Our son has been attending Corvid Academy since 4th Grade. He came from another private school in Kapolei which he attended from Pre-K. He was immediately tested for his grade level in all subjects. His test scores in Math showed that he was below the National average for his age and grade level. This is something that we already new, since his Math skills were very poor. The first year at Corvid was a struggle because he needed to catch up to his grade level and stay current with all other subjects. He finished the year not only testing at his grade level for Math, but excelling and surpassing his grade level in other subjects. Our son is now a High School Junior at Corvid Academy. He is on his way to graduating next year! Not only has he been able to excel in his studies, he also has the opportunity to gain public speaking, power point presentations and teaching skills. The highlight of his experience at Corvid Academy has been his participation in the amazing yearly Theater Productions. Through the direction of Ms. Shannon Sofa, Corvid Academy has put on spectacular full production musical plays such as "West Side Story". Our son has played major roles in "Grease" and "Disney". They students are now working on the biggest production yet...."Newsies"! I would have never thought that our son would act, sing and dance,be on a big stage, and learn backstage production! I'm a personal alumni of Corvid Academy, and all I can really say is that I honestly miss the school. This school has impacted me on not only my school life but personal life. Being placed in that school was probably the best thing that my parents could have done for me. I'm not gonna lie and say that going to that school was a perfect experience, because it wasn't. When I first started, I was supposed to be placed in 5th grade, but due to low testing scores was placed a year back. I had a terrible problem with math first coming Corvid. I was a 4th grader who couldn't do simple subtraction, but through numerous one-on-one time with Mr. Johnathan (a teacher at the time) and Mrs. Sofa, I eventually got the hang of it. They took my strength, reading comprehension, and wrote out instructions on how to do it for me to read it and I got it! They then began to do this for each of my math difficulties. I stayed there for the rest of my grades and slowly but surely got caught back up. It was not easy, there were times when I fell behind and thought that I should just give up, but I can guarantee tell you that the teachers do NOT give up on you. No matter how difficult you may be. There were times where I wasn't a good student and I did some things, but they never turned their back on me. Mrs. Sofa cares so much about her students and she wants to see each and every one succeed, even hard-headed students like myself. I believe that I was a junior in High school when Mrs. Sofa and I had a personal talk about what I should do after High School. She suggested that since I wasn't as strong in Math, that I should become an English teacher. She was always telling me how good I was with my English skills and comprehension, so I really took that to heart. She was not the only one who really made an impact on me. Mrs. Shannon also did. She's like a big sister (or even a mom) to me. She's always be there for me to talk to when I felt like I couldn't talk to anyone. She was always there to make sure that I was on track to graduating and when I fell behind she made sure to get me caught up. She made countless schedules and made sure I kept up with them and helped me with the hard lessons. She's also the very one who brought musical theater into my life. She really believed in me and cast me as "Anita" in the production of "West Side Story", "Rizzo" in "Grease", and even the lead of Peter Pan in "Disney Enchanted Dreams." She worked constantly with me on each role. From rolling my r's to becoming more young-boy-like, she was there constantly helping me to perfect my singing and acting. Then there was also Ms. Mary, she's the High School TA, I have to give her props. She's always their making sure we know what we have to be on, and she's always updating our weekly lists so that we don't get behind. Even if we do get behind, she's always there to help make a list to get us back on track. She's aIso an amazing confidant to talk to. I've had a lot of talks and vents with her, and she gives amazing advice that I always take to heart. I will forever be grateful for everything that Corvid has done for me and I will never forget the memories that I made here. I'm currently at Leeward Community College and getting my associates in Secondary Teaching. I hope to transfer to a 4-year-college after my 2 years. I sometimes come by to help out with the kids to get volunteer hours for a college class, and I hope to do more in the future. I like to think of it as giving back to the school for all those years. I don't think I could ever really leave the school, the teachers and faculty have really become like family to me. I credit where I am today to Corvid Academy. read more

