Small cozy restaurant with great food for a great price. I love getting the buffet, so I can try everything.

Upon entry, the service felt a bit slow. This was our first time visiting, so we weren't sure if we should seat ourselves or wait to be helped. We were noticed multiple times but not acknowledged, and no one told us something simple like "feel free to sit anywhere," so we ended up standing there for over five minutes before finally being seated. Once we sat down, things improved. In my opinion, the food could have been hotter it was more warm than hot. That said, the flavors were really good. And the star of the show: their naan bread WOW. Seriously, I could just eat that and be completely happy. It's made in-house, and you can definitely tell. Absolutely delicious. Prices are very affordable, which is a big plus. I was happy to receive two takeout dinners from the Sunday night special of this restaurant tonight. The combination of the Butter Chicken and the Tika Marsala, with extra Basmati rice and Nan bread, was a welcome sight with stunning visual textures of soft tomato soup with cheese bearing resemblance to red acrylic paint. As I spread the savory mix on the Nan, I was loving the flowing aromas of Indian style spices emanating from the large bowl I was using. The taste that followed was a burst of flavors I had not experienced in a few years, when I was practicing Indian-style recipes I found in the culinary magazine "Saveur". The chicken in both dishes had a firmer texture with a delightful chew where I could almost taste the muscle fibers individually or together. It was well-cooked in the flowing red sauce it came with, but nobody could describe it as "falling off the bone" (what some people may mistakenly describe good BBQ chicken as). The heat came on strongly in these paired dishes, so I would suggest that anyone indulging in this kind of cuisine drink cold Ginger Ale with it. Half my family is from Mexico, so me encanta la comida picante, but the other side is from New York, so the cold and sweet ginger element would help put out that fire. Ordered via Door dash. It was pretty good, no complaints. I ordered the Lamb Korma with extra rice and garlic naan. On door dash they are Hot Kurry Indian Dhaba for some reason. One portion is more than enough. I ate maybe half and I am stuffed. Good flavor, just wish the Korma sauce was a bit more thick. Definitely worth the money. read more

Dropped in for lunch and opted for the buffet. We were greeted and seated right away. We placed our drink order and headed to the buffet. The plates are located below the rice and soup. Most of the plates had stuff on them that probably fell from the top row, like rice or crumbs. Wasn't appealing so I grabbed the second one from the top. The rice comes from a giant rice cooker. Very communal. This day they also served tomato bisque soup. The buffet has a large variety of vegetarian and proteins. Lamb korma, mango chicken, chicken tikka masala, curry chicken, Chana masala, zera aloo, cabbage masala, veggie briyani, tandoori chicken, and a ground lamb and potato dish. There's also a salad bar, some desserts, chutney and raita. The spice levels vary in intensity depending on the dish you select. The lamb korma was definitely Indian spicy. The mango chicken was more sweet. Would recommend using the raita to help cool down the heat if needed. Buffet comes with naan. Next time I'll ask for no butter. It made the naan greasy, sweet and chewy. Not what I'm used to at all. Service was great. There were two servers and they checked on us often and made sure we had refills. The flavors were definitely great, but a lot of my favorites were not on the buffet, but able to be ordered on the menu. The potatoes were also under cooked. The tandoori chicken had been sitting out a while as my chicken was dry. For one, the name, kabob guys, I would expect kabobs on the buffet. Butter chicken, saag paneer, samosas, or chicken vindaloo. Those are my favorite dishes so I appreciate it when they're included in the buffet. read more

Went in with a party of 6 on a Saturday night. My brother was raving about this place and their buffet. Most of us had never tasted Indian food before and that night we all agreed to give it a try. In my opinion everything was spicy, but everyone else didn't seem to think so. We had a fun little discussion about each of the items we picked from the buffet. I experienced the buffet which offered a variety of options, some were noted as vegan. I enjoyed the tomato basil and chicken mango the most. First off, I love Indian food, curries, and desserts. Thought I'd give one of the only Indian food places in the valley a try. DON'T. Went for lunch with my family. We tried the buffet and ordered a couple things off the menu. The buffet food wasn't kept up to proper temperature and made us sick the next day. Food lacked depth of flavor, the naan was severely underdone, and even the fries we ordered for my 2 year old looked old, like they were kept in the way back of the freezer for months. I didn't feed them to her. Food practices at this place are questionable and need to be looked at. My whole family got sick from eating here. I would recommend others to stay away. read more

