the estimated time for service is never correct. it is almost always twice as long as quoted. will never come here again.

Avoid Kal Tire Chinook like the plaque! I am 73 years old and have never had such a bad experience with a manager or business. I purchased NOKIAN WRG 3 tires with 80,000 km warranty from Kal. They were worn out at 67,000km and Kal said because of uneven tire wear they would not honor the warranty. The last time I had them rotated there were no issues. read more

I purchased the MicheLin Cross Climate tires from Kal Tire last year. Excellent tires but here is the issue with purchasing them at Kal Tire. In order for the warranty to be valid you must have them rotated from Kal Tire every 10,000 km. This requires booking a 90 minute appointment with them. And when I say 90 minutes it will take exactly 90 minutes! Yesterday I booked my appointment at 2:30 and sat in there COLD waiting room. Observing my car sitting in the parking lot for 30 minutes before it was finally taken into there service Bay. Almost 4:00 and my car was finally done! Upon getting into it.....I noticed the leather door handle on my MDX was dirty and this is obviously done by the mechanics dirty hands or gloves. Not too impressed. Here are some things Kal Tire need to do to improved there customer service. Book appropriate service times that people can live with. Unfortunately, If you only have this one car to use you are forced to wait in a rather COLD waiting room for the work to be done. Secondly the mechanic working on your car should have a little respect for your car and use caution if his hands or boots are dirty getting into your car. Going forward I'm not sure if I would purchased from Kal Tire in the future. Typically I have always purchased tires from my dealership and they can do a tire rotation and an oil change all within 45 minutes! read more

just now NEW This is actually a zero star review, if I could chose minus stars, I would. Went out of town on the weekend and woke up Sunday morning with a flat. Got a 3pm appointment today, showed up about an 10 minutes early. The girl asks me if I'm going to wait and I say yes, she says nothing else. As I sit there for an hour, I hear them telling other people one of their machines is down so they are an hour behind. Would have liked to have known that when I said I would wait. Two hours go by and I'm seeing vehicles arrive after me, and leave. I go up to ask what's going on and there is one girl at the front working on something. She goes in the back and asks for someone to check on my vehicle, three girls com out. Two of them continue chatting with each other while I stand there, and a third girl just stands staring at me until the girl asks her a second time to check on my car. So she says before looking, "well the good news is that we have all the cars in the bays." So I have to inform her that mine is still in the lot, she looks and then tells me in a tone like I had won something, that mine is next. Coming up on hour 3, she comes over and tells me they can't fix my tire because it was driven flat (no it wasn't), and they don't sell the kind of tire on my vehicle. My vehicle is brand new, I picked it up from the dealer just over a week prior. I say, "so your telling me I sat here for over 2 hrs for nothing?" And she tries to explain why it took so long machine down blah blah blah. So I tell her that I've seen other vehicles arrive after me and be done, I heard people say they had appointments at 330, 400 and are gone. She then says, like it justifies the situation, "yeah, your vehicle got overlooked" no apology, nothing. Then she says they are just going to pull my car around. I wait 15 minutes and still no car, so I ask what they are doing given the flat tire was in the trunk and the spare was already on when I brought it. It takes another 10 minutes to come out!! Then I ask for the managers name, she gives me a card for an assistant manager. I have never had such poor service in my life. If someone says they are going to wait, and you know it's going to be at least an hour longer then they think, you have to communicate that! However, listening to these girls talk to the other customers while I sat there for what ended up being 3 hours....it's clear communication is not why any of these ladies were hired. There was another customer who had arrived just after me and his vehicle was still outside, not having been touched when I left. So I guess I wasn't the only one overlooked, seems like maybe this company needs a better system when they check in vehicles then just throwing the keys in a plastic thing behind them. read more

I've used this Kal Tire for the past 3-4 years and I have only had good experiences. It doesn't hurt that one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in town (Pho Chu The) is across the street, a perfect spot to grab a bite while your vehicle is getting worked on. Most recently, they had asked if I'd like to see if I needed an alignment while I was in getting winter tires mounted and installed. I told them to check it out and text/call to clear it with me before any work is done. I came back to pick up my vehicle and was told that the service agent missed the note about checking with me first, and was already halfway through performing the alignment (which I could see was needed from the inspection report). They were absolutely professional about it and told me that the confirm was missed on their end, and that they would cover the full cost of the alignment, turning what could've been a bit of a sour spot into a very positive customer experience. I have only had positive experiences here, and will surely keep coming back! read more

