I used to go to this place when it was owned by others. It had a curious mishmash of a menu, mainly pasta and panini's, but the people were nice enough, prices were fair and quality generally decent. The convenient location close to my old Big Peg office made it a regular haunt of mine at lunchtimes. Then it closed and was sold. Now it's reopened with a new name, a new focus and new owners.
I popped in for breakfast one day and was pleasantly surprised by the refit. It looks much better now. The old mishmash menu had previously extended to decor and the place just didn't know what it was meant to be! Now it is way more attractive. The menu is still a little weird. The old place presumably failed based on the menu and yet many items have been carried across, almost as if they asked the old owners what sold best. That's kinda the wrong question! I would prefer to see it as a genuine ethnic canteen. It skates around the edges without making the commitment. It would do well given the general dull homogeneity of lunch time JQ offerings close by.
Anyway, I think I paid around £5 for what is likely to be the best breakfast bang in the area right now. Sausage, bacon, two fried eggs, beans, toast, maybe mushroom too, and a decent cuppa. What's not to like? Service was very nice and the food was fine, not exceptional but it was certainly worth the money. read more