I love Corvid Academy! There isn't any where else that your child can work hard and finish a grade or two in a year. Before your child starts, they will take a placement test. I had two daughters who attended Corvid Academy. My daughters started a grade below their biological age. The first year was tough. There was a lot to learn and very academically demanding. Each year got better as they knew what was expected. Learning how to study for test also helped them advance to another grade level. I felt so confident that they would do well in College. By attending Corvid Academy they learned to become leaders, studying independently and learning how to manage their time. If you child is advanced, or struggling in school, this maybe the school for them. They will start at the grade level that is appropriate for them. Mrs. Sofa's passion for learning goes above and beyond. "Every child can learn" is her motto. I can't thank this school enough for helping my daughters. We are so blessed. read more

This school is not safe for children. The other day, a parent walked in and started to cuss at a teacher, flipping him off while leaving. You may think it was all the parent's fault but the teacher kept egging the parent on and saying things with a lot of attitude. There are many technical problems with the internet as the internet keeps cutting out and that's the only way that the highschoolers can do their work as everything is online. The head teacher likes to air everybody's business to everybody like sharing their grades instead of talking to them personally. The school ends at 3:30 which has been a problem for parents as the parents will be waiting for their kids to come out and the teachers tell them they cannot leave. One of the kids had to leave the school cause of all of the stress that Ms. Sofa put on him he wasn't eating at home cause if the school. This is not a good school don't send your children to this school. Another thing is that everything is disorganized she mixes everything around and makes it harder for the students. read more

My daughter started at Corvid Academy this school year. She loves Corvid Academy and is learning so much. The small classroom environment and low teacher to student ratio is a plus. The communication between parent and teacher is great. I feel the school is personalized to each child's individual needs. My daughter has excelled at Corvid academy and although the work load is challenging she can learn at her pace and does not have to keep up or be held back by other students. This is a reply and to address "Anonymous G." and also my review of Corvid Academy. I am speaking from 10 years of personal experience and insight as a parent of two kids enrolled and one soon to be. I'm not sure what happened with "Anonymous G." and Corvid Academy. To me, this is something I think you should of talked to the staff personally about and had resolved. These are some awful and untrue statements about the school as a whole. I understand 'yelp' is a place to write a review...good or bad, but to speak for "every kid" and to call them "fake" is wrong on so many levels...are YOU every kid...NO! Last time I checked a huge majority of kids "hate" school, this is something not new to the world...School is work (at Corvid it's hard work) and not many want to work and enjoys school?! Heck, even adults that are in school don't enjoy it most of the time, but they know and understand that it's to help them further their career and to help them earn a better living. You are again speaking for others when you say "In this school, everyone is toxic" and "teachers, primarily..., just degrade students". They don't deserves to be called toxic, especially the kids. Did you talk to the teachers about them being degrading and confront them with these allegations? I've never seen or heard of Corvid dropping a student a grade level, especially to "make more money". New students are given an assessment test in all subjects to see where they are academically. I've learned that this school is unique in many ways...instead of going by the child's biological age to determine what grade they are placed in, they look at their test scores and that determines what grade they'll be in. Some of the kids are actually doing 2 grade levels. If they're a biological 5th grader, but had a high test score in reading, then are placed in 6th grade reading and 5th grade for all other subjects. All students get a lesson plan on Monday from their teachers, it's also posted in the classrooms, and emailed to the parents. Saying "teachers and staff don't know priorities" is uncalled for. If you had a bad incident regarding the planning and scheduling for your child, you needed to bring that to the attention of their teacher. The curriculum is working if the students that apparently "cheat" can take an IOWA Standardized Test (no computer, just a pencil and a paper test) and have test scores showing them in a higher grade or even college level. Granted, this isn't the case for all, my kids have tested in a higher grade level in certain subjects...so they must be learning something! Kids are smart and sneaky, I'm sure some kids "cheat", doesn't matter the school even more so if they work on a computer, even in college..nothing new. I know the school had some hiccups with the computer programs that they use. Things are constantly changing in technology/software programs and that is very common in ANY school that runs most of their curriculum on the computer. Not sure what "bootleged subjects" the school has, but I have not see any besides the normal subjects like math, reading, science, etc. Also, to say that the teachers only "care about is their paycheck" and that they don't care if the students are "learning and absorbing the knowledge" is very ignorant. Teachers are definitely underpaid in many schools nationwide, maybe the world too. Teachers become teachers knowing full well that they will NOT become millionaires and not even close! They do it to help children succeed and for the love of them. They are a small private home school, do you really think teachers are rolling in the big bucks there? They can only do so much to help students learn and absorb knowledge. It is also the responsibility of their parent(s) and the child themselves. You can lead a horse to the water, but can't make it drink. I know when my child is struggling, steps are taken to assess that. If they still are having a hard time, then it is possible that this school is not the appropriate fit for their particular needs. Of course this is true, "there are far better and cheaper alternatives than sending your child to this school for tutoring". There will always be better and cheaper everything in life. Both my children were reading at 4 years old, my oldest learned to read in two 30 min. sessions. My eyes were opened to the importance of early education, which is what the school prides themselves on. The school is in a house, that's why it's called home school. They do have the students clean up after themselves and their classroom, it teaches them to have pride in their school and to work as a team. Life skills are taught through their subjects and from actually doing their "chores". I appreciate this as a parent because it helps my kids carry that over into their "real home". To say "all the illegal sh*t they get away with" on here is defamation of character, please contact the school directly. I can 100% GUARANTEE that my kids don't hate this school! read more

