We visited Kaffee Haus about two weeks ago, during our recent trip to Germany, to visit family…read more Interior seating at Kaffee Haus is quaint and relatively charming, with a very simple, old world romantic vibe. Wooden tables and chairs throughout the restaurant add a bit of rustic charm, floors are wood plank. The walls are sporadically adorned with paintings that are apparently for sale, as they are labeled with prices.
We went to Kaffee Haus on a Sunday afternoon, around 3:00pm. The restaurant was about one-third full with guests, so it was busy but not overly so. We seated ourselves and waited to be served. Our server arrived within a respectable amount of time, but not immediately. Our drink orders were taken; Radler, Hot Chocolate and a Cappuccino. After that, we waited... and, we waited... annnd, we waited! Then, we waited a little longer.
When our drinks finally arrived the Radler was cold, the Hot Chocolate was almost cold, and the Cappuccino was barely warm. While we still had the Server's attention, we ordered our meals. My brother-in-law and I both ordered Flammkuchen; he the Vegetarian and me the Speck. My wife ordered the "Special:" a Seared Chicken Breast with Mushroom Sauce, Rice and Salad. And again, we began waiting. And, we waited... and waited... annnd we waited! Then, we waited A LOT longer!
In fact, we waited so long that another group of three received their meals before we did, despite their having arrived after us. And, we waited SO LONG that we ended up inquiring about our order. By the time our meals did arrive, literally a solid HOUR had passed since placing the orders. Suffice to say, we were happy to finally receive our food but we were equally perplexed by seemingly being ignored during the entire time we waited.
On the subject of the food, my B-I-L and I very much enjoyed our Flammkuchen. My wife, however, said that her food was "forgettable." I'm posting an image of her meal and, when I look at her meal and consider other food reviews for Kaffee Haus, I am inclined to believe that, had we had an overall better experience and not felt neglected, she would have enjoyed her meal much more.
I was really hoping to have a great experience here, because Kaffee Haus has such a neat vibe with old world flair and the food - for me - was great. I would give Kaffee Haus another try, even though my wife would not. If you're thinking of Kaffee Haus as a place to get a hot drink and some food, I do believe you would have a better experience than we did. At least I would hope so.
My Three Star rating is based mainly on the wait service, the shortcomings with our drinks, and my wife's feedback about her food. Those things brought an otherwise Five Star experience down to a solid Three!
Eat well. Be well. Cheers!
