Front desk ladies are better than any other schools! My kids first day was a mess for me.. and one…read moreof the ladies went above and beyond and helped me to both my children's classrooms. We originally had my daughter enrolled in two different private schools that accepted her. We couldn't make up our mind on sending her to these really expensive schools. Of course, any parent wants their children to have the best education and that's all we strived for. It was a big dip in our bank account, we felt it was worth it. Nearing the end of summer, we backed down. We remembered how tough it was having both our children on different schedules. Our daughter was in Kamehameha preschool and our son at Royal Elementary (public school). We struggled finding someone to babysit for two different schedules. Yes, private schools do have more "off days". On days that we couldn't find a sitter, we would have our daycare as our back up. Being that private school this year was literally 3/4 our savings, we didn't think we had cushion to constantly send the kids to daycare if we couldn't find a babysitter. So we made the decision to have her in the same school as brother who is in enrolled in SPED. Our fears of robbing our child's education began. She didn't have as much homework as Kamehameha Preschools gave out, which may be a thumbs up for most parents. I actually enjoyed homework time with her. But we still do other things to make up for it. I do see a small decline in her academic interest but, were working on getting her back up. We can't rely solely on the school. The big 5 star review goes out to my sons SPED Preschool class: Ms. Angela and his teacher aide, Vanessa! Amazing, amazing, amazing people with beautiful souls! They truly do their best to help improve all my sons needs! It's been maybe a month in school and my boy is improving so much. I owe it all to these awesome ladies and his therapists! I warned them of my sons lack of immunity due to his condition, and they amaze me at how prepared they are. They sanitize everything a child touches and cleanliness is a must in this class. This schools SPED preschool was actually full at the time of admission, however, due to some personal issues with another school, the principal at this school accepted my son! I can see why their program was full. I plan to keep my son at this school for all his elementary days. So impressed with the quality of care. I almost cringe at the thought of him entering another classroom. I admire these women for all they are. His teacher, Ms.Angela has an app called Bloomz that allows us to message her about our son and she sends us updates as often as she can. She does her best to do daily updates but we don't expect that as she is a busy lady herself. She shows that she really loves what she does and has a passion for it. These are the teachers that deserve the best pay raise ever! If I was her boss, hands down.. her salary would double! Thank you ladies! Thank you Pearl Harbor for accepting my kids on such short notice!

I get updates via the seesaw app (available on the apple and google store. Why do I feel like an infomercial? ) I swear teachers never sleep, cause updates are between 10pm and 5am. Thank a teacher cause they help shape the future better then some parents. After reading this, I should attend the upcoming PTA meeting. Weekly as parents, our son get a homework assignment sheets. For us Navy folk, very similar to the POW for homework. There is also a monthly reminder/upcoming events sheet. I like this idea cause it helps me plan for events I would like to attend, in this case the last Ohana Fair. This event is an annual fair held on school grounds. It's a great time for kids and for parents to socialize with other parents. The teachers are out and about but mostly concentrating on running the booth. You don't come here for the food, you come for the stories and smiles. TIP: If you go to the annual Fair, parking is limited. Walk or ride a bike to the place. And if you drive, slow down for the small keikis because we know they like to run out between parked cars. Thank a teacher except the ones that teach CORE math?!?!? They confuse the hell out of me. 2+2=4 people!! Lastly if a teacher is reading this, thank you and stop looking for grammar errors. M

Although parking lot is one-way, it provides good (and safer) traffic flow and less school congestion. A/C buildings (except cafeteria), ample industrial bike racks in different areas, water fountain with bottle-filling station, all aspects of the school are very clean and well-maintained. I have zero complaints about their education system either. My son hasn't struggled (to the point of exhaustion) and fight me on homework. His teacher is always available to provide extra help should he need it. Lots of field trips allows students to gain knowledge outside of school property and create more fun memories. Very, VERY happy parent here! Mahalo to all faculties of this school for always providing excellency!