I am still on my quest for the perfect winter tire and service. I think I have already made my decision but I did want to include the excellent service and customer attention that I received at Fountain Tire. The service lady was very friendly and I noticed that coffee was on for their clients and the tire shop was immaculate in cleanliness. Although I found that the tires there were slightly more expensive than other competitive outlets, she did assure me that if she didn't have the tires in stock there, she could get them in another location in the city within hours. She fed me all this information while printing specs for two tire grades that I asked about. I hadn't asked for these, but I did want them, so this insight plus her business card if I needed any other question, ranks Fountain at 4 stars. They also have a great winter tune up special at $75 that will check all transmission lubricants and top them off and basically will get your car ready for the winter. read more

Like most customer's now a days I am fed up with the lack of customer service and I'm not staying silent any longer, that being said I will not be rude or talk down to people in this industry as that will get you nowhere and just produce's bad energy on an already bad situation. Back in April I was very dissatisfied with the service I received from this Kal-Tire, as I stated previously I reported this to their head office as well as posting on Yelp hoping that someone would hear what I was saying and hopefully this would be resolved. I received a call a couple of days later from the Manager (Mike Butcher), turns out that the gentleman I spoke to that day was not actually the manager but one of the assistant managers........I expressed my concern for the lack of service and poor communication provided by his employees, and being that I was new to Calgary I was unsure as to if I would ever return to his location. He apologized for the situation and compensated me with a free wheel alignment, which I really did not expect. Most companies will just apologize and that's it, Mike went above and provided outstanding customer service and made a upset customer very happy. Will I return to Kal-Tire??? Well as long as the customer service stay's at the level it is supposed to be absolutely! Thanks Mike. read more

I was really disappointed with the service at the Chinook location. I booked to have my winter tires installed 3 weeks in advance. I was told it would take up to 1.5hours and I arrived on time for the appointment. I checked in with agent to confirm that they were running on time. I returned 1.5 hours later and my car was not ready. I waited another half hour and I mentioned to the agent that I was disappointed. There was no apology but was told I need to be prepared for a 2 hour. When I said I may not return to this location with my business, her response was "you can do that too". read more

We booked an appointment and went to have our tires swapped for winter and they completely forgot about the appointment (after we had checked in, given them the keys, etc.). We had to reschedule the appointment for another day, and we told them that out timing would be tight for a date they had set the new appointment for. When we showed up for the second appointment, reminding them again that our timing is tight, we waiting for over an hour and half and they had not taken our car to have the tires swapped. We did not book another appointment. Avoid this location, unbelievably unprofessional. read more

In mid February I hit a pot hole and which caused a flat tire. Got my car towed to the Kal Tire location on Macleod Tr. The first phone quote they gave me was a simple rim replacement ($85 quote). They were going to call me back about an hour later for an ETA of when the repair would be finished. About 2 hours later I still hadn't received a call back so I rang them up. Apparently the guy had forgot to call me before he went to lunch. The new person I was talking to had some bad news for me. After getting the car up on the lift, they discovered that the other front tire was going to need replacing soon and that it's rim was in rough shape as well. My $85 quote just went up to $400+. I've been around cars long enough, so although I wasn't happy, I completely understood. After telling them to go ahead with the repair, the only thing I asked from the person was to keep the one ok tire they were replacing on it's rim and I would use it as a spare. I was told to pop down around 3:30 to pick up my car. I showed up around 3:45 and was surprised when I was told that it wasn't ready yet. Apparently they were still waiting for my rims. Not a biggie as I know this stuff happens. Well by about 4:30 when my rims still weren't there, I have to admit I was getting impatient. I decided to ask what was taking so long and was told once again that my rims weren't there. I asked at the right time because the other person on duty said they had showed up around 3:45 (when I had originally walked in). Mistakes like this happen so once again I wasn't too upset. At any rate, they got my new tires and rims put on and I was on my way. Now here's why my rating is as low as it is because based on the , it deserves to be a 2 or 3 star rating (plus the staff were honestly super friendly and as helpful as they could be). 2 months later I go out to my car and notice that my passenger front is flat (this was the tire and rim they recommended I replace). I use my air compressor to fill it and take it to the buddy to patch the leak. The second we get it up on the lift I notice something familiar. The rim is my old rim. I know this because I remember the green smudge on it from when I had originally bought it. When I check the spare, there is no rim to be found. Basically I got charged for a new rim that I never received. Now I'm not implying that this was done on purpose. Mistakes do happen. But this mistake will now cost me another rim, which I will not be buying from Kal Tire. read more

