It's been two years since I've updated my review of K9 Safari and in light of a less than favorable (and in my opinion unsubstantiated) review they received today (which has already been removed) I thought it appropriate to provide a more thoughtful update. I have been utilizing the services of K9 Safari since their inception. In fact, I was their first client and they are currently walking my very sweet but skittish and high maintenance border collie mix. They previously walked a lab and lab mix for me who have since passed on. I myself am not a dog walker but one of my hobbies is pet photography and I have gone on several walks with Megan and Jay at Fort Funston so that I could take pictures for my portfolio. I can tell you that in my personal experience they did not walk more than 6-8 dogs per person, although sometimes they will take groups of 8-10. Yes, sometimes Megan and Jay walk together (they are married) so there is a large group but never at anytime do they let any dogs stray from the pack. They are always on top of their game, calling the dogs every few minutes, and giving them treats and praise to keep them in line. Fort Funston is for the most part heaven on Earth for dogs, but there is a shooting range across the highway and sometimes the sound of the shots can scare some of the dogs. If you have a dog that is literally gun shy then either have them kept on leash or use another service that doesn't go to FF. K9 Safari goes their often and that is one of the reasons I use them. I'm pretty sure they also provide specialized walks for puppies and senior dogs but you'd have to confirm that with Megan. I'm not saying they've never run into problems. K9 Safari has a lot of clients and unfortunately they have had a few incidents recently but they were ACCIDENTS and it could have happened to anyone. No matter how sweet, or great, or trained a dog can be there is always a chance that something can set them off, which could lead to them run away or turn defensive and or aggressive. They are DOGS, not people! Thankfully Megan and Jay are very quick to respond to emergencies, and their company is bonded and insured. Not only are they responsible and professional, the love they have for their dogs is palpable. I feel completely safe leaving my dog under their supervision and would recommend them again and again. read more

Duke was a happy customer here from about 2011-2014. Duke spend many joyous adventure filled days riding in the doggy mobile to Fort Funston, running free on the beach, and delivered safely home. Duke loved the adventure and athleticism of these doggy adventures. Now that Dukeman has crossed the rainbow bridge, I take solace in that he had a fantastically good life, especially during his K9 Safaris. read more

I'm pretty sure this is the best dog walking service in San Francisco. My criteria, which Megan and her team meet *incredibly,* are as follows: 1. Dogs get to go to the beach or somewhere open enough where they really can run 2. Flexible and fast communication around schedule changes and trips. Txt, email, phone - whatever 3. Willingness to deal with my less-than-perfect english pointer mix, Sela, who is mostly a peaceful creature but has her moments 4. Accommodating of last-minute requests when possible. My work schedule changes a lot, and Megan goes WAY out of her way to fit walks and pick-ups that weren't scheduled very far in advance I've had another walker who was good with the animals but was flaky with remembering details for date changes, and did accidentally lose my dog once. Megan and Jessica are incredibly professional, and I can't say enough nice things about how organized and efficient they are. Six stars if i could. read more

About five months ago, we adopted a frightened, overweight dachshund who came from Oklahoma. Howard was easily startled and had a tough time moving around. A few weeks after we got him we found K9 Safari through Michael at Babies. Megan is easily one of the most wonderful people I've ever met. She clearly loves the dogs and sometimes I secretly wonder if she loves Howard more than I do! For the record I'm okay with that - he looks forward to seeing her. Since Megan (and Jen!) started walking him, he's lost almost 2 1/2 lbs (which is significant since he started at 16.8 lbs) and is a new dog. He is much more social, less frightened and can actually run, jump and play. I highly recommend the entire K9 Safari team. They are amazing people and have done an incredible job with my dog (and me!) read more

Jay, Megan and the rest of the K9 Safari staff are amazing. My dog is my child and I needed the find someone to not only walk her but also really treat her as one of their own. My dog couldn't be happier when she gets picked up for a walk (according to my roommate who is home often when Jay or another walker comes to get her) and gets so giddy, doing her butt shake! Jay even leaves notes after he drops her off telling me about where they went and how she played with all of her little friends. Its so cute. They are so flexible too. If I need to have my dog walked on a different day than normal, its never a problem. They are so accommodating! I really couldn't speak more highly of their services. K 9 Safari has their shiz together and my dog is in love with them. read more

