Oral Oncology & Maxillofacial Prosthetics is the part where I went for an evaluation of a spot on of the roof of my mouth! Biopsy needed. Scary? yes! But, Dr. Frustino and nurse Lori Ann put me totally at ease. The dr. explained everything, using words I could understand, the procedure was essentially painless, and when i called a few days later with some questions, it was the doctor herself who called back that same day. When the results came in, she called me to tell me the good news, rather than requiring me to wait until my follow-up appt. I didn't have to ask for a copy of the report; she offered it to me, and explained what everything meant. Tl;dr: poor care, 12 hours and counting for check-up after car crash. The good: the facility LOOKED clean at a glance, but that's about it (and even that starts to show its cracks) The ugly: burnt cigarettes on the ground, poor hygiene, terrible smell coming out randomly out of nowhere The bad: extremely bad environment, many homeless people sleeping on seats (one was found masturbating in the vending room!!!), extremely long wait times. The horrendous: hospitality is far beyond nonexistent, almost like the word is not in their dictionary. Was meant to be "checked" in "45 minutes" and it has now been more than 4 hours since my last checkup. I tried inquiring about my status and how long i may have to wait and i was abruptly cut off by a lady with heavy makeup saying "you're waiting on a room". If you're in a situation and need to go to a hospital, make sure you avoid this one. It is by no means considered a hospital at all, if anything it's much less. People here are heartless and will not show an ounce of care towards you. read more