My grandson Kobe attends this private college prep school & it is the best kept secret on the Westside. At this time, Kobe is on a trip with some classmates, the director Linda Sofa & some parents. They are in Disneyland for three days, then off to Washington, for a historical tour. Then they will be attending a graduation at Liberty University in Virginia for two graduates from Corvid Academy ( I told you Corvid Academy is a college prep school!).So many opportunities for students that attend this school. This fall, Corvid Academy hired a teacher to teach Spanish & the Spanish culture. They offer piano, violin lessons after school as well as tutoring. Corvid Academy has a summer session for existing & new students. My grandson Kobe is suppose to be in the 8th grade, but he passed all test for 7 & 8th, so he completes his 9th grade year on June 10th. This fall he will be in the 10th grade! Yes, Corvid Academy does not hold back kids because of age, if they pass the Iowa Testing with 80% or better & master a grade level, students are pushed up to the next grade level. I attended Corvid Academy from 3rd grade all the way to 8th grade. Those were the 5 best years of schooling I have ever experienced. Thanks to Corvid Academy, they taught me how to be an independent learner, how to study for tests correctly, form good study habits and taught me how to manage my time well. Mrs. Sofa played a huge role in my life not only keeping me accountable for my academic success but also being supportive of my club sport, which is soccer. As a young child, I always dreamed of playing D1 collegiate soccer but soccer took up a lot of time and commitment. However, Corvid Academy was very supportive and flexible to where I could take my work with me but still focus on playing soccer. Due to my education at Corvid Academy that got me ahead in academics, high school was a breeze and I graduated as a valedictorian. As a result, I am very thankful for Corvid for making my dreams come true. I am currently a student athlete at a D1 college pursuing my dreams of getting a college education and playing the sport I love. My study habits remain the same as what Corvid Academy taught me and I couldn't be more thankful for Mrs. Sofa and the teaching staff that work very hard to get students ahead! read more

I am a student here at "Sofa So Good Preparatory & Learning Center". I have been coming here for about 5/6 years. At 4th grade, I knew very little math. Mrs. Sofa, Mr. Noah, and Mr. Jonathan really REALLY helped me to understand different concepts in math. They worked with me one-on-one to insure that I got all the different concepts. My daughter attended Corvid Academy for 2 years (7th & 8th grade) to help catch her up to grade level, since English was not her first language. The opportunity to work at her own pace, focus on foundational skills, and work towards mastery at each level was extremely helpful for her. Her teachers were very involved in her learning and would often offer individual assistance. She is now re-enrolled in public school and doing really well thanks to her 2 years at Corvid Academy.
