2 1/2 hours. If you go to the ER and there are several people in front of you you're gonna have to wait and that is not the fault of the hospital.

I have to agree with the reviews about "care" for loved ones who are experiencing mental illness…read more After taking my adolescent child to the Psychiatric CPEP, I was first told by the social worker that my child was feeling anxious about the 1st day of school and repeatedly talked over me. He discounted a long history of chid's severe depression and anxiety, as well as a history of chronic pain and illness. He also dismissed statements that child feared hurting themselfand others. Thank God I travel with medical paperwork to substantiate the several medical and psychological issues and I was finally told they would "hold on to" my child. Where the keep the kids should be illegal, but I do understand that they have to maintain safethy. But they could do more as the environment was scary and the adults were indifferent. My child was evaluated by a psychiatrist during the night and I was called and asked if I was comfortable taking child home. I was also told they do not prescribe medication in CPEP and I was directed to follow up with Children's Psych Center, (although they don't take our insurance) or another provider for outpatient therapy. I was not comfortable and said so. Child was evaluated again by another psychiatrist and after discussion, it was agreed to have child moved up to the Adolescent Behavioral Unit. My husband and I met with child's counselor and was told that he agreed child was not safe to go home, child needed to be medicated, (which would take 4-6 weeks to start taking effect), and child would be evaluated weekly to determine safety. I was also told counselor would work with child on skills to address some identified concerns. As parents, we felt relieved that child would begin a treatment in a safe environment and would be released when child became more stable. That afternoon I was called by a doctor in the unit. I was told that what the counselor had said was incorrect and should not have shared that information with us. I was also told we don't keep kids for that length of time (which we didn't know at the time) and that "we don't do that here" when I asked why she wasn't getting a supplement required to help manage a suymptom child's health condition (even though the pharm said it wouldn't be a problem). The doctor who spoke to me was very dismissive rude and again like the s.w. in CPEP, repeateldy spoke over me. As time went on, child continued to express highly concerning statements, so I was very suprised to have the social worker contact me and say that the dr. wanted to discharge child the next day. I explained my concerns and fears (child was only on a few days of meds and was expressing terrifying statements) and the s.w. said she would speak to the dr. I was called the next day to say that he was still planning to discharge her. After I stated that child was not safe to come home, s.w. talked to the dr. and he called me shortly after. He didn't care about my concerns and again talked over me and I had to ask to have my turn to talk. I was told that my child had a specific mental illness without an evaluation, a condition that other providers - including in the CPEP - disagreed with. I said again child couldn't come home as we couldn't keep child safe. Dr. said he would list child "as no where to go." At this point child was engaging in self-harm with a safety pencil in the unit and gave child several wounds. Nursing staff was unconcered. Now, I am just a parent. I have never had anything to do with the field of mental health. I was terrified to bring child home and was encouraged by other medical providers not to bring child home as we couldn't ensure child's safety. I asked for some other step down or longer term program to have child stabilized before release. There was no empathy at all. My child was getting worse and worse in the unit, so after calling anyone and everyone for help - and believe me there is no help available to help prevent a crisis - the only thing I could do was take child home. Again, I am not familiar with this world and I can admit when I'm wrong, child is doing better at home, but continues to be very unsafe and I have had to take a leave from my job to watch child. The referral I was given was to a counseling service whose office worker gave me another patient pyschiatric evaluation with my child's intial paperwork, but that's another story. We will not follow up with this counseling due to Hippa violations. Finally, child's prescribtion was not being filled by the phramacy and was under "review" for 2 days. I called phramacy and was told the script was sent by a provider who's license had expired (???). My child went for 2 days without medication . I know this review is long, but I believe you need to understand the lack of care, empathy, and understanding for families that are experiencing the worst moments of their lives. I hope we never have to go through this experience again, but if we do, we will avoid this hospital at all costs.

I had complications from the first surgery, which led to an emergency situation. I had 2 more surgeries in 2 weeks and spent 16 days in the hospital. My review here is for the nursing staff and the nurses aids most of all. What an incredible group of people! I can't even begin to describe how they helped me through 2 weeks of severe pain. At times I needed as much care as a baby. Could barely move in bed without help. These amazing nurses and aids were always there for me. In addition to absolute professionalism, they were all genuinely friendly and compassionate. I had so much pain that I was given dilaudid up to every 3 hours as needed for the entire 16 day period and they made sure I remained as comfortable as possible. I also truly enjoyed talking to all of them. They were willing to trade stories or just chat a bit as time allowed and this helped me feel less lonely and I will admit, I was afraid sometimes - it was serious. But they put me at ease. Many went out of their way to provide comfort in various forms. One angel of a nurse was sharing her love of animals with me and I showed her a picture of my late dog. She took a picture of my dog on her phone and the next day brought me a plaque with that photo on it and a sweet saying in her remembrance. Got choked up from that kindness! I have yet another surgery coming up in a couple months. It's serious as well. Hopefully just a few days in the hospital if all works out. I'm certainly not looking forward to another surgery and hospitalization but I must admit, I'm looking forward to these incredible nurses that I know I can depend on. Amazing nursing staff.