I'm not going to tell my whole story here because it's way too long but, I was dropped off here against my will because someone said I was going to hurt someone else. Fair enough he said she said what can I do when two crisis service persons and a couple please and people from the ambulance and then more police come standing out front of your house in Kenmore New York where you have live in a very nice neighborhood pluck you out of your house what can one do. I got dropped off there and I had been there before but many years ago for having suicidal thoughts This is over 15 years ago and presuming about. This place has severely changed. It is disgustingly dirty the most dirtiest place I've ever slept in that was a hospital or any type of medical facility. On top of being dirty there were bugs flying around. It was just absolutely disgustingly dirty nasty and I had to stay there for 10 days. 7 days I was down in the waiting room 7 days. I'm going to tell you this people If you don't go in crazy and nuts and off your rocker and a couple sandwiches short of a picnic you are going to walk out one of those, I promise you!! Yes I'm joking but it almost feels like it It seriously almost feels like you're going to lose your mind staying in that place. Let me reiterate it was disgusting all the furniture was disgusting the floors were disgusting constantly the bathrooms were just like I can equate the bathrooms to a prison bathroom cleanliness. I am not joking I've been in both prison and in the hospital here. I'm not boasting but I am comparing. When I was in prison it was because I broke the law but when I was in this place it was because I've done nothing wrong and I tried to explain I've done nothing wrong and well, out of a 2-hour story I told the crisis services people they decided to take one thing out of context and use it against me. On top of it I had a counselor who apparently didn't get the message I sent to her and got really worried but if she would have got this message none of this would have taken place and her name starts with an M. And she works at best self and I have been a customer of best self I mean patient for years and I just met this counselor literally weeks ago because my original counselor left good for her but bad for me I met this MG let's call her. A long story short is basically she didn't get the message that was supposed to be given to her to let her know everything's fine and I was apologized to afterwards because the person never gave her the message, but I spent 10 days 9 nights in this oh my gosh I don't know what to call it It is not a hospital It's like a slash between prison a hospital and the nastiest place you ever want to lay your head I don't know what you would want to call it The ground maybe lol. They give you this pillow that is so flat even jail pillows are better. Then let's talk about the staff a little here, they are some real effing a-holes let me tell you that from the bottom of my heart. And I'm a Christian man I try my best to watch my tongue I try to best in all that I do and I'm not better than anyone but I will say that Jesus Christ has changed my life for the better and I try to just do as best as I can to work to pay my bills to spend time with family and to do the things that a normal person does in life. Well I've been having some issues causing me to have mental health issues and I've been you know seeing my counselor more often and I've been seeing my therapist more often or you know psychiatrist I guess you could call her and everything's been going right except for the last several months I've been having trouble at work causing me to have mental health issues but never to hurt anyone I never was going to hurt anyone in the first place and nor could I hurt anyone because I'm a 52-year-old man I'm an ex-con I don't want to get in trouble ever again I work 40 hours a week I just had bought myself a vehicle here I have an apartment you know I'm doing all right and you would think these people would see this at crisis services and you know not just the fact that I'm not crazy I'm a down-to-earth you know I can speak to you looking your eye I am a normal person I hate to say normal but I am a normal person I am not crazy nor am I schizo or whatever you want to call it. I have all my sandwiches okay and they know this by just talking to me but they plucked out one little thing out of price of services plucked out one little thing these two young girls who thought they know so much better than everyone in the whole world they are so smart so intelligent that nobody knows anything better than them trust me that's how they look at you and talk to you and they did not like me I don't think. But this is about ECMC, hey ECMC clean up your act You're disgusting! And get some staff that care about their people and don't make fun of the bad ones behind their back and laugh that was sad. Unsafe, Dehumanizing, and Traumatizing Experience If I could give zero stars, I would. I was admitted to ECMC's psychiatric ward during a mental health crisis, expecting compassion and treatment. Instead, I was met with cold indifference, invasive behavior, and outright neglect. CPEP is overcrowded with not enough beds--many patients are forced to sleep on hard chairs or the floor for days. When I finally found the only open bed, an African man--staff--approached me and said, "Uh uh, that's not for you," and forced me to leave it. I ended up having to sleep on a pile of used blankets on the floor, running on two full days without sleep. There was no accountability for men who exposed themselves or masturbated in front of others. Staff allowed certain patients to be openly violent, threatening, and aggressive without consequence, making the environment terrifying for everyone else. Unnecessary chemical and physical restraints were used in situations where they weren't justified. A male staff member who was Caucasian and tall seemed very educated made an overt sexual comment to me when no one else was within earshot. I was also left alone with an aggressive patient who repeatedly screamed at me, "Let's fight right now! Let's go right now!" while staff did nothing. They housed me in a room with a patient who seemed completely unaware of her surroundings, didn't respond to questions, talked to herself constantly, never showered, and eventually physically attacked me. She punched me in the head and face at least eight times and chased me out of our room. The only response from staff was to move her to another room just 15 feet away. During my 2020 stay, I came in severely dehydrated--barely able to urinate, just a few dark ounces. On the abscond risk unit, a short African American nurse refused to give me water, saying, "Hell no, I just got you water," even though it had been over 3 hours. When I said I'd report her, she hid her name tag. After I was discharged, I obtained my medical documents and was shocked to find that they had falsely labeled me as a severe crack/cocaine addict--something I never said, never tested positive for, and showed no signs of. No one ever discussed this with me. It was never brought up once during my stay. When I was finally being discharged, a staff member who said his name was Niko gave me paperwork with my medications and the pharmacy where I was supposed to pick them up. It was located approximately in the range of 12-25 miles from my home when I looked it up instead of the pharmacy I'd requested just 1 mile away. I told him I didn't have a car and couldn't get there, and he just said, "It's fine." One of those medications was a stool softener--because at that point I hadn't been able to use the bathroom in over two weeks, and they knew this. I left more traumatized than when I came in. ECMC psych ward is not a place of healing--it's a dangerous, chaotic, and inhumane facility that urgently needs investigation and reform. read more

ECMC continues to fail its community in need. This update is in regards to CPEP. A minor (child) was brought here. They allow kids to wear their street clothes and keep on their jewelry which could further inflict self-harm. There's a big room with mattresses on the floor. A family friend came to visit child and after when the father came, staff member was very angry first visitor was not legal parent (and they never said they were). They could have politely stated the rules and better confirmed the visitor (minor called him to bring change of clothes and he came to drop them off and they let him visit). A lot of everything was big giant guessing and waiting game. Pretty unstructured and confusing. Staff released minor with appointment for counseling the next day with some company "mobile counseling". No one showed up to minors house or called anyone. Could not reach number on appt card. When calling back CPEP, no one looked up records for appt. Told to refer to appt card when discharged. Obviously that's where everyone got the appt from in the first place! Was told it doesn't seem right it was for a Saturday and no other help offered. These programs need some sort of reboot and I wish someone would step in and make it happen. Very sad. Also want to state the man at the window, although nice, was watching videos on YouTube not appropriate for work and never gave a note written to this boy by his mother who wasn't able to see him. read more

