I ordered The Duck (burger and chips) and it took a bit over 35 minutes, which I noticed (as I was sitting there) was a bit of a consistent issue. It's not that bad, but it is a bit long of a wait. Just heads up if you're on a timetable, this might be a risk. If you're not, then you're probably safe to order and wander around or shop for a bit. Just ask how long it'll take when you order. Palæo renowned for being the first restaurant chain where you can go 100% paleo. As the name implies, their menu is focused on a paleo diet aka. the Stone Age Diet. Essentially, that means they're avoiding anything that processed or refined, and they're known for being 100% paleo. However, they do have items and options that don't adhere to it. This includes items like beer, coffee, and cheese, and they're all separate things that you must specifically order. It's just a very convenient spot if you're on paleo, lactose-free, or gluten-free diets. They have around 8 locations, and this particular one is a stall in Hall 1 of Torvehallerne Copenhagen market halls. This corner location means they have a lot of little tables suited for parties of one or two as well as counter seating, and during when I was there, there wasn't really anyone competing for seating. Overall, I thought the flavors were pretty great. My favorite thing in The Duck was the perfectly crisp fries and the accompanying sauce. I also liked the duck confit itself, but after a while, I just couldn't get into that bread substitute that was used as the buns. An interesting restaurant and I super appreciated that things are cooked to order as well as certain parts of what I ordered. However, while I was super excited about when I first saw it (something new to try), I just wasn't as enthusiastic about it afterward. In the end, it added to the experience of coming to such a trendy market and is an experience, but just not my cup of tea.

Alarmingly, the staff seemed familiar with the thief/theft, even conversing with him in Roma, and appeared more upset with us for expressing our distress than with the situation itself. To make matters worse, the chef was confrontational and lacked empathy. If my customers were robbed in my establishment, I would be deeply embarrassed and would prioritize assisting them instead of responding aggressively. I was unable to pay for our meal because my device was taken, yet the restaurant insisted on charging us the full price, which we observed another patron pay. They did not contact the police or report the theft. Instead of providing assistance, we were asked to leave while the thief was allowed to walk away, despite three witnesses confirming he was the one responsible. Afterward, we approached the police, who informed us that such treatment of customers is unacceptable and raises serious safety concerns. I strongly advise potential diners to reconsider their choice of restaurant. While the food may be enjoyable, the treatment of customers left much to be desired.

The commitment to health and the paleo lifestyle is what made me give it an extra star. If it was a regular cafe, I would not recommend. I ordered... Open face chicken wrap: 4/5. It was a large portion and tasted good but not great. Not memorable. Could have used more pesto. There was A LOT of almonds and avocado - more than a reasonable meal should have. Seed bread: 5/5. Very delicious and fills the craving for real bread. Would have been better heated up instead of being served cold from the fridge. Location: I tried to visit one evening at 6pm because their online hours were listed as being open til 7pm, but they actually were already closed. There was another customer in front of me who had also read the incorrect information and we were both turned away. Otherwise the interior is nice and comfortable but a bit messy with dirty dishes left on tables and not cleared within a few minutes. The kitchen looked like a mess with smoothie juice on the floor. It looked like the blender exploded.

A fantastic alternative to other comparable meals in the area which are twice as expensive and ten times as unhealthy. It's a damn shame that neither the Palæo in Torvehallerne, nor the one here on Pilestræde, are close to my house. I would probably come here daily, if that were the case. Pro-tip: they sell low carb pastries here, like coconut muffins, nut breads, and various other paleo friendly snacks if you need a treat on the run and are trying to resist visiting Lagkagehuset.

We needed something to eat on an upcoming flight, and I picked up a couple of ReTreat sandwiches. We were amazed by the quality of the ingredients. I'm kind of a sandwich snob, and I thought that the smoked salmon sandwich was perfect. The creamy mustard sauce was a key element. The sandwiches here were so good that we came back a few weeks later when we needed another quick meal. In the mood for something lighter, I found the veggie sandwich to be just as tasty as the salmon sandwich. The addition of sun-dried tomatoes and pumpkin seeds really made it special. I also tried a sample of the ham and cheese sandwich, it was good, but very rich. The sandwiches here are a steal (for Denmark) at only about $8.50 each. This is similar to what they would cost in the States! The sandwiches are large, and we found them to be filling enough for a meal.

We arrived, got to choose 3 cheesecakes to get slices from and when done with those we could come and try others, as much as we wanted. Well...we could not even finish any of the three pieces. Not because we were too full, but because all of them were literally the worst cheesecake I have ever had. I didn't know you could make bad cheesecake before I visited this buffet. Looking at the other tables, we were not the only ones struggling. The cakes were all tasteless with horrible mushy texture. Not worth paying 200 DKK for three half eaten slices of cheesecake.

My boyfriend and I both got 2-scoop ice cream, mine in cup, his in waffle cone. I chose lime (limone) and mixed berry (skovbær) and he chose peach (fersken) and chocolate mint. Beware - the scoop was TINY. Mine hardly filled the little cup and his waffle cone also looked too big for his ice. Those ice cream costs 30 kr each, which I could find a better and bigger ice cream somewhere else. My lime tastes ok and the skovbær tastes nothing of berry (it was mostly mixed with cream) while I must admit the peach tasted good. Sorry, go somewhere else for ice cream....you'd get more for your money.

Anyways, we tried the Pumpkin soup instead and it was really good! I was pleasantly surprised how full I was after the soup but it was very thick. The soup was topped with some fresh herbs, cauliflower and roasted nuts and came with two small pieces of bread on the side. The soup was very tasty and a decently sized portion but I would have never paid full price for it (85kr). The 2-for-1 deal was a good way to try the soup but unfortunately I don't think I'll get it again because of the price. I may go back to try the salads instead because many people around us had them and they looked amazing (and were around the same price as the bowl of soup). The cafe entrance is a little hard to find at first, but just go around the corner into the little alley way and you'll see the door on the side. Inside there are quite a few seats and the lighting is somewhat dim so it feels very cosy inside.

The reason I give them 4 stars is because we didn't have the absolute perfect experience. We came during a crazy 3 hour rush so the wait was long. That part was understandable and we were patient but once our orders came, they were completely different than what we thought we ordered. Don't get me wrong, they were still delicious and filling! We ordered the Hope Cesar Salad and Hope San Salad. The Cesar Salad didn't come with the mint, lime or vegan parmesan cheese as advertised. There were also sprouts added on top which were not in the picture nor description. The Hope San was missing avocado, mashed sweet potato and lime and had onion on top which was not described. It also came with the wrong sauce. Although, I will note that the broccoli was cooked to perfection! It was savory and not too crunchy or moist. The texture was just right. Luckily, we didn't have any allergies and we aren't picky eaters so the mixups were not a problem and we still enjoyed the food! The sweet potato fries were delicious! Others that I've had in the past have either been undercooked, over cooked or way too heavily salted. These were neither of the above. They were crisped just right and salted the best amount. I would recommend these for sure! The smoothies were my FAVORITE part! They tasted healthy but were still satisfying to my sweet tooth. You could really taste each ingredient and the texture was perfectly creamy/frozen. The only thing to note: if you don't like textures in your smoothies, you might not be a fan because you can feel the blackberry seeds. I didn't mind this, but just a note! Loved the place and I would come back when there isn't a crazy lunch rush!