We love K9 Safari. We have a little guy who goes out twice a week with the small dog pack. When we first started with K9, Meghan came over and met Mochi and explained their policies. Our little guy looks forward to his socialization and playtime with K9 and absolutely adores Emily (the small pack dog walker). Additionally, they have been really flexible with adding walks and even picking him up from a friend's house while we were on vacation. They are very trustworthy and responsible, a great option! read more

I have known Megan and Jay since my best friend adopted her dog Parker from the SPCA about 5 years ago. They are such warm, caring, friendly, loving people. I myself adopted a 4 month old border collie/flat coat retriever mix from the SPCA about 2.5 years ago and I'm telling you because of Jay, Megan, Mark previously, and now Lisa, Sasha is the most friendly, lovable, playful pup ever! No aggression what so ever. She is also very well socialized from getting to play with all the pups everyday at fort funston or stern grove. I even think she's able to off-leash because she was taught by K-9 what it means to be part of a pack. I'm so thankful I have such great dog walkers and they are worth every penny! To this day, Sasha still piddles every time she sees Jay! read more

Best dog walkers ever! I met Megan and Jay while walking my dog in Buena Vista Park and had enjoyed several walks with them and their happy, well-exercised packs before I even decided I needed to hire a dog walker. After seeing them in action, I knew that they were the ones for me. That was about 6 years ago. Since then, my two little guys have enjoyed countless exciting adventures and endless amounts of TLC on their walks with K9 Safari. Even though we currently do not live in an area they service, I just wanted to give a huge paws up and thank you for always taking such good care of my furry babies. read more

We love Megan, Jay and the K9 safari team! They are extremely helpful/cooperative when it comes to working around our schedules. Jay walks our dog 5 days a week, leaving very detailed notes after every walk about how our dog is doing. We also get occasional pictures of our puppy on her walks! I believe they do almost all of their walks at Fort Funston, and the dogs are gone about 2 hours of the day...so a good chunk of time to break of the day if your dog is home alone all day! Can't say enough good things about Megan and Jay! Go K9 Safari! read more

I absolutely ADORE K9 Safari. We have a 1-year-old Golden Retriever who comes home from her daily romps with the biggest grin on her face. She is completely in love with Megan and is always tuckered out. Megan is great - she sends us beautiful pictures of our pup at the beach, leaves us cute notes and is extremely reliable. I can't say enough good things! We love K9! read more

K9 Safari - Maggie at Fort Funston! - Dog Walkers Near Me

I should have written this review a long time ago.... but i figure better late than never, because these guys are so worth it! Megan and Jay really are the BEST!! I don't know why anyone with an energetic pooch in SF would trust their dog to anyone else. Megan and Jay are the reason our pup is so well socialized with other dogs and people. Not only are these owners of K9 Safari absolutely the nicest, most caring people you have ever met in your life, they are so experienced and comfortable and wonderful at what they do!!! Our pup was basically raised with the K9 safari packs, and i have to say that he is a better pup for it!! K9 safari is a really special group. Even when we take Django out for walks, ourselves, we always run into people who know Megan and Jay and speak so very highly of them and K9 Safari. All you have to do is look at the picture on the K9 Safari website of all the crazy happy pups they walk - and If that doesn't tell you something about how wonderful these guys are, i don't know what does! .....2 months ago our little family bought a house up north and moved out of San Francisco. We really miss Megan and Jay and K9 Safari :( Hard to replace their outdoor adventures and all the genuine love that they have and show for each pooch. We love and miss you guys!!! xoxox read more

Leslie and the K9 Safari team are awesome! Last year my company moved to a dog-unfriendly office and so....K9 Safari to the rescue. Our dog Lou comes home every day happy and tuckered out. And we get a note after every walk letting us know how the day went! They are flexible and have been super helpful in working our changing schedule. AND we get the occasional picture from Ft. Funston. So great!! read more

I can't say enough about Megan and the K9 Safari team. We were looking for a 5 day week service for our dog that had some flexibility, as our schedules can be up and down and sometimes we need to move things around last minute. Megan is always flexible and understanding and accommodating, without any sort of attitude or cancellation fees that other services would charge. We also get text pictures and updates of our dog with his friends at Funston. The best! read more

