I've been to Ka-Chunk several times. I don't live that close to Annapolis so I don't frequent often. When I do stop in I usually find a few records I haven't come across at other shops... THE GOOD... -clean shop -organization is good -stocks a ton of reissues and new LP's if that's your thing -lots of budget bin records if that's your thing -listening station -owner is friendly -rarity section can yield a nice find THE BAD... -parking can be a pain depending on time and day -quantity of used records is small, but I will say within the smaller selection there's some good stuff Overall I'm a fan of Ka-Chunk. It's not the kinda shop you'd be in for hours. Perhaps 30 min will suffice. I've always walked out with something though that made me feel it was worth the drive and tolls. I've been to tons of shops that'll have quadruple the used stock and walk away with nothing at times. I've never left Ka-Chunk without buying something. If you're in the Annapolis area or are looking for another shop to support I'd suggest checking it out! read more

KA-CHUNK!! is probably the most inviting record store I've ever visited. Matt is a wealth of knowledge and always happy to chat. A wide variety of music sold (and played in-store) is a huge bonus -- I've purchased everything from Vaughn Meader's "The First Family" to an original pressing of Purple Rain (complete with fold-out poster of Prince and the Revolution). Just a great place all around with an owner who takes safety precautions seriously and cares about the neighborhood. Cant ask for more and so happy it's local. read more

This store is fantastic and the owner, Matt really is interested in what his customers are looking for. Often times he will ask what you want to see more of in the store. Next thing you know, more of what you want is waiting on your next visit. The prices can't be beat either and often times, I've found great original metal records for less than what you'd find across the market! If you live in Annapolis, where else are you going to get vinyl? Goodwill? Fuhgeddaboudit -- come here! Great selection of mostly new vinyl, with a fun little section of used arrivals that came in recently along with well organized used LPs, by artist, in the back of the store. Really reasonable prices. You could order new LPs on Amazon or something, but you should stop here first because it's fun, and it's always good to support the local shop and then walk across the street to Galway Bay for a brew or a single malt or go to Harry Brown's for a martini or Manhattan at happy hour. Uh...your clear memory serves you incorrectly. I didn't test the Floyd record because it looked ok from a brief viewing but it wasn't. I actually didn't test any of the records I purchased. Most were in the cheap bins so I visually graded, two were new and the other was the defective Floyd. read more

I've been buying records from Matt almost since he opened KA Chunk and during covid bought them via mail. Not once have I ever seen him treat anyone with anything but respect and not once have I ever seen him respond "smugly" to a customer (I'm now referring to an earlier one-star, probably fake, review) even when that customer deserved smug. Put all the 4- and 5-star reviews up against the two negative ones over all those years and what do you get? Confirmation. Matt's honest and knowledgeable and if he doesn't have it he'll get it for you. I've even ordered several big-buck sets from him instead of going a few dollars cheaper on Amazon. Why? Because it's worth a few bucks to have a real place to go, and at 65 I still learn about new stuff from him, yet he also carries a bunch of the classic jazz and rock I like. Nothing better than a place to go to flip through records and chat and learn. You don't get that online. And he can't pay the rent at Amazon prices for new stuff. But he prices new stuff fairly, and charges a pittance for used stuff. Go there. read more

I visit this shop about once a month, whenever my wife's work takes her to the area. Luckily, it's within walking distance of her office, otherwise parking would be an issue, although the same could be said of just about any shop in the area. Simply put, I love this shop. As easy as it would be to order vinyl online, there's still something to be said for being able to go in and flip through records, with no real aim or goal, to find something new. The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful, and goes out of his way to make sure his shop has as much as he can. Are there things I've looked for there that weren't in stock? Of course. But more often I've found albums there that I wouldn't have otherwise discovered, or been pleasantly surprised by something I found. If you're looking for a vinyl shop, you could do a lot worse than Ka-Chunk! I'll continue to shop there as often as I can, and recommend you do so, as well. read more

I found myself in Annapolis recently and went by Ka Chunk for the first time. The store is in a part of town that's on a street with some other shops, mostly antique stores and a few bars. Ka Chunk has a large selection of new records, both new releases and reissues. They have a small section of used records, which is what I was interested in. While their used selection is fairly small, I still came away with 5 solid albums that I had been looking for. They also have a decent selection of new and used 7", if that's your thing. The prices were also reasonable, both on new and used records. Overall Ka Chunk is a solid shop, if I ever find myself in Annapolis again I'll definitely swing by. read more

I've been to a ton of sweet record stores nationwide and honestly this place ranks up with the best. Matt the owner is a great guy who has a real passion for the music he sells. The store always has the best special editions and limited pressings and new/popular records are always in good supply. If you need to know what new releases will be in stock, the Ka Chunk Facebook page has a massive date by date list of what will be in store and when. Also any new shipments will be announced when they come in so minimal effort is needed to find the records you want, if you know where to look. My favorite time in store was when The Evens played an intimate set, with everyone crowded at Ian McKaye's feet, giving the space a really communal vibe. Honestly this store isn't just another cookie cutter shop like so many in Annapolis, in that it operates as a taste making center of sorts, something that the area sorely needs. read more

Came up from DC for a day out doing the tourist thing, and total pleasant surprise in stumbling across ka-chunk: great selection, meticulous organization, really interesting/pretty selection of posters. I didn't buy any posters, but I did buy some used vinyl; ka-chunk labeled these as "near mint"; they looked good in store and getting them home and playing showed that they were in fact in great shape. Smells like honesty in advertising. Price totally fair. Next time I'm in Annapolis, this is a mandatory stop. read more
