We love this place! Been training here since July when we rescued this big energetic boy who was desperately in need of training. (Us too) We never had a large intense breed so it's been a process for us both. They have been so helpful with us and I truly believe they really care for these dogs. He did a 10 night board when we went on vacation and the daily updates with video put my mind at ease. Loved the kennels very clean and they prepared his meals just they way I would. He came back freshly groomed and smelled so good. Highly recommended. Started with puppy class for our male German Shepherd. We then put him through the board and train program and we are very satisfied. The overall training is excellent and the staff stayed in constant contact with us while the pup was at training. In addition to purchasing our food, K9 Kravings, from them, we also use them for boarding while on vacation. I know that he is in great hands while we are away and he receives more attention than he would at other kennels. Even after training was over, employees are extremely responsive to any additional questions and are always willing to address any further concerns that may come up. read more

I urge other dog owners to approach this business with caution. The first session was the owner trying to sell raw food that is, conveniently, sold at the business and included him displaying pictures of dead cats/ dogs because that's "what's in dry dog food" (spoiler alert: this is completely false). There were several other questionable or even dangerous claims about dog nutrition. This made us very cocnerned about the quality of training but hey, we were $1600 in the hole, so worth a shot. Unfortunately, the puppy class was no more than a glorified dog park. At about $100 a session, I would expect them to do better. Maybe if we had been better prepared with an introduction to the course structure it would have been okay, but instead we were subjected to over an hour of misinformation and the business owner saying that we should listen to them, not our vet, when it comes to animal nutrition. read more

I met Bill and David through my search for a dog training facility that incorporated schutzhund. I toured the facility with David, who gave me some background on the schutzhund (IPO) club and brought in my Rottweiler for an evaluation. I was in the midst of dealing with some medical issues so would not be able to commit to the time necessary to train the pup. Both Bill and David have been very supportive in the care of the puppy while I was recovering from a major surgery. She boarded at K9 Koncepts for 2 months and the trainers worked with her during her stay. When I went to pick up the pup she was a different dog. The folks at K9 Koncepts took take care of her like their own. Currently, I have a Mal and Dutch Sheperd that go there. The puppy classes are a great value. About half the price of other puppy class packages around and they focus on socialization which was my main concern for my puppy who started at 12 weeks. They pay close attention to make sure the puppies get to play freely but safely. There is a time period during each class where people can ask as many questions as they want about their puppies' behavior which is so helpful because you get to ask very specific questions and also get to learn things you wouldn't consider asking about. My friends are usually impressed by my little labradoodle's response to "come," thanks to the puppy class. They care about educating you on nutrition, which is very nice and informative, but they also don't shove anything down your throat so that you can still make your own decisions about your dog's nutrition. I live in Harford County and was concerned about the drive, but it turned out to be a quick and easy 35 minutes straight down 95. I really look forward to going to puppy classes every week and I'm sad that this is our last one! read more

Please Please Please! do not take your dog here for obedience training, the classes are too big and the instructors do not have any useful advice and will harm your dog. I knew nothing about dogs and came to these people for help when I adopted a rescue puppy and following their advice scarred my dog psychologically and ruined our bond. He is terrified of the crate because I trusted their advice to keep him in there for most of the day and night. He is terrified of me because I trusted their advice and "corrected" him when he wouldn't sit in a position they liked. Make no mistake this place uses physical pain, withholding food and confinement to achieve their results and they're absolutely stubborn in their belief that their way works infallibly and have no time for your problems. I remember in basic obedience when asked any question they responded with the same question "how long are they the crate?" I could rant for hours about all the problems of this place honestly it should shut down but whatever you do do not under any circumstances let Kiki hold your leash or work your e collar! read more

Other than the food and treats they sell nothing has been useful. Our dog is terrified of the crate and the only advice ever given was that he needs to spend more time in it. No amount of time has stopped him from freaking out to the point of shaking and drooling everywhere and peeing himself, also no it's not "too big" of a crate, he barely has enough room to stand in it at this point and will still pee and then lay in the pee shaking and crying. Our dog is also now terrified of us. He won't do basic commands (sit, down, come, things he had mastered and did every single time without fail previously) after his experience with the e collar. He was completely fine while we were training him with it to get used to it but after we showed up for training and they took the controller to shock him themselves, he's been terrified. They turned it up way too high and shocked him more than he's ever been shocked at once before and for commands they had told us not to shock him for. Our bond is ruined and all of the money we spent and training we've done was essentially for nothing, it feels like now we need to completely start over because no matter what command we use he just shakes and tries to hide. Don't recommend if you love your dog and want to keep your bond with them. read more

