They scheduled the pickup and delivery for 9:30-11:30am on a Wednesday and said I'd get a tighter time confirmation that morning. The crew contacted me at 8:30 and said they'd arrive for pickup between 9:15 and 9:30. They did. The former owner of the piano texted me at 9:20am and said they were already gone and all had been smooth. They arrived promptly to deliver, called me to say they were here, and three strong piano moving experts carried the piano (a spinet) up to my second floor walkup (28 steps, 5 turns). They had moving blankets on the piano and did not touch any of the walls. Flawless. They were excellent, fast (but moved slowly and carefully), and very pleasant. And the price was right. I submitted my information on a Saturday and figured I'd hear back later in the week but he contacted me within the hour and was able to fit me in the very next day! He was exactly what I'd hoped for: straight-forward, easy-going and not-judgy about my low-brow piano (Wurlitzer spinet). I totally left the door open for him to charge me extra by indicating that my piano hadn't been tuned in some time and might need a more expensive service. He explained that I basically didn't need it. I also asked about a minor repair and he showed me how I could take care of it myself. He was extremely candid about my piano ("it's in good shape and doesn't need any repairs which is kind of unusual for purchasing an older piano." "Some people say you should have your piano tuned 6 months after a move but I don't see why you would need it in less than a year"). Whenever you're in a situation where you don't really know anything (servicing a car, piano, boat, whatever), it's really important that you feel you can trust the person doing the service. I trust peter completely and will use him again every time I get my piano tuned.

Besides having problems with the tuning,he'd tell us that he couldn't fix a dead key because he couldn't do that particular work, and that it was a huge job and would cost lots of money etc. Granted, we didn't do the ideal tuning every six months that you should do to keep it up. I discovered Gary's service while I was Christmas shopping at Sam Ash for my daughters. They had his business cards sitting on the counter, and I noticed that it read "Piano Tuning & Repair" which I thought was ideal. I asked the salesman there and he said that everyone liked Gary's work, and he came highly recommended. The first time he came over he not only expertly tuned the piano, but also fixed two bad keys on the spot for a reasonable charge. That was about 5 years ago and he has done our tuning and service ever since. Once you meet him you will instantly know that a) he is professional - easy to schedule and always on time, b) he is extremely knowledgeable and exudes confidence c) he is honest and he's not just looking to make a fast buck off of you. My daughter, who plays it, is absolutely thrilled at what he has done with her piano.
