Charming old world service in Puerto Vallarta. The Vienna inspired restaurant has wonderful food you don't expect to find in a Mexican beach town. Dine inside if you want but we prefer the sidewalk Cafe tables for people watching. We like posh dinners there but also leisurely breakfasts. One of our favorite places to dine in the city.

We had a great time - the food, drinks, service, and ambiance were all wonderful. We had the octopus appetizer, the veal with mushroom sauce, and the red snapper with fennel sauce. The veal was probably the best of those three. For drinks, we had the aviator, the lychee martini, and the Greek coconut martini for desert. The lychee martini was maybe the best lychee drink I've had and I always order lychee drinks when they're available.

Amazing eats and great service. Each course was better than the last. Luis made our dining experience exceptional. We've passed this restaurant several times, even glanced at the menu but our palates were not adequately prepared for the artistic, mouth-watering dishes we were served. This will be one of our stops anytime we're back in PV. Highly recommend!!

Amazing! The best meal in PV. Excellent, old school professional service and top notch food. We split the cabbage soup, ravioli, veal, and the peach crepe dessert. The lychee martinis were wonderful and we had some great wine from valley de Guadalupe. Luis was absolutely wonderful. I had the best date night ever. I highly recommend for anyone looking for the perfect and authentic dinner

It's the perfect old world European restaurant in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Lots of old room ambience and class. I love the red glasses and the plates on the table with red flowers when we first arrived. Our Caesar salad, which we split, was perfectly prepared and just the right amount. My cue royale was one of the first. I've been able to find anywhere in a while, and I savored it! I ordered crabcakes and my husband ordered veal scallopini. I remember when I was in cooking school they told me to test an Italian restaurant you should always have the veal scallopini! It's a good test because it only takes seconds to cook it and minutes to ruin it. My husband was somewhere in between. The sauce was lovely, but the veal was a little over cooked, He said he enjoyed the twice cooked potato more than anything else. The presentation was beautiful, but the taste was not quite as good. My crabcake presentation was perfect plating, but far from perfect taste. The onions very, very slimly sliced on top, we're beautiful, but would it tasted a lot better if they were warm and not cold and chewy. I really wasn't sure what they were at first. The crabcake itself was just OK as it was highly breaded, and I really couldn't even taste the crab. I ate most of it, but it was not exceptional. The wait staff is very formal and proper and everything about service was perfect. I just wish the food is was a lot tastier. I heard so much about it, I was really excited about having dinner there, and I was not disappointed by the ambience or the service .This is one of the few times I have to say that the food looked a lot better than it tasted.

The food was great. We sat on the sidewalk and had a great waiter. I got some apple juice to drink, a cinnamon roll and ranchero eggs for my meal. They also brought out complementary toast. My eggs were well cooked and they came with beans, potatoes, avocado, and a slice of tomato. A filling meal. The food was great and they take cards here. Would definitely go here again.

I have enjoyed many dinners in this restaurant always with exceptional service. The lunch yesterday was disappointing for the multiple reasons: upon arriving with my 3 guests at 2pm, we were not greeted nor was my reservation acknowledged. We were told by a bar employee to sit anywhere we desired. Without a hostess or waiter to greet us, we made a decision and seated ourselves. A middle aged man eventually came to our table. He was disheveled and without the normal uniform. His shirt was untucked & was wearing a soiled apron. We agreed he must be a kitchen staff rather than a waiter. It seemed a 2pm lunch lacked the regular staffing. I ordered a bottle of wine at a price of 750 pesos but upon arriving at our table, I noticed it wasn't what I had ordered. I questioned the price: he replied 1350 pesos. Nope! Sent it back. When our food arrived, we had to ask for napkins and knives as we noticed the table had not been appropriately set. Service was non existent albeit the food remained high quality as I had always enjoyed. In summary: I will never return for a lunch but will remain a loyal dinner customer. Sadly, It was obvious to us, the restaurant only started gearing up for staffing at 4pm. Appetizers and entrees and 2 bottles of wine for 4 (including gratuity) $320. USD. See photos of out food choices. 5 stars for food. 3 stars for poor service.
We've been here before and we've had good results before today. I was disappointed today. I ordered a shrimp poor boy and there were fried shrimp in the poor boy as you would expect. However the tails were still on the shrimp, something that's never happened to me before and something I find very disappointing. I brought it to the attention of the manager and they said oh sorry but didn't adjust the bill. read more
This review is based on first impressions because we only ordered takeout pastry and morning coffee. We were staying at an AirBnB just up the hill from the downtown. I noticed this small-ish cafe/restaurant the day before because it's traditional elegance and old world vibe (think Paris) immediately stand out. The sidewalk cafe is lovely and the interior dining room is surprisingly chic, understated and formal. I found the whole vibe utterly charming and delightfully out of step with the surrounding neighborhood. Better yet, my pastry (kind of a pain aux raisins without the currants) was exceptionally tender, buttery and flakey. And my latte was smooth, creamy and mild. Having this experience alone, I would definitely come back for lunch or dinner. read more
It's a wonderful, formal restaurant. We felt underdressed but decided to try it anyway. The food was outstanding--my duck confit salad was award worthy and satisfying. My husband's filet mignon received high praise as well. I didn't enjoy their lemony take on an Old Fashioned cocktail, but I should have read the accurate description and ordered my whiskey neat. My husband's mojito was tasty. We found it overly air conditioned and were longing to sit outside. The service was professional but lacked the charm and warm of our other dining experiences in Puerto Vallarta. I understand why people applaud this restaurant, but the atmosphere is not for me. read more

