Flowers and thank you card from the head nurse and staff of the 4th floor - kindest gesture I have ever seen!
Sara K.

So after reading some negative reviews, I was rather nervous to come here for my first time. I'm so glad my experiences were great and I can honestly say I would rather drive out of my way to come here than go to the hospital which is right around the corner from my house (Millard Filmore Suburban). My first visit here was for a pre-op appointment for a tonsillectomy about 1 week prior to surgery. My wait times were short for each thing I needed to do, from preregistration, to lab work, to chest X-rays, to a physical. Everyone was very nice and the experience was quite personable actually which is something I always favor (even paid triple tuition for small classrooms at a private college - perhaps not to smart but it is my preference!). My next visit was for surgery, in which lies my only complaints; everything was fine until after surgery. But my first nurse I had coming out of anesthesia sort of was coaxing me to give a lower pain grade than I truly felt. She was such a sweet sweet nurse and was wiping my tears away and just being so endearing so I don't feel she was doing it other than possibly a little pressure as her position and maybe many patients confuse their levels of pain because they are scared and nervous and emotional. Then, when I saw my last nurse Bob who saw me until the end of my stay as an outpatient, I felt very frustrated because I had an extremely painful tonsillectomy and I tried to nod my head yes and no to his questions and hold up fingers for my pain management and his response was "ok we are not going to give nods and hold up fingers I need to hear you respond". It was very frustrating and insulting and I remember looking to my friend giving the ride like "why aren't you speaking up for me?" But after my doctor who performed surgery stopped by to see me, Bob seemed a bit more understanding that my throat is a mess. I think maybe there should be a little meeting to discuss the effects of adult tonsillectomies because they aren't as common and the older you are, the more of a nightmare (it's a long, dreadful recovery that most adults over 30 describe as the most painful experience of their lives - and I can attest). Other than this situation, Bob was a nice nurse just doing his best. Again, I think some quick information sent out to the severity of this operation is needed and the nurses may be a bit more understanding. After these two experiences, I was going to leave a 4 star review but my re admittance to the hospital 3 days later really left me feeling so warm and fuzzy towards this hospital that they earned that last star back: So 4 days after surgery I absolutely could not take the pain anymore. I couldn't swallow at all and could barley breath due to swelling. I originally went to Millard Filmore because it was a Saturday when doc is closed and this is also waking distance from my home. I was informed my doctor is not in network there and I would likely need to be transferred to St Joes Sisters of Charity where my operation was done. Once they reached my doctor, I took an ambulance over there. Mind you, I was still in pain because they didn't give me very strong meds at Millard Filmore despite being there for hours. As soon as the ambulance got me to st joes I felt almost immediate relief! They quickly registered me in ER as I had to wait for a room and the doctor said "don't worry, we got more pain meds than pain you can ever have!" And I was given something that took away so much of my pain so fast! Ahhh relief! That's all I wanted since surgery! Once a room opened for me, I went up to the surgery recovery floor where I spent the night and was discharged by about 1:30 the next day. I had my own room with TV in ER. Once admitted to my overnight room, I had my own large room. It was wonderful! Not all rooms are alone so please don't expect this - I just got lucky! And yes they have TV with minimal channels, but enough options to please most. They provide a baggy with basic hygienic needs. And you can ask for earplugs, hospital socks, etc. at no extra charge. I recommend they offer eye masks as well because the lights can be very bright from even just the machines they hook IVs to .. let alone if you are sharing a room and sharing those disturbances from another patient being treated. Hopefully they will offer that sometime. The staff was all very nice to me. I loved my overnight nurse so much. I wish I could remember her name. But anyways, they did not give me a hard time at all about pain meds or doing things to make me comfortable. When it came time to discharge, I truly did not want to leave. Everyone was so efficient and caring. I was well taken care of since the moment I arrived and until this moment, I had no idea hospitals were even capable of being so wonderful! I just assumed everyone was too busy to be truly nice to anyone. Upon discharge, I was given a small plant of budding flowers and a thank you card for being a patient.

Both times with someone who is immune compromised and has specific care needs. When we arrived the first time there was an incredibly kind security officer who was so helpful on so many levels that he would have almost made up for the rest of the unimaginable things that I saw in the waiting room. Of all places to see people without masks or with the masks on incorrectly, you certainly wouldn't expect it in a hospital. Not on incoming patients or visitors and staff alike in the waiting area. Not on nurses or doctors in the triage area as well. I'm at a complete loss. And what further confounded me was the fact that I was completely forgotten about in the waiting room from 10:20 till 12:50. When I did finally get back there , he ( the patient) said he had asked for me several times. I completely understand that it's very difficult juggling situations that occur in the ER, I've spent most of the last ten years in hospitals. Once back there the staff was kind and caring with or without masks. The next trip , the 10am trip was much better controlled in the mask department. Everyone was wearing one and it was on correctly. Everyone in the intake was absolutely kind and lovely. There were somethings that as a caregiver, I had to tell staff , that I would have hoped they would have known. But these are special circumstances so that can be let go. So essentially people who work here are nothing but kind, but some of the rules are followed to the point of harming the emotional well being of the patient and some are not followed well at all such as to endanger all of the people here. I forgot to mention that the chairs and tables were not cleaned at all in all the hours I was waiting here.