My girlfriend and I heard about K9 Safari through a friend, and so we decided to give them a try. Things were going great for about a month until one day we received a call from Megan saying that our dog ran off while she was dropping another dog off and she couldn't find her. So it turns out that our dog was unleashed in the car's front seat and was able to jump out of the car. Instead of behaving like a professional, Megan decided that the best thing to do would be to chase after our dog. Naturally, the dog ran off into the street, caused a car accident, and went missing. She frantically called us, and we went out looking for her. I went on foot and my girlfriend went out with Megan. After looking for over an hour, luckily we got a call from a neighbor saying that our dog found her way home. Since this has happened, our dog has been extremely fearful of going outside and gets spooked by pretty much anything outside. This has caused us a lot of emotional hardship. We put a ton of time and energy bringing our shy rescue dog to be a confident and very playful dog, but now she's terrified of everything. Accidents happen, yes, but understanding how to deal with a dog in a bad situation is not what K9 Safari demonstrated to us. I wouldn't want anyone else to have to get that same phone call and live with a damaged dog or worse. read more

for some reason Yelp removed my review claiming i di not have first hand experience of this service I met Jay and Megan when they purchased Michelle Rose's dogwalking business, "Gone to the Dogs" 7 or 8 years ago. I loved Michelle Rose and was fully planning on cancelling the service due to budget reasons, until I met megan and jay. They Rock the dog casbah! Megan and Jay are the finest people animals could ever want to hang with. I know tons of beeders and handlers and dog trainers, all sort of goofy animal people, no one is as committed to canines as Megan and Jay. Megan and Jay transformed my experience and view of animal human realtionships. These two are amazing people ave devoted themselved to the animals they tend to and are the only dogwalking service I would rcommend. This world needs more mutt minded folks Megan and Jay are the best mutt people I know! read more

I can see why K-9 Safari gets such amazing reviews on Yelp. They truly do an amazing service and I know my dog LOVES going on walks with Emily or Megan. She's a high energy Yorkie and comes home completely pooped. My dog is quite a handful and can be a little difficult to train. I think K-9 Safari does a great job with her and they really tailor their service to the needs of each dog. I also trust these guys with the safety of my dog. I would highly recommend giving K-9 Safari a try is you're looking for a dog walking service in the area. read more

I cant give enough high praise for K9 Safari, specifically to Megan and our walker, Jodiah. When I first met w/ Megan, she made us both feel super excited for my little guy to join the pack, and I knew that he was going to be in good hands. I was looking for a walking group that would give my pup some exercise, and freedom to romp on the beach that he loves so much. Megan told me something to the effect of, "We're dog-walkers, not dog-sitters. This is our livelihood and we take it very seriously." Knowing that she is serious about her business, and has a vested interest in the safety and satisfaction of my pup let me know that he was going to be in good hands, and that my apartment would be in good-hands too. (Handing over your baby and the keys to your home to complete strangers can be a rather daunting idea.) (Some background info for you: I had previously interviewed quite a few other walkers, had previously hired a different walker years ago, and I must say, having had bad experiences w/ the other walker, I saw a drastic difference in the professionalism of K9 Safari as opposed to other groups.) Benefits: - Megan and Jodiah were both incredibly patient and flexible w/ me whenever I had to change days due to school schedules/work schedules/vacations, etc. - When I checked in w/ them, asking for pictures of him on his walk, she sent them to me that same day. - When I asked for advice on how to help my guy w/ his manners w/ other dogs, she was super quick in responding w/ advice and w/ referrals for a behaviorist. - -Megan even followed up w/ us to find out how my pup was doing w/ his manners. - Every day of my pup's walk, I look forward to the little note left by Megan/Jodiah telling me about his day w/ them. - Even my neighbors noticed how great Jodiah is w/ Leo, and how much Leo loves Jodiah. (This is an incredible feat considering Leo was deathly scared of men, and yet he runs to Jodiah w/ the same enthusiasm he has for me!) You cant go wrong w/ K9 Safari. read more

My dog Wryly has been hanging out at the beach and in parks all over San Francisco with Megan and Jay ever since I got him 9 years ago. He basically won't leave the house when I'm home unless it's with his buddy Jay. And even when Wryly had a stomach bug recently and had a super gross accident in his truck, Jay couldn't have been nicer about it. Lucky dog, but lucky owner too because Jay and Megan are totally reliable, super easy going and helpful, and all around awesome people. read more