It's very frustrating to see signs saying "no smoking on campus" and still have to walk through a small cloud of smoke at the main entrance. What isn't anyone enforcing the campus rules? It's a health facility. We shouldn't have to walk through a cigarette and vaping cloud. read more

My grandma broke her hip in Canada and got terrible care from that hospital. We got an ambulance service to take her over to ECMC just over the border and it was the best thing we could have done for her. they treated her so well and gave her surgery the next day. Had people sitting 6 plus hours in the emergency room and no one was called back for 3 hours. Multiple people left after sitting there for 7 hours who got there before me. It felt like staff didn't care to see anyone like no one can sit there all night waiting to be seen people got jobs to be able to pay bills and it felt like the triage nurse was trying to say that my reason for being there was not legit ok so my pain doesn't matter gotcha I will never come back here even if I was dying they would probably make me wait in the waiting room. read more

I was admitted to the children's mental health ward, 2 of the staff were having a fist fight with a 17 year old because he asked a question, we got yelled at for playing with a paper ball taking away our 1 hour limit of tv time, the food is terrible, nothing to do, you feel like you're being treated as if you were not human. I once asked a worker if I could have a change of clothes because they made me itch and made me uncomfortable and they yelled at me and left. read more

This is a tough one to review. My son was/really sick. I MEAN SICK !!!!! We got to the ER at 7:30pm. My baby (22 years old) was in so much pain,fever,aches everywhere,Nausea,Freezing like he was stuck in a blizzard for 2 days, dizzy, shortness of breath,mass chest pain & they didn't think he was important enough to be seen right away. Kid passed out in his chair. Everyone else was up & around,eating,drinking, playing games on their phones,watching movies,yapping away ,acting completely normal. Matty was the only one that you could tell,was in bad condition. Everyone was coming & going. People who came in hours afTer us were being taken in. They seemed fine. I kept going up to the window & asking what was going on ? Finally,the last guy told me the truth. They were taking the "Fast Track" patients first. The ones that would be in & out in no time. We waited over 5 hours to finally get a room. The waiting room was empty. So, that was the ridiculous part of this trip. They would get NO STARS. Once inside, he was taken care of after about 25 minutes. Then doctors & his nurse were in & out. They took good care of him. They were all so nice !!!! They treated my baby good & answered many questions for us. By the time we left,at around 4:30am,he was able to walk,talk,eat soup, drink juice & feel 60x better. That's where the 3 stars come in. They still weren't 100% sure what was wrong with him, but he was feeling much better. They think it was a strain of the flu. read more

This review concerns the Downtown ECMC Clinic at 1285 Main Street. They have very young student psychiatrists who are inappropriate and stupid beyond words. The treatment I've received there has resulted in my depression severely descending from bad to worse. I cannot imagine there is any oversight at all. Essentially, it appears to be set up for drug/alcohol addicts and they assume that if you're sitting in front of them, that is what you are, and treat you accordingly. I would not send my worst enemy to such a ghastly, inept "clinic." read more

