Our son came from Ka Waihona o Ka Na'auao in Nanakuli and was a founding student at DreamHouse in…read more6th Grade. DreamHouse was a new PCS (Public Charter School). DreamHouse focuses on leadership and identity development, place-based learning, cultural and community engagement, and other approaches that we value. The school was completely bootstrapped for the first few years. After a short time, DreamHouse has secured two fixed property campuses, one for Middle School and one for High School. We have been listening carefully to our son over the years. He just completed 11th Grade and will be part of the first graduating class. He and his classmates have been learning and navigating the constant changes alongside the school community. This past year, everything began to crystallize with the opening of DreamHouse Center (the new high school). Our son has continued to grow and thrive. He attributes a great deal of his development to the Coaches (Teachers/Instructional Leaders) of DreamHouse. He has largely been happy with the school and feels highly supported. There is a great deal of freedom, which also comes with high expectations of their character and leadership development. DreamHouse is not a school designed to be an academic powerhouse or a college prep academy. It was designed to produce quality human beings and community leaders (wherever they go) and leave positive footprints in the world they will explore and touch. What's most impressive is that he has had a well-rounded experiential education and developed social and emotional fluency that we believe is critical for success in life. In addition, his confidence grows each year as a result of his increasing competence in assessing situations, thinking critically, solving problems, and learning. As parents, we have been involved with the school since long before the Charter was granted, and our son joined the inaugural class. If we had any doubts, we would have moved him out a long time ago. He's developed strong and meaningful relationships, and so have we. I'll conclude by saying that while DreamHouse is open to everyone, it is not for everyone (students or families). If you are seeking a traditional school, look elsewhere. DreamHouse is a unique environment and culture. If you're willing to participate fully in an innovative and progressive environment focused on immersive development, please visit the school, experience the environment, and engage the Coaches and school leaders in person. Then, decide for yourself and your family. Please send me any questions, I'm always happy to help. Aloha!

The coaches are supportive and guide the student leaders to be independent thinkers and search for solutions themselves. This may be challenging for some but it shows them how higher education institutions teach. DH PCS is training student leaders to be individual learners who seek out the information for themselves. However, there are numerous opportunities for them to obtain help if needed. Innovative teaching with respect and nurturing is what I like the most about DH PCS. My youngest will be starting 6th grade and I'm positive that he will excel there.

I want to start off with how happy we are that our son attends HTA. It was a great choice and big win. We have older children who go to multiple schools and HTA by far has won us over. The atmosphere and the attention that our son received in school is by far the greatest. The one on one with the student and teacher ratio works out great our kindergartener has excelled in so many ways. He's about to move on to first grade and he already can read books and tell time not only digital time but the wall clock which I remember only learning in the 3rd grade back in the day. He is also able to identify the currency (worth of each coin and what each coin is called) We do noticed a BIG difference in our son's confidence level and not being afraid to speak up and present his animal research to his fellow classmates. The teachers and staff are all so supportive and they are always so kind. They know every child just about by name which is great because they can identify each child's presence which is valuable and also for safety reasons. They also address any concerns or issues right away with the child and parents/ guardians. HTA has great staff who is able to provide support to the children and parents/ guardians. We are thankful that we are able to join our son on his class Field Studies. It is a true blessing to be able to have this experience to be able to understand what our child is learning on a daily basis. They have weekly agendas which keeps us organized and on schedule. We hope you enjoyed our first year experience review with HTA. Having a kind and supportive team makes a GREAT difference! So be nice to the staff members they deserve the Best!!

Mostly, I wanted my kids to have a strong foundation in reading, writing, and the basics, and by the end of kindergarten they were reading fluently. They are writing more and more, and I like that the teachers actually take the time to correct their grammar as well, even at a young age. It's important to me that they won't get sent back a grade if we move back to the mainland. Luckily, I don't think they will! OLPH isn't the most high-tech school in the world, but they do have computer classes. They also offer Spanish classes, karate, basketball, and volleyball, plus a range of other things. Each year, kids can compete in the science fair and spelling bee. From the different school events I've attended, it seems that there is good student morale from all the kids, grades K-8. I feel like the teachers and staff are very dedicated to their students, and they expect involvement from the parents as well. The day-to-day administration is very meticulous and the school is well organized over all. They are strict with behavior but it leads to good self-discipline for the kids, and it's a very loving environment. The before and after care held at the school is convenient for working parents, and the cost of tuition plus the extended care is about what I was paying at Kama'aina kids, so the transition wasn't too bad at all. It's worth checking out if you live in Ewa!