It's hard to believe that nearly eight years have passed since they saved the day; not to mention my sanity. I only had little Wilma a few weeks when it became quite apparent that I was in way over my head and being a single working parent of an adorable yet needy four month old puppy was, well...not working out quite the way I planned. I was at my wits end when two co-workers of mine ran into the two of you just as you were ready to make dog walking a full-time career, and passed on your business card. K9 Safari.....hmm...cool name but I really had no idea then, how much an integral part of our lives you would become over the years. To be honest, I was fairly sure I had found the right people the first time I met Jay and Megan. Warm, friendly and professional for sure, but it's when they declined the chairs and opted instead for the floor, for the remainder of our meeting and thought nothing about finishing your glasses of water, even after Wilma helped herself to some, I sensed that I had the kind of help I so desperately needed. After they left i thought, "those two are dog people, inside and out". For years, I came home each evening, after a lengthy workday, and find my hairy little Muppet, sleeping soundly; like a dog that's been well exercised and more importantly, well loved. But the daily notes chronicling her Pack's escapades or relaying any pertinent information, are the frosting on the cake. It's easy for me to boast, "I have the kind of dog walkers that other people dream of.". My "best friend" is in excellent hands and I know if Jay said he is picking her up that day, it 's as good as done......no matter what. I'd tally the times that they helped me out of a scheduling bind, above and beyond the call of duty, but I'm not sure i can count that high. Would you like to have the kind of dog walkers other people dream of? read more

Five big stars for K9 Safari! We couldn't be happier with Megan and Leslie's degree of service, care, flexibility, and enthusiasm. I'm convinced Leslie, our daily walker, loves our dog at least as much as my husband and I do. Leslie keeps her happy, safe, active, and socialized, and keeps us updated when anything is amiss (our dog has a health condition), or exceptionally cute (photo posts!). When we flew away for our first long vacation and Leslie took care of our dog, she sent us regular photos and videos, which completely removed any typical parental concerns we might have had. In fact, our dog seemed to be having a better time than we were. 100% happy with these guys. read more

We interviewed several dog walkers in the City before Megan and Jay came over to our place to meet Luna. Some were great, but Megan and Jay stood head and shoulders above the rest. Our 8 month old Stafford took to both of them immediately and it was clear within minutes that we had found our team. Megan and Jay are well organized, incredibly communicative, and love dogs. At the end of our meeting they suggested we think it over and let them know. I took one quick look at my wife and knew she was thinking the same thing I was. We hired them on the spot and dog life is now so much better. We are totally pleased with K9 Safari and would recommend them to anyone thinking about hiring a dog walker. read more

If you believe that a tired dog is a happy dog, K9 Safari will well be a good fit for you and your dog. Megan is full of energy and provides a safe and fun environment for dogs to exercise/ play and socialize. She is very reliable and you can easily tell she loves her job. Megan is not only fantastic with dogs but with people too. She often leaves us notes about our dog's day and is always prompt to answer questions and offer additional support. Megan makes our life easier and our dog happy. read more

My dog started at K9 Safari in May 2012. She loves it! And she's gotten better at swimming because of it. The owners and our walker are super responsive and accommodating for interesting schedules (we share custody of our dog and she goes every other week with Ken). I don't feel guilty anymore about whether she's had enough exercise each day. This is a great service for an active healthy dog. She's in great shape and happy thanks to her runs with K9-Safari. read more

Jay and Meg are the BEST! Can't recommend them highly enough.

We use K-9 Safari for our two dogs and they have loved it. My husband and I work the old standard 9-5 and this really helps break up the day for them. If you hesistate sending your dogs since they aren't the most well behaved - I wouldn't worry and I would give it a shot. The walkers are really experienced and are working with one of our dogs who likes to wander alone rather than playing with a group. We have seen improvements since she started walking with a pack! They also have the best recommendations for any kind of pet services in the bay area. Love the days when our pups get walked! read more

I met with Jay and Megan in 2002 when they were just starting their business. Their connection with my dog, and his connection with both of them was immediate. I was a new comer to the city and learned about all the great places to bring my dog through the daily notes Jay left telling me where they went, what they did, and if there was anything I should know about (limping, stool isses, acheivements). When my dog inhaled a fox tail, Meagan called me, got the name of the vet, brought him to the vet, paid and brought him home. Jay became like a father to my dog and walked him 5 days a weeks for almost 10 years, right up until the day my dog passed. Both Megan and Jay were there to console me. It had been a few dogless years for me and then last June, my first ever visit to the SPCA introduced me to my new love, Thea. A lab mix, 6 months old at the time, and extremely submissive and skittish. I became an instant mother to a energetic puppy, so who did I call, Jay. Within a few days, Thea became a full time member of K9 Safari, and Jay has been working his magic with Thea who is so much more confident and calm. I am so blessed to have found Megan and Jay, who have both been like godparents to my dogs. I'm sure that's how they are with all their "hairy" clients. Schedule changes, last minute assistance with boarding, advice on behavioural issues....... bringing heavy packages from the mail area into my home for me, even coming to the resuce when I locked myself out on a number of occassions! Jay is much more than a dog walker, he's a carer of dogs which means doing whatever is needed, whenever. Megan and Jay are the best, and Jay is the bestest! read more