Worst place to go EVER if you're looking for help. Take my advice STAY AWAY!!!!! I was attacked by a patient within 5 minutes of arrival. The staff were horrible starting with the nurses and including the Psychiatrist. I suffered a seizure and they took me for a Cat scan. I had a major sinus infection but they did not tell me or treat it. I have filed numerous complaints with them and the Department of Justice but NO ONE has addressed my concerns. So we were a little skeptical at first with this hospital. Unfortunately grandma fell while visiting Niagara Falls and we wanted to get her hip x-rayed. Someone suggested this particular hospital so we drove from Canada into the Buffalo New York area. At first looking at the reviews we were hesitant however we decided to proceed forward. The staff as you enter the hospital was very friendly. They came out to the car and helped us get grandma out of the backseat of the SUV. The Hospital was not busy so our wait times were low, they moved her into the back and got her all checked in. We immediately went to x-ray and again the staff was absolutely wonderful. The nice young man who used to be a paramedic was very kind and helped with the anxiety and fear that grandma head. At the end of the day thankfully grandma's hip was not fractured, we were given a copy of our x-rays and we will head back to Southern California and follow up with her primary doctor. When you read all the negative reviews please make sure to take a look at what they are really complaining about. Most people are complaining about the time delay while waiting to get checked in. That is how it is at most ER's and I don't think it's fair that you write a negative review about how long the wait time is , it really comes down to how many people are sick and injured. We were very lucky and there was no one ahead of us so we were in and out in less than 2 1/2 hours. If you go to the ER and there are several people in front of you you're gonna have to wait and that is not the fault of the hospital. read more

A worst experience ECMC Emergency Department. My son had an accident at ice skating, he was transported by an ambulance for an open cut under his eye browse. We waited for 11 hours before he received care. The great doctors applied stitches for him within an hour. This place needs help. No one should wait from 5:30 pm till 4::30am the next morning for stitches. read more

Being a patient is hard enough. Being in a very restricted mental ward (a necessary evil) is worse. But to give them very little outdoor time and limiting their visits to ONE a day for A HALF HOUR is CRUEL! Taking that one step further, on weekends they only have SIX (1/2 hr) slots open! Those are gone well in advance. These patients have very long days of NOTHING! No TVs in their room, no cell phones...and precious little visiting hours. The mental health care in this country SUCKS as it is...ECMC has made it far worse for them. Do fkn better! read more

Still waiting 5 hrs in the ER with my adult son who hasn't seen a Dr yet ! Need to R/O a blood clot in his leg - his foot and legs are very swollen and getting worse. The RN is nice but has no control over when The Dr will see him. I hope to never have to come here again . I feel badly for all the people who live near here and have to be seen here. Este programa es una instalación altamente insalubre y ridículamente abrumada a la que se envían pacientes de salud mental "en riesgo", muchas veces en contra de sus propios deseos, sin acceso a Internet, sus teléfonos, ni muchas necesidades básicas hasta que estén enviados oficialmente a una sala psiquiátrica para pacientes hospitalizados. Pasaron muchas horas antes de que un médico psiquiátrico me viera en CPEP (al menos 27 horas, si conté correctamente), y tuve que permanecer allí durante varios días más allá de lo que debería tener (dicen profusamente que "no hay camas disponibles arriba") en un ambiente extremadamente antihigiénico y discriminatorio. Los baños * regularmente se quedaron sin jabón *, y había * restricciones innecesarias * como tuberías complicadas para recibir su medicación diaria o según sea necesario (PRN), una curita, un san de días de antigüedad y empapado, sin que nadie esté obligado a usar una máscara, y nadie es visto rápidamente por un médico certificado por la junta. El personal no me proporcionó una ducha conforme a la ADA hasta que había estado en ECMC durante 7 días enteros, a pesar de que mi PCP ordenó el alojamiento para ayudarme a recuperarme de mi peroné astillado. Snapped internally yesterday morning, wound up in a psychiatric emergency center which was new to me. I walk in to a room full of others waiting to detox or be sent to psych inpatient. It's a waiting room for the mentally ill. I'm on my knees today. A room full of 30+ people of different ages, races, sexes/genders and not a single problem. Anytime someone yelled or tossed themselves on the floor no one was shot or yelled at. We all lived to recover and the staff actually gave a shit. Pun intended but the place was full of rocking chairs and I LOVE that. I am crazy, but I do seek help. Do you or are you living on borrowed time and hiding behind lies? How can you honestly live in a world this divided and be okay perpetuating it? My heart ACHES but today I'm new, They didn't admit me knowing it's heartache, not depression or high risk anything. They sent me home with all the resources I'll ever need to feel better about this shit. Thank you ECMC psychiatric staff. You're doing God's Work. read more

