The place is usually quite sterile (in the sense that they have no special features, they remain filthy) and in general its just not a very invigorating experience. "3 siu jeh" is a very a different place in itself- if you note how long the queue is during dinner then you know must have something that keeps brining people back here. To start with, you can always buy seafood at the wet market downstairs and bring it up here to be cooked by these people. That's something special that you won't see much of outside of Saikung. The second thing is that they serve a lot of special dishes themselves (e.g. the crab in sticky rice is a must) and their "stir fry" items are also a constant source of joy. The seating arrangement might not be idea and half the time the staff just seem to stuff you in the most convenient corner for them to serve you. The other problem is that this place is full EVERYTIME you come here, from the carpark to the table you are constantly playing a waiting game which tests your patience even if you were a saint. Prices are not cheap either for a place that could be said be a little better than a street side stall. Would I recommend it? Yes, on account of the food here I would come here and try it but I have become a lot less enthusiastic than before and I suspect that a lot of people have joined the ranks of people looking elsewhere given Taipo's long list of choices.

I did a quick search and found this seafood restaurant around a residential district on the riverside - Garden Rivera in English. Usually, nearby residential areas in Tai Wai and Sha Tin can you find some pretty good local family-run restaurants, and Rivervine was no exception. Not simply this, but the restaurant was super cheap and has now become a worthy contender to some Sai Kung seafood eateries because of its proximity to the abode. Although it calls itself a seafood restaurant, its signature dishes actually consist of: chicken and abalone congee, and roast pigeon. Now, there are a few roast pigeon places in both Tai Wai and Sha Tin that have become renowned across the foodiesphere in Hong Kong, so I wasn't bringing my hopes up about this particular dish - especially since, in conjunction with the congee, it comes at the super deal of 52 bucks. (The congee on its own is $18.... so yes, don't expect real abalone, and don't expect much of the imitation either.) The pigeon was just so-so, not as tender or as succulent as other places, but for how much it cost - a pretty damn good deal, and if you're like me, you're just gonna dip it in the excellently roasted salt anyway so you won't really be able to discern any subtle flavours if there were. The congee was good, mainly because the two odds pieces of chicken were so perfectly salty and complemented the jok well. The abalone imitation, I think sea whelk is usually the textural substitute, was fine - and portioned so that each person had one slice each. What do you expect for $18? As for seafood, the quality of the cooking doesn't really come close to the Sai Kung seafood masters but you're paying considerably less. There is an ongoing deal for $158 - you pick three seafood items on the menu, including scallops with garlic vermicelli, razorclams, and crab with ginger and scallions. The razorclams were so fat and juicy, and we asked for black bean razorclams, so they had onions and red peppers fried with them too. The scallops were fresh, and they served us four pieces (!!!), but the vermicelli was a little overcooked so it wasn't very nice to eat with the scallops. In all, there's definitely a return visit in the works, especially when we can't be bothered to head all the way to Sai Kung for a seafood fix.

In contrast, Victoria Harbor served me a delightful hot goose with very little fat under the crispy skin. The flesh was moist, moderately soft, and tasty. Yung Kee will only serve their best geese to their VIP diners. Victoria Harbor, in contrast, will serve the exact same high quality geese to ALL their diners. Atmosphere (**** out of *****); Average large Chinese restaurant. Service (** out of *****); Because they can get really busy sometimes, their staff might be overwhelmed at times. Sometimes, you get good service, but other times, you get poor service and have to flag down the waiter for everything. Downside, their AC needs maintenance, and the waiters are a bit too casual, but they're on par with the norm in Hong Kong.

First of all it gives me a chance to get out of town out of the hustle and bustle. Upon arrival I'm pleasantly surprised by the view and the small fishing village that this restaurant is in, people here are more relaxed and friendly, the interior decor is modern and inviting. We ordered some dim sum to see how the quality is and again pleasantly surprised by the Dim Sum Chef's technique and his skills to produce authentic and original flavours! One of the best I have to recommend is the Steamed BBQ Pork Buns, the bun is very fluffy and light, the filling is just right not too sweet or fatty! You have to try it!