here we are several years later and i still love megan, love her even more in fact! She's been so wonderful to our dog and and family. We are still feeling so lucky to have found her and have her in our lives. Thanks for all you do for us, always flexible, never a kvetch. :) read more

I was referred to Megan and Jay through a friend, and I've never looked back. Megan has been walking my dog for over a year now, and I love it. My dog gets great exercise at the beach and at McLaren park, gets to play with other awesome dogs, and I get days off from walking him myself. My favorite parts though are the Instagram and text message photos during the day, as well as the notes she writes when she drops off my dog. The notes are amazing, and show that Megan puts extra effort into her service. She loves dogs, and that comes through in her interactions with them, and in the notes she writes. Highly recommended, and I wouldn't hesitate to refer anyone to K9 Safari. read more

Megan has been a caring soul to my animals for a long time! She and her dog walkers are some of the kindest, honest, most loyal group of people I have ever met. They truly care about each animal as if it were their own, and they work tremendously hard to make sure each dog is happy, safe and given a lot of love. Trusting your dog in someone else's hands can be a scary thing to do, but I completely trust K9 Safari to take the best care of my animals, Mookie and Saki. Sometimes I wonder if Megan was a dog in her past life because she seems to have such a great connection with the dogs :) I now live in So Cal, but still wanted to say "Thanks K-9 Safari!!" read more

Every outing for my pooch with K9 Safari is fun, exciting and exhausting. I first met the owner of K9 Safari when I saw her pick up a neighbor's dog for his daily adventure. The dog, a rescue dog, had a few behavioral issues and when I watched the professional care and basic training that Megan provided him everyday for almost a year, I knew my rescue pup would be in perfect hands if he joined the group. Another neighbor of mine and I both signed our dogs up with K9 Safari and it was life changing. My dog would come home happily exhausted, socialized and anxious for his next outing. I could sense that he was learning valuable doggy skills as he became more manageable on leash with me and with the training I was conducting with him. Megan and her team of professional dog walkers are sweet, caring, trust worthy, and they completely understand dogs and their humans! Because I frequent a lot of the dog parks in the city, I see a lot of dog walkers out there and I am beyond comfortable trusting my dog's playdates to none other than K9 Safari. read more

i joined yelp just to review k9 safari. i have the sweetest, most loving lab/pitt that can be a little leash reactive at times. other walkers wanted to charge up to $60 an hour for private walks with my dog. insane! but when megan met him, she was confident she could help him through playing in a pack. now he runs off leash, has great recall, and cuddles with other dogs in his crew. the only downside is that on weekends i think my dog might be bummed out to not be playing with k9 safari. he can't wait til monday! read more

I was at work when my phone rang with a number I didn't recognize. I let it go to voice mail and then picked it up to discover Megan had found my two dogs (one is an 8 month old puppy) a mile away from my home. I was across the bay and couldn't help so Megan took both the dogs back to my home, found the open gate they got out of, rummaged in the back yard to find something to barricade the broken gate and then left. The whole thing probably took her 40 minutes, in the wind and rain. I don't know anything more about Megan than that, but that in itself is more than enough. Megan, I and my two daughters, can't thank you enough! read more

K9 Safari has really made our lives so much easier and our dogs life very happy. Megan and her crew has amazing service attitude, they are very flexible and accomodative, porfessional, easy to work with and communicate and as the most important thing, our dog loves the walks!!! She has been such a happy camper ever since we started to walks about a year ago and gets so excited to see Megan or one of the other walkers to come pick her up. My dog, Scampie, has been going on walks with K-9 Safari for over a year. She is IN LOVE with her walker, Dave. When I say his name, she goes crazy! Megan, the very knowledgeable and approachable owner of K-9 safari, oozes love for all the dogs they walk. Scampie has arthritis from a past surgery, and both Dave and Megan make sure she gets adequate exercise without overdoing it. I got my mom and my sister to use K-9 Safari also, and their dogs are just as happy as mine. I highly recommend K-9 Safari. read more