Front desk staff and front lobby security are very rude, front desk ladies, especially one with red hair, and gray hair with head band. They argue with families who want to see there dying family member. Would not even let the father up because of the 2 visitor rule. Which is completely irrational, most families have more than 2 family members in it. My family drove from all over the country to get here to see our dying family member. I get the two person visitor rule, but let us up to be with our family to support them in another WAITING ROOM! The staff here have no heart and no compassion completely unfair. Two visitors a day is completely irrational. Staff stared at us and would not let us go to tim hortons so we wouldn't go up to the ICU waiting room, families grieving DO NOT deserve staff staring down there back and whispering about us, and not allowing us to get food. Security guard stopped us on our way to tim hortons and asked for the patients name which is unacceptable and should not have asked us this information, you do not deserve to know the name of the patient if you have ZERO compassion for the family. This hospital is so backwards and would think none of the people working here have EVER gone through loss and grief. Would not recommend taking your family member here, they will only allow 2 people up at a time and will not allow you to switch. Take your family literally anywhere else if you want a chance to see them everyday, especially if they are critical care. ICU visiting hours are only 12-1 and 5-6. I believe all staff working in hospitals should have compassion, or even have the brain to realize when to stop arguing with families going through grief!! SIMPLY IGNORANT!!! I will say there are two ladies that work at the desk that let 20+ of my family members up, I believe one is Talika and the other one has short bob cut hair. They have made such a huge impact on our life letting our family be together in the ICU waiting room to support our family. And we thanked them and they know there fellow folks workers have no compassion or care for anyone else in the world. No compassion = don't work in Health Care. Front desk ladies are the first impression of a hospital and they ruined every good experience here. I am a nurse myself and will never want staff here taking care of my family ever again. read more

Only because 0 stars is not an option. Patient left without basic cares like being warm or comfortable, no wound care/dressing/debriding etc., and oxygen tube not long enough for patient to rest comfortably. When having waited a number of hours to be discharged we were told we were waiting on his blood work to come back before he could be released. While getting personal items together in preparation of release discovered blood, undelivered and therefore unprocessed, was on the counter in his room all along anyway. Discharged within thirty minutes of bringing it to their attention with no other care provided. Melted plastic still in burn wounds, weeping blisters untouched, no cream or any other type of topical ointment applied. Would never return unless there were no other option available. read more

If I could give them negative stars I would. I went there yesterday morning (5/13/24) at 9am as I was experiencing some pretty bad chest pain and shortness of breath. I was afraid that I was having a heart attack. The first hour goes by, and they still hadn't done an EKG and my breathing was becoming more staggered. Finally, they pulled me back for an EKG, and the one guy who had any sense said "wow you seem worse than when you got here" and then says well it looks fairly normal and sent me back into the waiting room. 3 hours later, I still hadn't been seen. I went to the desk and asked the same gentleman to see if they could at least draw blood and tell me if my potassium or triponin levels were high, after about 30 mins they drew blood in the middle of the hallway and sent me back into the waiting room. I waited another hour. Went to the desk to see if someone could just tell me the results of my blood test and was told no and they wouldn't bother to grab the dr to tell me either. After another hour, they requested a chest XRay. Did it - went back to waiting room. Waited another hour and half with nothing. Finally, I had enough. I went to the desk and said I was leaving and that I'd been sitting there for 7 hours not knowing whether I was going into cardiac arrest or not, finally the RN at the end was like "oh it's not a heart attack." I yelled back "well clearly or I'd be dead right now! Mind your business I didn't ask you for your input". This was the WORST care I have ever had in my life and they should be stripped of funding and closed down. read more

