He wanted to get to know us and our pup first, so we met up and had a chat about what our dog's personality and walking style is like. I thought our dog was quirky, but turns out Chris had experience with Shepherds and knew about their quirks already, which was reassuring for us first time Shepherd owners ;) Chris is always prompt and takes longggg walks with our pup to make sure she's nice and tired. He is respectful of our wishes of not running our dog since her breed is prone to hip/joint issues, and our dog is always glad to see him because she knows she's in for a treat! Chris will even send us pictures of the two of them on walks; I like that I can keep up with him on Instagram. He even pulled through for us on our wedding day and kept the dog busy for us so we could enjoy our Best Day Ever :) Chris is enthusiastic about every one of his canine clients, and that is commendable because dog walking is a lot of work! I see Chris out and about all over Newport, so he's always taking dogs to walk cool places, even if its blazing hot out! I would definitely recommend Chris and Newport Beach Active Paws!

I searched for months not sure when or who to pull the trigger with for starting training, pored through reviews, some referrals on local groups that seemed a little too good to be true to trust, etc. One of my 'final' ones was going to be Epic but I was worried we'd just be a number there when we had a pretty complex situation. So I found Kona Loca, saw that Christienne was her own small business, had good reviews here but also under her name at her time at the previous place, and decided to go for it. I don't regret it at all!! Christienne is great! She's very friendly, explains behavior concepts very well, does not provide judgment, and she absolutely knows what she's doing. I wanted to stick with her for my very anxious/incredibly insecure rescue dog because she has her own dog with similar characteristics. I initially wanted board and train for both my dogs, but she assessed the insecure one and suggested personal 1:1 training at home and community that might be more effective. If she was all about just the $ she could've just agreed with my push to board and train and I really appreciated that. Our 1 year old pit/staffy puppy Violet (love her) was kind of a nightmare. Constantly aggravating our adult dogs, barking and patrolling, no manners in any sense, just some basic commands *sometimes*. She did the 2 week off leash tailblazer with Bert and we can't even believe she's the same dog. This may be obvious but we NEVER would've considered taking her somewhere like the park or beach even on leash before because she was a headache, and now we can walk her off leash and trust her! She has a working mentality now and it exhausts her every single day so she is generally calm and chill after we work with her (just small training sessions doing her commands in the yard). Bert was excellent and provided text, photo, and video updates everyday, he is very friendly as well and gave us a very in depth training session once she came back home. He also followed up to ensure things were going smoothly and to see if we had any questions. Highly recommend and have personal experience with both Bert and Christienne and will continue recommending!

Doug is my first dog on my own, and we started working with Cara when he was about a year old (aka: a crazy teenager). We've gone through both of Cara's training courses (Paws 1 & 2), and not only does Doug use these core obedience skills nearly every day, but Cara also taught ME how to communicate with Doug effectively, how to be a strong leader, and how to build trust between Doug and I as he's grown up. Our biggest behavior issues have been Doug's socialization with other dogs and leash pulling on walks. He's always been a bit shy around other dogs and developed mild leash reactivity as he got older. We worked with Cara in a one-on-one training session, and not only do I know how to handle interactions with other dogs now, but Doug has made a great improvement in his behavior around other dogs as well. We also worked on walking in the heel position, and to this day I'm still kind of shocked that he is able to calmly walk by my side instead of dragging me around the neighborhood on his leash. Her prices are fair, especially considering the tremendous results I've seen in Doug. She's very reliable, communicative, and fun to work with. I'm so grateful Doug and I found her!

My Dash and Jack have been going to Emily's for over a year. My Dash is social with dogs but stuck…read moreup with people but he gave Emily kisses right away. Jack is a little anxious so Emily takes extra care of him to keep him calm and happy! They are both super spoiled with her and love when they go to her home. They usually stay overnight and Emily is always helpful and accommodating. There shortest stay has been a day and the longest about 10 days. Emily has also come to the house to walk them when her house is full.

I am *that* person that views their dog as their child and his care is of the upmost importance to me. We had never left our golden retriever with anyone other than family, but since we moved out of state, that was no longer an option. We had a situation where we had to leave and could not bring our boy with us and it caused us a tremendous amount of stress wondering what we would do. As soon as we met with Emily, I knew she would love and care for him just as we would. She listened to our concerns and understood our worries about leaving him with someone other than family for the first time. She was even on board with us doing a 'trial run' sleepover prior to us leaving to make sure he felt comfortable. Our boy now runs to her front door, walks in her house with his toys, and turns around to look at us like...bye mom and dad, have a good time! He absolutely loves staying with Emily and socializing with other dogs. Emily texted us pictures and updates every single day - she will never truly know how much that was appreciated! He was living his absolute best life playing in her yard, throwing his frisbee, going to the dog parks and even the dog beach! We didn't think he'd want to come home! We live, with traffic, an hour or so from Emily but if she was 5 hours away, I would make the drive...no question about it.
