This is the first good tea I've had out in a while, actually. I did not taste their food, but my friend ordered a sandwich and orange juice and both looked relatively desireable for lunch. The reason I did not rank this place higher is because it was not very clean. The girl, who appeared to be working alone, was trying hard to keep the place clean, but it wasn't working. I think it just needed a good thorough washing. Påfyll has children's highchairs...which I think is great for mothers (although I prefer quiet cafes and no children). But these highchairs were dirty. I was sitting near the stack and was hesitant to even place my coat on one of them because they were disgusting. I can't fathom that a mother would like to put her child in one. Another reason I struggled with this place was the sun was so bright that half of the seats in the place immediately became 'bad seats'. My friend had to wait for someone else to leave in order to find a seat on the other side. While I love seeing some sun here in Oslo, it is not the most comfortable situation at a cafe when you're blinded by it. Perhaps some blinds or curtains would work during the sunlight hours where it shines through so brightly? I would not mind heading back to this place :) And hopefully next time I can do an updated review where I give it 5 stars.

It was busy with lots of Norwegian speakers and what looked like people grabbing breakfast before work. There is plenty of seating both inside and outside, which is always a plus. I didn't try the coffee since I had already had some, but there was a good selection of pastries along with larger dishes on the menu. Since I was new to Oslo, I wanted to try a local pastry, so I went with the raisin roll (around $5). The roll was pretty good--nicely baked and, while not warm, it still tasted fresh. It had been a while since I'd had a raisin let along a raisin pastry, and I was pleasantly surprised. The raisins added just enough sweetness and flavor without taking over. Overall, a solid spot for a quick bite, especially if you're exploring the MUNCH Museum or Opera House. The local crowd, outdoor seating, and convenient location make it a nice Oslo stop.

The bread here is absolutely fresh and delicious- we're huge bread lovers and this place definitely piqued our interest! This was our go-to quick bit to eat for breakfast prior to heading out again and the fresh sandwiches that they make really hit the spot! They also sell whole loaves a breads too which we bought and enjoyed with Nutella during our drives. Cost: Definitely on the more expensive end- breakfast here for us was averaging to $40 every morning but my reference is off. In Norway, that seemed to be the average breakfast cost wherever we went (even a little more expensive). Environment: Very cute establishment- its like a cafe vibe with ample seating, coffee, sandwiches and dessert breads for the end. Service: Very quick- no wait and easy to-go choice for breakfast! Uniqueness: When I think of this chain, my mind always jumps to the wall full of different loaves of breads! Absolutely unique and definitely a place to check out if you're traveling in Norway.

I stood in the line and when it was my turn, I ordered a latte with oat milk. It's my usual and it's also very good at Stockfleths. I've been to a couple around the city. The gentleman behind the counter was very helpful as I perused the pastry collection. Nothing stood out to me at first so I asked if he had a recommendation. He asked if I felt like oatmeal. I said sure. He showed me the toppings options and asked which one I preferred. The caramel berry topping made the oatmeal very sweet and delightful. This excellent customer service made a real impression on me in an otherwise cold city. That is why I felt compelled to write a positive review.

Ohhhhh how I miss coffee in Oslo…read more After moving to Frankfurt, a city with maybe one good cafe that doesn't try to reinvent the Viennese wheel, I craved coffee most on my return to Oslo. I'm not even kidding. My Dutch friend is a coffee instructor and enthusiast and took me to Steam, which is a coffee bar in Østbanehallen. We were simply getting coffee to go, so it wasn't going to be a place where we would sit for long. I am kind of glad- it was very loud and had an impersonal feel to it, hence the fact that it is in Østbanehallen. I opted for a double shot latte and we headed out on the Oslo fjord for some time in the sun. I really enjoyed the coffee. They use beans from Lippe and I truly can't recall where the bean's origins were. But nevertheless, their espresso is robust in flavor, but subtle enough for me (I don't like strong coffees) to enjoy. While I would never sit in this particular coffee shop as I prefer a quiet and quaint environment, I would absolutely head back here for a quick coffee to go.

The cinnamon raisin bun I had almost redefined breakfast for me; it was greasy like a doughnut and totally tasty. The coffee was good -- it's soup-bowl sized (love) and strong enough to get you going for a day of adventure. Love the decor here too; it's not a huge place, so difficult to get a seat to appreciate it, but there's a map on the wall so you can plan world domination (or world exploration, like me) and a really, really cool lampshade. Basically, when I (if I) have a place of my own, I'll style it out in homage to Kaffebrenneriet. (Well, a room at least.) The staff were lovely and the price seemed standard. (That is, pricey for us Brits but reasonable for Oslo!) I like the massive window at the front to gaze out of and the mini al fresco arrangement. It's all cosy and whimsical.

Cafe Opus had exactly what I needed: hot breakfast resembling something I could get back home in the US. I opted for the breakfast special that included eggs, potatoes, bacon, and toast, plus OJ and coffee. I also got an extra waffle with jam on the side, because Norway. It all hit the spot quite nicely. Since it was so early, I had little wait and was able to get a table to myself and overlook the activity on the ground floor below. I found the price to be quite reasonable (In US to NOK adjusted terms.), especially since coffee was self-service and it appears that refills were gratis. For a train station restaurant, this was a-ok by me.