I wish I could leave a 0 star review. GO TO A VETERINARIAN before coming here!! Ask any staff (nurse, MD, ANYONE) what the gold standard of care is for an issue and watch them not comprehend the question. THAT is the level of care you will receive! Apparently, ECMC is not concerned with best practices, their head nurses hang up on you when you ask questions. And the standard response is: my job is to do this and nothing more. John, the Shift Team leader for CPEP is unable and unwilling to answer questions. CPEP @ ECMC: AKA: Welcome to 3 Days of Hell CPEP is a kind of psychiatric "emergency room" at ECMC. I was in CPEP 5 times in 2019 and it is a horrible place to be. People admitted there are made fun of and basically ignored. Staff are distant and cold and in an inner office surrounded by thick, clear plastic. If you knock on the door or window to say, get a glass of water, oftentimes you are IGNORED. There are not many beds there and they are usually taken up when you arrive so none are available. Usually a few will open up in 24 hours, but until then, you are given a blanket and you have to sleep on the floor. Another option is pushing two heavy, uncomfortable plastic chairs together and try to sleep on them, but it's impossible to sleep. The chairs are hard and uncomfortable. Besides, all the lights are on, the TV is blaring and people are laughing, yelling and otherwise carrying on, so next to no sleep for 3 days. That alone will ruin your mood. Also, when you first arrive, nurses tell you that you cannot have your psychiatric medications because "the psychiatrist may put you on a different medication." This is bulls*it. Total bulls*it. I was there 5 times and while I spoke to a psychiatrist every time (you have to wait 3 days to see one), the psychiatrist never, ever put me on any different medications. Never. Within 24 hours of being denied psyche meds, you go into withdrawal and your symptoms, such as anxiety, panic attacks, depression, aggression, kick in full blast and you are there for three days (72 hours) average. The meds help you feel better because they help keep you mentally stable. That's 3 days without your psyche meds. A girl that was there was begging the nurses to give her her nicotine patch, but they refused. I have never smoked, but I can't imagine having to bear nicotine withdrawal for 3 days. So you are stuck in a large room with about 20-30 people, all of which are off their psyche meds. This makes people even more agitated and unsafe. There are security guards there, but they're usually busy congregating in the corner and making fun of the patients. They called one man Frankenstein. I was made fun of once when I was there as well. The nurses in the station there made fun of me once there myself. I was trying to call a supervisor to complain about the conditions. The number to call is on a poster on a wall IN CPEP. There is one phone on the wall there and everyone has to use it, not unlike being in a prison. I got transferred around and then I spoke to someone. I heard someone say, "Turn around-- turn around!" I did so and it was one of the nurses in the station. It was she I was talking to. So in other words, if you want to complain about conditions, good luck. Everyone in the office laughed at me. So I was off my meds and was terribly depressed, crying over and over again. I was torture. I begged nurses to give me my meds, but they refused. At one point, I threw a pillow at the plastic-surrounded station, startling them all. "This is abuse!" I yelled at them. When you arrive, you are wanded and anything on you that can be used as a weapon- shoelaces and such-- are taken from you. This is a good idea, but if someone who is off their meds and walking around possibly deranged comes up behind you, all they need to do is grab your head and yank it-- hard-- instantly snapping your neck. One man I spoke to who was there was very nervous. "I've never felt so unsafe," he said. This was because a man was walking around, yelling, "at 11 o'clock I'm gonna kill you all!" The bathrooms oftentimes have no toilet paper or no soap. I have to be desperate to take a shower there because you have no idea if the mentally ill person before you without their meds, pissed on the floor. I saw a man in CPEP put his hand down the front of his pants and he kept it there. He then approached the bathroom and turned the door's handle, using the hand that was just down his pants. Also, you have to wait up to 24 hours to be discharged-- or longer. Imagine if you were in the ER and they told you can leave, but then you're stuck in the ER an additional for 24 hours? But in CPEP, things are "different," one of the nurses commented. You are treated "differently" from other human beings, apparently. This is just one or two stories. I was so disturbed by my experiences there that I called channel 4 because I feel the conditions and the treatment of patients in CPEP are terrible and the public needs to know about this. The treatment of the mentally ill there, who are there because they were experiencing a mental health crisis, is unacceptable. Place would not run if it didn't have the nurses but the receptionist staff in the ER on the other hand is garbage waited there for 8-9 hours just to get glass out of my arm and the whole time I was there they had a cardiac patient in the waiting room and they were obviously in pain and the receptionist staff basically told them if she didnt stop complaining they would put her on the back the list and make her wait longer as well as there was a patient that wasn't happy about waiting all day and then going back. I was here on the teen psychiatric unit when I was 13 one of the requirements upon me being put on the unit was I had to go on birth control because the boys on the unit would go in females room and they didn't want anybody getting pregnant. Worst place to get dropped off by an ambulance after a car accident. Waiting for 7 hours in ER without being seen is crazy!

