My partner participated in a men's basketball league at the Kaimuki Recreation Center and I was absurd by their ridiculous rules and regulations. There was a supposedly rule in this particular men's league in which in no shape or form can a basketball player touch the backboard. However, the officials were unaware of this rule as well and it was not enforced. The gym director and the woman running the league, Amber were the only one that aware of this rule. We had an email forwarded to us advising that once a player slaps the backboard, either a $15 fee is assessed or he could get kicked out of the league. Upon notification, my partner was aware of the rule and obeyed. However, on a particular play going up for the layup, his knuckles grazed the backboard and the gym director immediately kicked him out of the game and the league. partner He did not slap the backboard nor hit it intentionally In the previous game, another player slapped the backboard and he just got a warning. The gym director (don't know her name) was very unprofessional during the event by yelling. How ridiculous! Only in Hawaii, no dunking is allowed in a men's league, now it's no touching the backboard whatsoever even when blocking a shot! Our tax money pays for these public gyms and to participate in any men's league, there are fees per team. Warning to all talented basketball players or people who just do it for fun, do NOT participate in any men's basketball leagues at this gym. read more