Never have we been treated as poorly as when we picked up a nail in our front tire while assisting Seniors to the Health Clinic (We do Volunteer Work). The tire was leaking rapidly so we quickly pulled into Kal Tire at Chinook Centre. The Sales Representative rudely informed me if they were to fix the tire we would have to leave our vehicle overnight, as they were super busy, unless I wanted to replace the tire with a new one for apprx. $200 they could install within the hour! I told him I had a Mini-Van full of Seniors & just needed to fix my flat as soon as possible & my existing flat tire was purchased only a year ago with only about 10,000 km on it & lots of tread left. He told me that was my problem & suggested I proceed down MacLeod Trail & take my business elsewhere, because again, they are too busy. SO I DID.....I will never go back! read more

Without question, this is the biggest cast of "hump ya and dump ya" service. No intent of building a professional relationship with clients; instead, looking for a quick sale and an F off at the end of the transaction. Here we go: I went to get tires mounted on rims for my vehicle. Midsize pickup truck, standard light truck tire on steel winter rims. I got there when they opened, was treated well and was on my way. Picked the truck up in the evening and was told that since I had low profile tires, mounting was to cost an extra $25 per tire. I said I did not have low pro tires and they waived the fee immediately. Flag #1. Got home, unloaded the old wheels from the back and realized they only gave me 1 of 4 hubcaps back. No biggie, I'd call the next day to find them. Flag #2. They said hubcaps were stored together, so I went to get them. Stood out front for 15 mins while these goofs looked in the same spot for these missing specimens. I had to run, said "call me when you find them" and never heard from them again. Flag #3. By now, I've wasted an hour of my time trying to fix their mistake. Called tonight and spoke to a guy who said he'd go look for them right away. Put me on hold for 25 mins, never to be heard of again. Called back and was asked if I would hold. I said no, I was just on hold for 25mins and ignored, so I'm not willing to hold. I get "well, we're really busy so you're going to have to hold." Clearly not being a busy guy, I said forget this and will now go meet with the manager. Regardless, they've lost my respect, recommendation, trust and hubcaps. If you're looking for prime location from Glenmore Trail, this is it. If you're looking for a massive headache, lost parts, and no accountability, this is also it. Wouldn't recommend this place to my enemy, let alone internet strangers. Manager doesn't care, staff don't care and I'll never support another Kal Tire if this level of performance is deemed acceptable. read more

STAY AWAY. where do I begin: 1- super rude on the phone and even worse in person. not helpful at all. very condescending. 2- most expensive tire replacement in Alberta. quote Vs. final invoice over 20% every time. 3- time management is a huge problem, they don't respect customers time at all. 1 hour means next day. 4 - terrible selection, best tire brands they don't carry. i guess the profit margin is too low for them. just overall horrible experience , would not recommend them to my enemies. read more

Took my car in to get a flat repaired. I needed new tires which wouldn't be available until the next day. I had three hubcaps, one of which was on the flat. They took my flat off and put the donut on. They would have removed that hubcap leaving me with two on the vehicle. I drove less than 2 kms home and parked it there overnight. The next morning I dropped my car off, had the work done and when I picked it up I still only had two hubcaps. I went in to see what happened to the third and was told that I was mistaken and I only had one hubcap to begin with. I asked to speak to the manager, with whom I was already speaking. He was adamant that I was wrong and refused to admit that I had three hubcaps. The hubcap was in poor condition and likely broke on removal, which would have been fine had they just been up front about it. Instead they said nothing, hoped I wouldn't notice and then refused to do anything about it. It is because of the way the manager Bash handled the situation that I will NEVER use Kal Tire for anything ever again. I urge you to use one of the many nearby tire shops instead. I've been recommended Urban Tire on Horton road instead. read more