This was my second trip. We had buffet. It was okay. I didn't find much that really was out of this world, but it was all certainly edible. My favorites were actually the battered and fried zucchini/onion and the plain naan. It would be cool if you could get a different naan option without paying extra. Especially since if you fill up on naan you probably eat less off the buffet. My friend ordered the cheese naan, but you couldn't even tell it had any cheese in it. I'm a fan of garlic naan, but I just stuck with the regular. I wanted to order a lassi to go, but the waitress was kind of slow so I didn't bother. The lassi's sure looked good though and they have multiple varieties too! They also have some good-sounding tea options. I might give them another shot if the buffet looks appealing so I could try the lassi's or teas. I'll update if I do. read more

This is more of a 3 1/2 star review than a full 4 star review.... My wife and I decided to try out the lunch buffet, we had seen their videos on social media and the food looked great, especially their oven baked Naan bread. Here's the first con...and this isn't a bash on the place but what we saw. We entered and weren't greeted by anyone. The front was empty...we looked inside the main area and there was one waitress running around trying to clean tables or bring plates. We asked if we just sit anywhere and she nodded at us from 10 feet away. Was the place extremely busy? Not really...but one waitress to man the front, clean tables, and to bring out plates? It slowed things down... The one main item my wife and I craved was Naan bread...and there was none in site. Granted....we didn't know you had to specifically ask the waitress and she would bring you a small basket of it to the table...but we would scarf it down and then have to wait another 10 mins before she could bring out another small basket, since they are made fresh. I love butter chicken but it wasn't on the buffet selection...not a knock but I would compare that to a Mexican buffet not having enchiladas on the menu...it's such a traditional and popular Indian dish you would expect it on the buffet items. However...you can pay extra and order it a la carte. Curries are also notoriously Indian dishes...but I don't think I saw any options on the buffet, only as individual menu items. The buffet items on their own were all quite tasty...I was pleasantly surprised by one side, ground lamb w/ potatoes, looked like picadillo. It was quite delicious... Was the food delicious... definitely. But the overall experience felt lacking considering the service and the selections offered. read more

Out of towners looking for a break from chain restaurants in McCallen, go here for good Indian. Plenty of gluten free vegan options available (my favorite!). Sara was our friendly and helpful waitress. We had the Indian buffet which had fresh Chicken Tandoori and Jasmine rice. Sadly the spinach was way too salty. There were many vegetarian dishes as well. I had some yellow lentils which were cooked correctly and had a pleasant taste. My one concern was another chicken dish that had just been put out and was raw, but after being told, it was removed. These other reviews were probably written by them. I went in and got food to go and what I got was like spicy tomato soup was not curry at all. The seats were sticky and the restroom was dirty. I NEVER leave bad reviews but I'm leaving this one because I had went back to get a refund and he pushed some bottoms and gave me a paper that said I was refunded....it's been a month and I didn't get my money back. Attractive and comfortable enough on the inside though it is small. The buffet was very good for the price, and the service was great. I ordered lamb korma off the menu. The sauce was almost sweet, not at all spicy though I asked for medium - so not my favorite BUT the portion was generous and I brought home enough to make lunch the next day by chopping up and adding some green cabbage and onions I had at home. They offer different variations of Naan ALL were good!!! We will definitely go back when we have a hankering for Indian food. read more

Loads of food color added to the gravies - chilli chicken, butter chicken and the veg curries - nothin tasted good.. The tandoori chicken did not taste fresh at all..The place was understaffed and everything including water was brought in late .. I generally like to start with a "classic" when trying a new ethnic restaurant. My fave Indian cuisine is Planet Bombay in Atlanta, GA but I actually want to try more from Kabob Guys because I enjoyed my chicken curry with basmati rice and garlic naan so much! It's easy to overcook white chicken chunks but the chicken was juicy!!!! It was a great portion size for the price (not too much or too little) and I really liked how the curry sauce itself was like a lighter version than I expected with a semi-chunky consistently like a thick tortilla soup. As you can see from my photos the garlic naan was perfectly made, lotsssa garlic and herb and I made sure to save a piece so I could mop up every last bit of the curry ! Thoroughly pleased and glad I took the time to order from you guys instead of trying a mediocre place closer to my hotel. High five! Thanks for putting love into your food!!! read more

Went 5 times in 2 weeks. 'Nuff said. Although this place seems to be known for their buffet, the 2 for $20 special that came free a complimentary order of naan was my go-to for carry out. My staple order was the chicken tikka masala and tried the other options. Tandoori chicken came in at a strong #2. And if you love garlic, ordering extra garlic naan is an great choice. It was a big too much for me, personally. The ladies in the front are polite as you can call in to make your order, pull up curbside, and call again so that they can come outside with your food. Just be careful with their spice level: mild, medium, and spicy. This is "indian spicy", not "white people spicy". There's a difference, y'all. If Kabob Guys decides to stick with the 2 for $20 special even when they open up their buffet again, I think they have a keeper!