All the stars! Briggitte was a friendly and attentive server. We had lunch before going to the airport. The onion soup was amazing. The star of the meal was the Austria burger it was incredible. It's not a hamburger it's Austrian and it was epic. The sandwiches also very good. read more

We've been looking forward to eating here every year for the past 20 or so years but unfortunately things have changed. Since the original Bavarian owner sold out, the food has changed a bit while the service remains excellent. Ambiance, service and a classic European setting made for a nice dinner and a nice breakfast but..... the red cabbage soup isn't as creamy and perhaps has too many crunchy prosciutto bits and a dumpling which pales in comparison to years past. Caesar salad was solid and well presented. The veal schnitzel was a bit smaller and dryer than in the past al the cranberry sauce remains great. We ordered spaetzle over potatoes and weren't disappointed in their texture or flavor. The duck came in slices vs. the half duck we were used to. It did have great flavor but dark meat lovers may be disappointed. The sides were tasty and bread delicious. Our drinks were great and service was unrushed and allowed us to savor our meal. Breakfast was also a bit disappointing with my omelette having more ham than egg which was unusual. Additionally my potatoes came out after I had finished my eggs. The Kaiserschmarm lacked in presentation and was a bit mushy in the middle. Coffee was excellent but no refills were offered. Service in the morning was by an indifferent lady who was disappointing. Things change with time and unfortunately this establishment is no longer my Favorite Place in the world to eat..... I will still return, albeit with lower expectations but for a wonderful meal. read more

Service food ambiance nothing missing Michael was very attentive and food was so flavorful
We have walked by Kaiser Maximillian for 30 years and never stepped inside. What a mistake on our part. We had a great meal here. Thomas Stattler Gruner Veltliner, $1280. Very good. Johanneshof Reinisch Pinot Noir $1480. OK. Warm bread and butter. Ensalada César with potato croutons. Beautiful and delicious. Ravioli - fabulous flavors. Ravioli with fennel, prosciutto, mushrooms in an incredible cream sauce. Rack of lamb - awesome. Rich lamb with a silky demiglace. Apple strudel and sacher cake. Coffee and Liquor 43. ++ service - impeccable + music - soft jazz + cloth napkins + tablecloths + hefty flatware + elegant atmosphere $4869 for dinner for 2, inc propina read more

Puerto Vallarta has some wonderful restaurants! This is usually one of our favorites, but we were a bit disappointed last night. The new preparation of the foie gras was not very good. The marinade completely overwhelmed the flavor, My Leg of veal was absolutely fantastic. The meat was incredibly tender, and flavorful; the vegetables were perfect, and the sauce was outstanding. We also very much enjoyed the creamed spinach..... The most disappointing was the Rahmschnitzel. The pork medallions were cooked to the consistency of flip-flop soles, and the noodle side was just odd. This used to be one of my favorite dishes. Sometimes change is not for the best. As always, the service was excellent. Louis Took wonderful care of us. The ambience isvery nice and the prices are reasonable. read more

This was one of our favorite restaurants in Puerto Vallarta but this is not the same restaurant as before. Service was great, food horrible. All the entries were dry and over cooked. The salad was served on warm plates, the bread was day old. The only dish that was good was the french onion soup. We were a party of eight that left hungry and went down the street for tacos after this awful dinner. The new owner better take note and step up his game. Too many amazing restaurants in this town he is competing with. read more