We had bad service multiple times in the same week for two different vehicles. There's not enough space to write all that went wrong. Long story short, in the end they were disorganized, dishonest and the manager was pompous and arrogant to the point where we had a stand off and essentially assumed that everything I was saying was made up to get $50 out of them...and then one of the original people I dealt with called up and confirmed my story. He had to back down and apologize, but it was too late. There shouldn't be that much that could go wrong with installing tires when that's your dedicated business, but they buggered up every aspect including booking appointments, doing it in a timely manner and technically doing it right. In the end, the manager tried to blame me for their incompetence. He tried to reimburse a small fee, but I was too angry and walked out....it wasn't about the money. They are so busy this time of year, they don't care if there are few bad exchanges. read more

Beware.....People need to know this. Long story, here is the short version. Engine light came on in my car so took to Kal Tire Chinook and was told that the rear left oxygen censor needed to be replaced and after some research found out what that part was.....ANYWAY...Kal Tire quote for part was $587.00 and said that was the quote from dealership, so called dealership their quote to me was $251.00. Apparently, industry practice there could be a little market (okay) but a $330.00 mark-up. I think not. So after calling Kal Tire on this, they now what me to bring my car back in so that a senior tech can re-test the findings....Hummm. Maybe, cause I'm a woman...pulling a fast one (not Sure). Point is do research. On my car there are 4 oxygen censors 2 front and 2 back...back ones are much cheaper. The are like a spark plug. Hope this helps someone. read more

Took my truck to Kal Tire by the Chinook mall for some new tires. They said I needed a new water pump and rear shock. An extra $1500. I skipped on the shock and decided on the pump because I have a long drive to Ontario coming up. My vehicle was not overheating before, nor did I notice a problem but I trusted the mechanic... I literally drove my truck 20 km after picking it up from Kal Tire when it overheated and began spraying coolant everywhere. I had it towed back to the shop at 10 am the following day and had to call twice to find out what was going on. The first time they told me my truck was just going into the shop. At closing time I called back and was told they weren't able to get to my vehicle today... You would think after screwing up my truck they would at least make it a priority to get it fixed right away! read more

I started my quest to purchase new winter tires, along with new wheels and sensors. I investigated 4 companies, and found, for exactly the same tires etc..Kal tire was the lowest bid, and that is including tire storage. Ten days ahead, I confirmed with them what I needed. My tires etc were ordered, and on the appointment date brought in my car and they were finished in 1 and half hours. Brought the car back the next day for re-torquing..which is normal, and it was complete in 5 minutes. The service was excellent, and I will be back as they include free swapping of my winter to snow tires etc. Thank you KalTire Chinook!! read more

By far the worst mechanical/tire experience I have had in 34 years. Poorly managed, disorganized, and dishonest. They couldn't even change my tire without damaging my car. Then they tried profit off of me repairing the damages. I had the damages fixed elsewhere and should have taken the losers to court. read more

worst 2nd time experience ever. I had it booked for a Friday afternoon, waited for couple of hours only to find out they were out of stock of winter tires. Rebooked it for Monday afternoon. Guess what happened? Yup, told me to they were out of stock again. This time making me wait 3 hours. All i got in return was "sorry, we can reschedule you again" lol. Obviously, I decided to go elsewhere. Sad part was they did not make any attempts to stop me from leaving nor did they offer any compensation for the time loss. *sigh* read more

Took my car in with low pressure in one tire. Was very impressed when they had that tire patched and re-did a patch in another tire that the dealership had done within an hour at no charge. Was less impressed when the next morning the same tire was low again. Went back, after another hour picked up my car when it was sitting in the parking lot with the trunk open. It's an SUV so leaving the trunk open provides access to the entire vehicle. Was told they had removed a screw from the tire and patched it. When I expressed my concern about the trunk being left open and the screw not being removed the previous day the salesperson didn't take responsibility or have any good answers. I think it is really funny that people procrastinate until the first snowfall in Calgary to get their winter tires on, and expect flawless cutomer service as well as to be looked after right away. That being said, The guys at Chinook Kal Tire took such good care of me. They had my tires and wheels available, I originally did not want my tires put on, as they needed my car to stay over night and I just could not make it work. I went to pick up my tires and they put my tires on super fast right then and there. The staff working were super funny and really pleasant, even though they were swamped and working extra long hours because of everyone in Calgary frantically deciding thy need their winter tires NOW! (Myself included). PS, go with factory studded Nokian's. You will love them. read more