Why would you allow,or clear,a patient for AN ELECTIVE SURGERY,when that patient had sepsis (Enterococcus faecalis),not responding whatsoever to treatment, her heart valve also had this growing on it (They were going to send her to Mercy Hospital, NEVER DID) and pneumonia. They first said she was too sick to go to the OR,then someone said they were going to take, then no again. This went on for about 5 or 6 changes. We asked time again what was going on ,and we're told, shes going into surgery.... Later that night coded.... Sent to ICU... Passed away at 8:03 a.m. the next day,but im thinking it was before that. Shouldn't the heart, which runs everything AND the bacteria be "fixed" or tended to first? Absolutely NO communication between staff, nobody could answer ANYTHING and when you did ask,you were really putting them out. In my surgical experience, if you so much as sneezed ,you were rescheduled. This was NOT life threatening. No common sense much less medical knowledge Thank you Sisters of Charity Hospital for taking my mother. Yeah...such a "great place"

Someone suggested this particular hospital so we drove from Canada into the Buffalo New York area. At first looking at the reviews we were hesitant however we decided to proceed forward. The staff as you enter the hospital was very friendly. They came out to the car and helped us get grandma out of the backseat of the SUV. The Hospital was not busy so our wait times were low, they moved her into the back and got her all checked in. We immediately went to x-ray and again the staff was absolutely wonderful. The nice young man who used to be a paramedic was very kind and helped with the anxiety and fear that grandma head. At the end of the day thankfully grandma's hip was not fractured, we were given a copy of our x-rays and we will head back to Southern California and follow up with her primary doctor. When you read all the negative reviews please make sure to take a look at what they are really complaining about. Most people are complaining about the time delay while waiting to get checked in. That is how it is at most ER's and I don't think it's fair that you write a negative review about how long the wait time is , it really comes down to how many people are sick and injured. We were very lucky and there was no one ahead of us so we were in and out in less than 2 1/2 hours. If you go to the ER and there are several people in front of you you're gonna have to wait and that is not the fault of the hospital.

But, Dr. Frustino and nurse Lori Ann put me totally at ease. The dr. explained everything, using words I could understand, the procedure was essentially painless, and when i called a few days later with some questions, it was the doctor herself who called back that same day. When the results came in, she called me to tell me the good news, rather than requiring me to wait until my follow-up appt. I didn't have to ask for a copy of the report; she offered it to me, and explained what everything meant. Hopefully, you'll never need to use their services, but if you do, go with confidence!

So I could tell…read moremany stories about the exceptional care and staff but I'll just recount my latest experience having outpatient hernia surgery here on May 9, 2026. It was a breeze, to be honest. I did my presurgery testing there as well. Easy check in at the kiosk and they take you immediately at your appointment time. I personally never had to wait. Three tests, out the door in half an hour. Very similar day of surgery. I arrived 10 minutes early and was getting dressed in a lovely gown within moments. I wasn't particularly nervous about the operation certainly there's always a bit of anxiety. It helps a lot to be prepped for surgery quickly and by the most polite, professional and kind staff you can hope for. It takes about 2 hours to get a patient ready and it goes by fast. It's also understandable that sometimes there might be a delay but it's no one's fault. Emergency room delays are common everywhere and it depends entirely on how many people need care at the same time. Staff aren't responsible for a rush of ailing people and they do their best to triage appropriately and provide the required care. A shot of "happy juice" in my IV and I enjoyed a rather breezy and relaxed ride into the operating room. At which point, dreamland in moments. Next thing you know, you're awake and being offered ice chips and a ginger ale and graham crackers. I was up walking to the restroom in no time and out the door soon thereafter. Without recounting each time myself or family has been there, I can tell you that every nurse is incredible and every doctor takes the time to listen and address concerns. (I did meet one physician I didn't care for, to be honest, but taking into account 40 years of going here, I don't think that's worth even a gentle complaint.) I noticed someone mentioned difficulty finding parking. I had that happen only once but it was a short walk from a side street to the front door. I hope I don't need their services too often but if I do, I know I'll be taken care of properly and with professionalism and a caring staff who understands any hospital visit can be stressful and they do all they can to make it easy for you.

Well, they called there and they had a 6 hour wait. So we went to Degraff. Degraff was nice and small and not overwhelmed with people. It was nice to experience this. You'll tell security why you're there, fill out a little yellow form, and put it in a tray outside of the triage nurse window. While you're waiting, there is a TV on. Surprisingly, it was playing Psycho (the old Alfred Hitchcock movie). I'm not complaining at all, just was not expecting that! There is a station where you can borrow complimentary chargers, which was great, as I was not expecting this and my phone was low on battery. You'll give the machine your number and a credit or debit card from your phone (I think I used Apple Pay). This is just to assure you'll bring the charger back and will not charge you unless you don't bring it back on time (I believe it gave me 24 hours with it, if needed). It will give you the date and time to return by. Then, you'll just stick in any of the open ports and you'll get a text confirming your return (and a message on the screen where you returned it).