We didn't have to venture far from our hotel Playa Los Arcos to find breakfast this was next door. I almost didn't stop because it was so close and that would have been a mistake especially since it turns out it was there last day before they closed for 6 weeks. (The owners take a vacation every ten years) No Mexican coffee here since they are an expression bar but I settled for a cappuccino and the best egg white omelette on my entire trip which is hard to find in PVR. read more

We always look forward to visiting PV + enjoying a meal at Kaiser Maximillian. We reserve Kaiser Maximillian as our last night in town special dinner after celebrating my birthday dinner there last year. The service provided by Luis is top notch. It's always great to see + catch up with Luis, so much so it feels like seeing an old friend. Food was even better than we remembered. We forgot what we ordered last year, and went with the ravioli appetizer, beef tenderloin with gorgonzola sauce and veal scalloppini. Coffee in this town is delicious, and I heartily enjoyed the coffee here with our meal and desserts. read more

I came here and spoke with Jesus / Chewy to let him know that I wanted to have my anniversary dinner here, then asked if they could do a little something extra. He said yes, that they could do a desert that said happy anniversary so I booked the reservation. I'm not going to say that the meal is what led me to propose that night, though it definitely didn't hurt. My now fiance had the beef with gorganzola sauce, and I had the Veil with mushroom sauce. Both entrees were great. We both used the bread to wipe the plates clean because we were dressed nice and licking plates is usually looked down upon. Especially when your table faces the street. The presentation is great and the food is even better. You can see the pictures I posted of the meals and the desert. If you hate delicious food, stay away. If you want to go to a gem in PV, this us the place. Ask for Senor Chewy. Thank you amigo! read more

Satisfactory. Would NOT come back. Service (2/5). Was subpar. Started out nice enough with the German looking gentleman (owner?) taking us to the extended area of the restaurant. Our waiter was very fleeting, just present enough for us to not call for him. The food came out 10 minutes later which was surprising but I can understand prepping certain ingredients if only everything tasted accordingly. I think the waiter saved his charm for larger parties with bigger bils. The bread came after the dinner meao was already on the table. I ordered both, a beer and wine with dinner but barely had time to take a few sips before dinner was upon us. It seems like they are rushing to free the tables up for future patrons. Food (3/5). Veal scallopini - warm, average. Came with a side of potato and creamed spinach. Overall, not bad but the spinach a bit undercooked. Scallops - decent. Side of sweet potato mash - ok. Ambiance (3.5/5). Nice decor for Puerto Vallarta. White cloth table. Christmas music. Mood lighting and lively but not loud conversation (it IS loud in the main part of the restaurant) Price to Value: (2/5). Way over priced for what it offers. I've been to Austria and Germany and despite tempered expectations, quite underwhelmed. Better restaurants all around. read more

Hidden gem! International cuisine! From Mexican Flan to Red Beet Soup to Escargot pie! Michelin quality food! Thank you Jesus and all the waiter's at Maximilian's especially the CHEF's!! Each course was incredibly delicious with great presentation. Friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable staff. Loved sitting outside with the strolling singers and great for people watching. White tablecloths with candles glowing and fresh flowers at each table. Easy access with plenty of seating inside and out. Charming atmosphere and great ambience for a romantic evening. Great dinner but I hear the breakfast menu is incredible too with Omelette's, Burrito's and Crepes! For our dinner we shared an authentic Caesar Salad that was crisp and fresh with just the right amount of dressing and had the most delicious Steak in Bernaise sauce with scalloped potatoes for our entree! The steak was cooked perfectly to our liking and loved loved the potatoes. Cocktails were great and the wine list was extensive with moderately priced wines! For dessert we had their mouth watering Flan with creme and raspberry sauce! All in all a very delicious meal and oh so satisfying to the palette! 5 Stars!! We loved it so much we went back the next night for the Flan and loved seeing our great waiter's who remembered us and welcomed us with open arms! Me quiero! Gracias! Gracias Jesus! Gracias Chef! read more

Very authentic Austrian food! Very homey and hospitable atmosphere and the food is to die for. Nice change from the delicious Mexican food that is abundant in PV. I always get the schnitzel with cabbage and potatoes (request the mushroom gravy!) Again, it's unorthodox being in Mexico, eating European food, but after 3 years of my partner begging me to go, I caved in. And it was so worth it. Give it a try! You won't be disappointed. read more