At the beginning of the Covid, they decided to go with the very controversial online platform called Acellus which included racial and biased information not appropriate for learning, and Pearl Harbor Kai did nothing but to keep using it although other nearby schools immediately decided to drop the program. The principal at that time had no intention to listen to concerned parents, but now he is promoted to some position at DOE. How bright is Hawaii's DOE future? I can say there are a few wonderful teachers there if your child get lucky. Unfortunately, my child never had that luck and he was assigned the most notorious teacher that is known to yell and scream hysterically beyond being strict two years in a row. When I confronted, Principal and VP said they never heard anyone complain about that teacher nor heard her yell, which was flat out lie. I know of more than two hands full of families who left the school to homeschool, avoided the school and chose private school path because of the teacher. Unacceptable behaviors such as placing kids outside the classroom the whole afternoon, publicly shaming students, to name a few. A former student who had her said she still had nightmare about that teacher. She should retire for the sake of all the students there. Too sad the only way to get your child a safe, non-yelling environment, is to withdraw from that school and pay for a private school in Hawaii? I was warned about Hawaii public school correct.

He was immediately tested for his grade level in all subjects. His test scores in Math showed that he was below the National average for his age and grade level. This is something that we already new, since his Math skills were very poor. The first year at Corvid was a struggle because he needed to catch up to his grade level and stay current with all other subjects. He finished the year not only testing at his grade level for Math, but excelling and surpassing his grade level in other subjects. Our son is now a High School Junior at Corvid Academy. He is on his way to graduating next year! Not only has he been able to excel in his studies, he also has the opportunity to gain public speaking, power point presentations and teaching skills. The highlight of his experience at Corvid Academy has been his participation in the amazing yearly Theater Productions. Through the direction of Ms. Shannon Sofa, Corvid Academy has put on spectacular full production musical plays such as "West Side Story". Our son has played major roles in "Grease" and "Disney". They students are now working on the biggest production yet...."Newsies"! I would have never thought that our son would act, sing and dance,be on a big stage, and learn backstage production! Performing has become his passion! We are very happy with Corvid Academy. We are grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Sofa for creating this amazing school. They and their staff, truly care about all of their students!

Being placed in that school was probably the best thing that my parents could have done for me. I'm not gonna lie and say that going to that school was a perfect experience, because it wasn't. When I first started, I was supposed to be placed in 5th grade, but due to low testing scores was placed a year back. I had a terrible problem with math first coming Corvid. I was a 4th grader who couldn't do simple subtraction, but through numerous one-on-one time with Mr. Johnathan (a teacher at the time) and Mrs. Sofa, I eventually got the hang of it. They took my strength, reading comprehension, and wrote out instructions on how to do it for me to read it and I got it! They then began to do this for each of my math difficulties. I stayed there for the rest of my grades and slowly but surely got caught back up. It was not easy, there were times when I fell behind and thought that I should just give up, but I can guarantee tell you that the teachers do NOT give up on you. No matter how difficult you may be. There were times where I wasn't a good student and I did some things, but they never turned their back on me. Mrs. Sofa cares so much about her students and she wants to see each and every one succeed, even hard-headed students like myself. I believe that I was a junior in High school when Mrs. Sofa and I had a personal talk about what I should do after High School. She suggested that since I wasn't as strong in Math, that I should become an English teacher. She was always telling me how good I was with my English skills and comprehension, so I really took that to heart. She was not the only one who really made an impact on me. Mrs. Shannon also did. She's like a big sister (or even a mom) to me. She's always be there for me to talk to when I felt like I couldn't talk to anyone. She was always there to make sure that I was on track to graduating and when I fell behind she made sure to get me caught up. She made countless schedules and made sure I kept up with them and helped me with the hard lessons. She's also the very one who brought musical theater into my life. She really believed in me and cast me as "Anita" in the production of "West Side Story", "Rizzo" in "Grease", and even the lead of Peter Pan in "Disney Enchanted Dreams." She worked constantly with me on each role. From rolling my r's to becoming more young-boy-like, she was there constantly helping me to perfect my singing and acting. Then there was also Ms. Mary, she's the High School TA, I have to give her props. She's always their making sure we know what we have to be on, and she's always updating our weekly lists so that we don't get behind. Even if we do get behind, she's always there to help make a list to get us back on track. She's aIso an amazing confidant to talk to. I've had a lot of talks and vents with her, and she gives amazing advice that I always take to heart. I will forever be grateful for everything that Corvid has done for me and I will never forget the memories that I made here. I'm currently at Leeward Community College and getting my associates in Secondary Teaching. I hope to transfer to a 4-year-college after my 2 years. I sometimes come by to help out with the kids to get volunteer hours for a college class, and I hope to do more in the future. I like to think of it as giving back to the school for all those years. I don't think I could ever really leave the school, the teachers and faculty have really become like family to me. I credit where I am today to Corvid Academy.