This review will probably end up in the not recommended comments section. I don't know who is trying to shelter them from real reviews from real people who attended the training classes. I would NEVER recommend this business for training! I paid $800.00 (which was non-refundable). I took my dog there and started going through the training with her. The trainers treated the dogs like they were the enemy and the owners like they were idiots. When my dog peed in the middle of the training despite taking breaks, I could see how stressed out she was at the way she was being treated. What happened next...one of the trainers yelled at her and me for letting it happen! The place is a dump! You may not be looking for a fancy place, but this is ridiculous. The scariest thing of all is when I saw one of the trainers discipline a dog by picking it up off the ground by the leash attached to a prong collar. Not only is that wrong...it's abusive!! It is also worrisome that dog aggressive dogs can be in your class. Sure, they are wearing a colored bandana, but is that enough protection? Don't bother to go there if you respect yourself and your dog. read more

Took my Maltipoo puppy here for a grooming awhile back & the groomer (I believe her name was Kristina) did a OUTSTANDING job on my pup (who I know is difficult to groom because he can be a bit antsy). I appreciate that she took time in between each stage of the grooming process to make sure she didn't overwhelm my pup by moving to the next thing too quickly. Even though it went over the estimated amount of time. You can't beat the customer service & the great service of the groomer. She made my pup as comfortable as she possibly could I he loves her! Scary! Nothing but aggressively barking dogs in metal crates in stacked rows. This is NOT a daycare. This is a strict training facility. Dogs do not interact with other dogs or play. If you board your dog here, they will be alone most of the day with the exception of bathroom breaks (which they take solo). Sad, cold, dark, dismal, depressing. Owner was less than happy to take me on a tour. You can tell they specialize in training aggressive dogs. It's a big NO for us!! read more

So this was my second time taking my fur baby here...the 1st Rachel did an great job. This time...NOT SO MUCH. I dropped my west highland terrier off and when she called me back to get him.. I picked up a Chinese Crested!!!!!...OMG SHE BUTCHERED HIM...you can actually see sore on his neck. When I called her to complain and express my concerns about his skin being damaged by the harsh elements..she said PUT A SWEATER ON HIM!!!!A FUCKING SWEATER...UM...EXCUSE ME...BUT HE'S A DOG!!! He was born with a sweater(FUR)..SIGH!!!BUT WHAT REALLY torn my nerves up...SHE DIDNT SAY OH I'M SORRY...THE NEXT ONE IS ON THE HOUSE...NOR DID SHE OFFER A DISCOUNT. Koncepts is a top-notch training facility. Sure, it's tucked back in with a repo yard, but don't let the location fool you. Trainers here use praise and correction as needed, which results in balanced, well-behaved dogs. In addition to basic obedience training, classes such as advanced obedience and Schutzhund/protection are offered. The trainers (Kiki, James, Gail, and Bill) are always willing to help, and there is no set "time limit" on training; e.g. you're not "locked into" a 12-week course. Dogs and handlers are allowed to progress at their own pace, which is not the case from what I've seen with training at the big-box stores such as Petco/Petsmart. When I go out with my two German Shepherds, I constantly get comments on how well-behaved and calm they are. I have to thank Koncepts for showing me the way to raise a trained, balanced, and happy dog! read more

First of all, this groomer/training facility is NOT IN BROOKLYN, but outside the Dundalk area in Edgemere. I used Groupons for grooming services for two of my rescue dogs. This was their first grooming session and I was anxious about it. I was a bit disappointed that I never had a face to face with either of the groomers who worked on the pups ( dropped one at a time off on different days) either before or after grooming, but I did receive a call from one groomer just prior to her starting to work on the pup on the first day. We discussed what I wanted in terms of length, etc, and I informed her that since this was the first grooming, she was free to do what needed to be done to make him look handsome. She delivered in spades! The next day's session for the other pup was a bit challenging since this pup is more willful and not so cooperative. Even though there was a bit of a struggle on the dog's part to elude any attempt at being groomed, he also was returned to me in gorgeous shape. Neither had any nicks or cuts, even though both were closely shorn. The tail were all trimmed nicely, even the dew claws. A bandana was tied on the first pups neck, but I think that due to the issues with the second pup, they didn't want to stress him out to tie one on him. No issue for me, I completely understood. The front office gals stated that even though the second pup didn't do so well, they are willing to work with him again. So I've decided to get both of them bathed on a regular basis to get them used to the process. I would recommend this service to other dog owners. Only thing that wasn't clear to me was the cost of the grooming since a total wasn't quoted to me; as a matter of fact one gal didn't know how to process the Groupons, but I assume that was worked out internally. Everything was covered and then some, with the value of the Groupons I guess. read more