The first year at Corvid was a struggle because he needed to catch up to his grade level and stay current with all other subjects. He finished the year not only testing at his grade level for Math, but excelling and surpassing his grade level in other subjects. Our son is now a High School Junior at Corvid Academy. He is on his way to graduating next year! Not only has he been able to excel in his studies, he also has the opportunity to gain public speaking, power point presentations and teaching skills. The highlight of his experience at Corvid Academy has been his participation in the amazing yearly Theater Productions. Through the direction of Ms. Shannon Sofa, Corvid Academy has put on spectacular full production musical plays such as "West Side Story". Our son has played major roles in "Grease" and "Disney". They students are now working on the biggest production yet...."Newsies"! I would have never thought that our son would act, sing and dance,be on a big stage, and learn backstage production! Performing has become his passion! We are very happy with Corvid Academy. We are grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Sofa for creating this amazing school. Being placed in that school was probably the best thing that my parents could have done for me. I'm not gonna lie and say that going to that school was a perfect experience, because it wasn't. When I first started, I was supposed to be placed in 5th grade, but due to low testing scores was placed a year back. I had a terrible problem with math first coming Corvid. I was a 4th grader who couldn't do simple subtraction, but through numerous one-on-one time with Mr. Johnathan (a teacher at the time) and Mrs. Sofa, I eventually got the hang of it. They took my strength, reading comprehension, and wrote out instructions on how to do it for me to read it and I got it! They then began to do this for each of my math difficulties. I stayed there for the rest of my grades and slowly but surely got caught back up. It was not easy, there were times when I fell behind and thought that I should just give up, but I can guarantee tell you that the teachers do NOT give up on you. No matter how difficult you may be. There were times where I wasn't a good student and I did some things, but they never turned their back on me. Mrs. Sofa cares so much about her students and she wants to see each and every one succeed, even hard-headed students like myself. I believe that I was a junior in High school when Mrs. Sofa and I had a personal talk about what I should do after High School. She suggested that since I wasn't as strong in Math, that I should become an English teacher. She was always telling me how good I was with my English skills and comprehension, so I really took that to heart. She was not the only one who really made an impact on me. Mrs. Shannon also did. She's like a big sister (or even a mom) to me. She's always be there for me to talk to when I felt like I couldn't talk to anyone. She was always there to make sure that I was on track to graduating and when I fell behind she made sure to get me caught up. She made countless schedules and made sure I kept up with them and helped me with the hard lessons. She's also the very one who brought musical theater into my life. She really believed in me and cast me as "Anita" in the production of "West Side Story", "Rizzo" in "Grease", and even the lead of Peter Pan in "Disney Enchanted Dreams." She worked constantly with me on each role. From rolling my r's to becoming more young-boy-like, she was there constantly helping me to perfect my singing and acting. Then there was also Ms. Mary, she's the High School TA, I have to give her props. She's always their making sure we know what we have to be on, and she's always updating our weekly lists so that we don't get behind. Even if we do get behind, she's always there to help make a list to get us back on track. She's aIso an amazing confidant to talk to. I've had a lot of talks and vents with her, and she gives amazing advice that I always take to heart. I will forever be grateful for everything that Corvid has done for me and I will never forget the memories that I made here. I'm currently at Leeward Community College and getting my associates in Secondary Teaching. I hope to transfer to a 4-year-college after my 2 years. I sometimes come by to help out with the kids to get volunteer hours for a college class, and I hope to do more in the future. I like to think of it as giving back to the school for all those years. I don't think I could ever really leave the school, the teachers and faculty have really become like family to me. I credit where I am today to Corvid Academy.

From the beginning of the school year, they should of implement a strategy poll or survey to get a real estimate of interested families that would let their kids go on the trip. The paperwork given on December 9th 2024 shows in the right corner July 2024. I don't understand why something wasn't put together early for parents to have information on it Ex: estimated price it will cost, days traveling and a poll seeing who's interested and who's not for bettering planning. You don't give a Paper December 9th 2024 and the Paper saying First Deposit due December 9th 2024 and when I call to ask why so inconsiderate the excuses are, I had a hard time getting it approved. How is that? When this is a yearly thing. Y'all should of been prepared and well knowledgeable in this department for signing up successfully or is it thrown to random people to sign up and when paperwork is wrong after multiple attempts you only then realized it's giving a shorter time for parents to be notified. Y'all failed to give Information about this trip or estimated prices of cost or how many days of travel. All that was given last minute with a hurry up and pay today or the next day and you wonder why only 30 kids can go because y'all didn't properly prepare this field trip. It's unacceptable and I wonder how many years y'all been unprepared doing this and waiting last minute to give information when y'all should of alerted parents immediately about the field trip in August when school started and gave monthly updates for progress moving forward. It would of given more kids a opportunity and parents the chance for letting them go especially when you plan better and plan ahead. The school should have someone that works there that does the paper yearly so they know how it should be prepared correctly, so that it can get approved immediately and not after several attempts and make it a smooth transition for everyone getting information early.

All three of our children are thriving academically and socially. They are all very active on the competitive swim team, hula, ballet, martial arts and voice lessons, all offered at school! I grew up attending a school with about 25-30 students in a classroom so I know what it's like, and I didn't like it. The smaller class sizes is the perfect fit for what we're looking for. A more customizable education tailored for each child's potential. Seeing how much talent has been produced from this small school makes me hold ARA up on a pedestal. We want to give our kids the best opportunity and ARA offers all we can ask for. If you are considering this school for your child, I recommend giving them a call. We're so happy we did!