I have dealt with the Kal Tire at the Chinook mall a couple of times and everyone is extremely helpful. I called there today to get an appointment to have my winter tires put on, I am travelling to Revelstoke tomorrow and just remember I need my winter tires on. They told me they have no openings until November; but suggested I come as soon as I can and they will do their best to get me in. I dropped my car off at 8:30am and they called by 1:30 and said they finished the work already. Unfortunately have to give 0 stars for the service. Called in to see about being squeezed in for an appointment and was told there was a slot available but had to be there in 15 minutes. That was no problem. Upon my arrival, not a single employee had any memory of my call and no appointment was made. Disappointing, but was told that they would get done. My service included having 2 tires changed over and balanced, no mounting on any vehicle, just the tires had to be switched. Dropped the tires off at 2:30 and was told they would be done by 6. When I came back to pick up, they hadn't even started and told me they would be done now by 6:30 because there was someone else in front of me. Absolutely ludicrous for the price. Horrible customer service and organization. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

never go to Fountain Tire Fairmount SE. they broke all 4 of our wheel caps which cost more than $200 to replace, and they will not admit the damage they caused. the excuse were, oh they were broken when we took them off, yeah right! how come they never fell of the wheel in the past 10 years? very poor mechanic and even worse business ethic. it costs us $975 to change the tires, now we have to pay another $200 to fix their mistake. Almost charged for alignment that was never completed. Would rate 0/5 if possible. I had dropped our vehicle off for an alignment. When we went to pick it up around the time they said it would be done we called to see if it was ready, the Kal tire associate advised it had not been taken in yet to be worked on, which was no big deal as we knew they were busy so we waited in the waiting area (only 10 mins from time we called to the time we reached the waiting room). On our way in we had seen where the car was parked and could see it from the waiting room. We waited for another half hour and the vehicle had not moved, so I went to the counter to ask roughly when the vehicle would be ready. They advised us that it was.....ODD as it had not moved the entire time we were there and it took us no more then 10 mins to get to the shop after making the phone call when they told us that it had not gone in yet. It does not take less than 10 mins to run an alignment and besides it had been snowing the last couple hours so it was obvious the vehicle had not moved from where it was parked. I asked if they were sure, they said yes, I asked again and was about to explain when the associate cut me off as he was agitated and asked me why I was questioning him. I responded that I had been sitting there the last half hour and the vehicle had not moved, so yes, I was questioning the fact that it was done. The associate went to the back to check and no it had not been done. We then took the vehicle and went elsewhere. It had me curious as to how often this happens there? We will NEVER go back to this Kal tire on Macloed again. read more

I went to the Kal Tire in marlborough.I simply wanted a flat repair on one of my tires, & was ready willing & able to pay for it.I should say at this point that the tire in question was NOT purchased from Kal Tire.I took my car in at around 9 am on a saturday, & then phoned them about 12 pm, knowing a flat repair usually takes LESS than 1/2 an hour, & they said it was not ready yet.I phoned again at 2 pm & again was told it was not ready, so I asked what the ETA on the flat repair would be, & I was told I would be able to pick it up at 5 pm.Thinking maybe they were very busy I gave them the benefit of the doubt.I went in at 5 PM & STILL my flat repair was not ready, & I was told it would be complete in about 20 minutes.40 minutes later they finally had it done.I asked how much for the repair, & then the manager started telling me about the condition of my motor, & brake fluid, & oil & transmission, & then proceeded to tell me the flat repair would be free since I was a new customer.I thanked him, then drove my car home & parked it.The very next morning I went to go somewhere & the tire they had repaired was flat.In retrospect, I wish they HAD charged me something for the flat repair, because as the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for" & since I paid nothing, that is what I got, aside from a whole lot of wasted time & vehicle diagnostics that I didnt want & never asked for. read more