12 years ago we needed help. Our alpha++ female German Shepherd was nothing like all our past dogs. We went to K9 Koncepts for training and stayed on for IPO tracking training. Our dog eventually got the BH good behavior certification and an IPO II tracking award, and she was a great house dog and wonderful with our grandchildren. K9 boarded her as well when we traveled. Terrible in every way. I was really looking forward to the experience and training with my dog. If you are as well, I would consider finding another establishment. Maybe they'll take some things that I say and be professionals aka learn from it. I read the reviews, before going, to know what I was getting myself into. I didn't care about the filthiness. I was prepared for that. We were seeking protective training for our dog. Not necessarily to the level that they train some. I walked in (at previous location, but I was there during the transition, so have had "privilege" of being to both) ...walked in, obviously the new person. Everyone definitely knew each other and carried on with their conversations. My husband had been in fairly close contact with Bill, and they knew I was coming. I stood, restraining my dog, for a good 10-15 minutes, and at some point, I started to wonder when I was going to receive any sort of instruction of what to do. Keep in mind, this was my 1st time, and this was PROTECTIVE training. If you don't know exactly what that is, look it up so you can understand the level of seriousness that this should be taken, especially to those who run an establishment offering this particular service. There wasn't a lot of room for the amount of dogs and people in there. It became a concern for my safety, as well as my dog's. That 10-15 minutes (that's not an exaggeration, and that can be a long time to restrain a dog who weighs nearly as much as you -- not that I can't control my dog, bc I obviously can -- but...) ...that was too long not to be approached BY THE PERSON STANDING ALMOST IMMEDIATELY NEXT TO ME, CONVERSING, LAUGHING, in a circle of people. That approach most certainly should have been IMMEDIATE. The 1st day was to get a feel, for whether or not she (the dog) "had it in her," they said. My dog showed no motivation or interest toward the activities designed to get her going. Every other dog was going wild. Chatted later with the trainer and Kiki (the woman who chose to stand in her group of buddies, rather than greet a customer - also didn't give any introduction as to her name or how she was affiliated with the business), the trainer played his part in saying, "I think I can get you what you want." Although, they literally showed quite the opposite. I wasn't ready for commitment. I wasn't convinced, and it wasn't my decision to make alone. I was told to come back when my husband could come. We came back together, a few days later. Once again, they knew we were coming and what time. No one to greet us, give us instruction, or tell us what was going on. We put our dog in the kennel, as I had done the day before, and walked out to where we could see others standing. Kiki was once again standing with some buddies, in front of us, turned and looked at us, and turned back around. No smile, no wave, no hello, no instruction, and no explanation as to what was going on. No one said a word to us, and we stood and watched other people's dogs for a good 30 mins+ . Our dog was considered a "puppy," and it was now time for the puppies. We didn't understand what in the world was going on, and someone shouted, "Shouldn't they get their dog?" Kiki looked at us, and with a very unprofessional attitude, tone, and demeanor, said, "No, not until they pay! You all can't participate until you've signed up for the class and you've paid." And we were totally understanding. Well then we met Bill. I can't remember if he introduced himself or if we just knew it was him, but he was pleasant enough. We chatted with him a little about why we were seeking this training, etc. He asked where our dog was, and said, "Go get her. She should be doing this stuff, to see." One again, no response, reaction, or interest from our dog. None. We even talked with Bill after the activity was over, and he literally told us that our breed of dog just didn't have it in their heritage to be protective dogs. He didn't know exactly what kind of dog she was when he released that info to us. Then came business. Over the phone, Bill told my husband $2500 for protective training. Now it was $3000. We said ok, let's just start with the discipline component and see where that goes. $1000. He met with another new customer immediately after us, while still in the trailer, and gave her a puppy class AND obedience class for $800. Yeah. Went to 1 class, about 15 dogs on all different obedience levels, got NO individualized attention for a 1st-timer. Family issues arose, and we had to relocate. We reached out to them to explore refund options, and they acted so very unprofessional (surprise!). We did not get a fair amount of $ back, and getting that amount wasn't even easy. Our mistake to sign up after so many red flags, but they just kept coming. So glad to be done dealing with them. Not good people. read more

We were referred to K-9 Koncepts from my brother and his in-laws who in total have 3 German Shepherds. I spoke to the owner (Bill) over the phone before I went and explained that I had unknowingly adopted a shepherd with issues. Bill was very straightforward about his commitment in making the dog livable. After sitting down with him I was struck by his honesty, knowledge and genuine care for the dogs. Here is the reason I wanted to write this review. Most importantly, my wife and I are thoroughly satisfied with the level of training that we have received thus far in the first 5 weeks. We feel they really KNOW and UNDERSTAND dog behavior and how our interactions with them can screw them up. Second (and probably more important) the place is not in the best location and the facility just is what it is supposed to be. A place to train dogs. It ain't pretty. Honestly I could care less. If you are a snob like me you need to listen to what Bill and the staff say and overlook the facility. Just follow their directions because its just as much you being trained as your dog. I dropped my dogs off for boarding and grooming. When I picked up the dogs, I barely recognized my one dog because the groomer decided to shave his head (which was not agreed upon when I dropped him off). Nor did she call to tell me she was going to do it. It was a complete surprise! The reason that she did it was because my dog had a mat in his ear, so she shaved his entire head. When I brought him home, I noticed him acting strange and shaking his head. When I took a look at his ears both ears were cut and the tip and infected. There was also a cut on his tail! I had to take him to the vet to get medicine because the infection was so bad! We are still dealing with complications from this groom today! I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE! I was very disappointed. Especially after the 150 vet bill I had to paid in addition to the terrible hair cut my dog received. read more

Honest to goodness training - we were having issues with aggression with our shepherd pup and now we get compliments on how well trained and behaved he is when out.