I was taken in by ambulance for emergency trauma surgery after an accident. My surgery went well, bedside manner was pretty good, nurses in the orthopedic unit responded quickly, and my room was very nice and always kept clean. The only thing I didn't like during my post-op stay was the apparent lack of communication between doctors and nurses- no one seemed to have a clear understanding of what my care instructions were, and everyone I spoke to gave me a different answer. I also wish their visiting hours were longer since I really needed familial support during this time, but maybe that's due to COVID or something. The main issue arose when it was time for follow up appointments- every time I had a SCHEDULED follow up, I would end up waiting between 3 and 5 hours to be seen (typically 5). Everyone in the waiting room said they usually wait between 4 and 5 hours every time they come, too. I watched a woman approach the receptionist one time and said she had been waiting for 3 hours and needed to pick her kids up from school, so she was wondering how much longer it would be. The receptionist rudely replied, with zero empathy, that most people had been waiting longer than 3 hours (as if that was okay?) and she could either continue waiting or reschedule her appointment just to wait the exact same amount of time or longer when she returned. How is it okay to make people sit there for that long, most of them in pain, for an appointment scheduled for a specific time? They would also randomly call me to inform me my appointments had been rescheduled, leaving me with painful staples in my leg much longer than expected and forcing me to short-notice rearrange my work schedule several times (as my condition improved). If my unit, surgeon, and nurses weren't so good to me during my surgery and post-op stay (which I'd say is more important than follow ups), I'd rate 1 star based on their treatment during follow ups. Unfortunately you have no other option but to wait for them, and they have no problem taking advantage of that. read more

This review is for our family's experience with ECMC's Kidney Transplant (Renal Care Health Services). Our loved one became a living donor and received spectacular care, from screening through surgery, with very few and minor bumps in the months-long process. The living donor coordinator, Nicole was readily available for any questions or concerns. The accolades from every team member for Liise K. Kayler, MD, the surgeon, were unanimous in their praise. Apparently, many residents request to learn from her as she is such an amazing doctor. Wow. She was communicative and approachable, kudos. Donating a kidney is involved, from months of screening ("the best physical of your life") to a thorough evaluation process. Our living donor was pleased to meet with Rocco C. Venuto, MD, Internal Medicine/Nephrology. He is a brilliant doctor with a remarkable personality. The entire 10th floor is dedicated to Kidney medicine (surgery is on a different floor) and the rooms are very nice, large and actually comfy. The staff is special, (with the exception of one nurse experience) seeing to the patient's needs promptly and with great compassion. On discharge day, even the pharmacist paid a visit to review pain medication and avail himself for questions or concerns. I would like to see ECMC step-up their efforts regarding identifying living donors. For one, the hospital gown should distinguish the donor from the recipient, perhaps a different color and with a nicely designed patch stating "Donor" so there is NO confusion whatsoever about who is he donor, and who is the recipient. Any medical personnel should see at a GLANCE who is the donor. GENERAL ECMC TIPS * I learned on the last visit that you don't have to pull out your license ID every time; they've scanned it the first time, you just give your name and they print out a visitor's pass. * There are two lanes to exit and the parking exit arm lift is broken on average half the time. Really? You can push the button to buzz inside and they'll lift the arm for you to leave. Many cars try instead to reverse from the lane, with cars behind them, and it's rather a jam. * You can grow a beard waiting for the elevators. Be patient, bring your knitting. * There are several places to purchase coffee and other take-away food items. The Tim Horton's staff were exceptionally efficient and kind. This place sucks. A joke of a hospital took my mother in she needed emergency thumb surgery. Checked in at 5 and were sitting and now it's midnight. Not a peep, we asked for an update around 11 and they said oh maybe tomorrow. Other patients have been here since 1/2 in the afternoon and people are starting to walk out. The staff is completely apathetic and don't care at all. They place needs new management. AVOID AT ALL COSTS read more
