We stopped by on a Saturday night after another event, since it popped up as one of the only places…read moreclose to our location that was open and serving food since it was after 10pm. The parking lot was actually full so we had to park on the side. They had security at the door to search you before entering. It's actually a pretty large open space, with seating, slot machines, a pool table, and a dance floor. The DJ was high energy and played to the crowd. There were actually quite a few menu options and we went with the fried cauliflower bites and chicken wings and shrimp. The food was ok. It looked good - but wasn't seasoned. Overall, not a bad spot to try if you're in the area.

We were looking for a bar atmosphere to sit and just hang. Bartender was friendly and gave us the…read morelow down on food and specials and they also have frozen drinks. The bar stools we were told were recently changed-the old ones were worse- and they can use another improvement. They are still too short for the bar if you eat there. Your elbows are up to your shoulders when eating, do yourself a favor and go to a table. Other than that, the inside was nice and the music was good. The sign is off to the side so keep going past the Subway and you will find it. There was also the dreaded liquor meter. Some nights I think there is a cover. We ordered the catfish and chicken wing basket that came with fries. The fries were good and crispy. The chicken was good and was seasoned. I was not a fan of the coating but it was okay. The fish I did not get into much as the coating was not for me. They did offer sauces on the side or on the food and that was good. My friend had the garlic parmesan which he liked, i had the buffalo hot sauce.

UPDATE 6/27/13 BACK OPEN AGAIN -- SAME GREAT OLE....COME ON DOWN…read more UPDATE: Freeh's has been closed since first week in May -- much to the dismay of their regulars. this week (May 16?) a sign was added saying "reopening soon" all blinds are drawn, and word on the street is that the owner is deciding whether to carry on or not....bar can't be resold without bringing it up to code, (handicapped accessible) so we can only hope the owner feels the love and re-opens the dive doors! Love the burgers (chips, no fries) at this little hole-in-the-wall. Steps from the metra electric, it's the perfect meeting (or dropping off point) when friends from chicago brave a ride to the south burbs. Good juke box, good bartenders (who tend to be there whether it's their shift or not) , pint draft beers and made-to-order burgers in a basket are their calling cards. (The kitchen hours just changed, with a cut off of 8:00 p.m., i believe during the week.) If you remember the first Freeh's you are officially old, as this one's been there for years and years and YEARS. It's in a charming little old downtown (my chicago friend just moons after the eternally for sale old bank building next door which wold make an uber-cute loft space if anyone that hip wanted to live down here (and fight for the zoning variance that would require.) anyway, this is a dependable, nothing fancy, diverse crowd-drawing neighborhood joint where you can't go wrong. They watch the usual sports -- but if there are no sports on anything goes -- including Stooge-a-palooza and Son of Svenghoulie, so be warned. Only downer - they are closed on Sundays unless the Bears play.

The catfish is incredibly good. My 99 year old mother made this a staple of her diet on Fridays.read more

Now that I think of it, I thought it was weird that there were several fans going all over the bar...water issues? Anyway, after eating our pizza, we left and caught the owner, Phil, on the way out. We told him the pizza was good and that maybe he needs to mention that soft drink refills are not free. I know it's not a big deal, but I just assumed at a place that presents itself as an upscale bar, with a "chef", that would be the case. Oh well, I paid over $8 for 3 ice filled pints of Diet Coke. I'm just saying it would have been nice to have been told that by the bartender. Then this guy goes on about he can't do that and that he has free music so that should be enough and he'd go broke if he gave away free refills of Coke! He was all huffy at that point and I have no idea what he was talking about. So to calm the situation I asked him about his live music and began to tell him that I am trying to rebrand the hall at our local VFW and he cuts me off to snap at me, "Good luck with that! Try to get 25 people in that place! Ha! Ha! Ha!" as he turned and was walking away from me. I was in udder shock! What?! It's the local VFW Hall and I'm trying to help out our veterans?! My entire point was before he cut me off, the hall holds way more people than his little, bitty place and I wanted to offer the hall so he can book larger acts. Oh well! His loss! Not really sure what this guy's deal is but it seems like my experience is a common one with him! Read the other reviews! Wow! In this day and age an owner shouldn't treat customers like this. Especially after they just spent good money in his place. SMH. Never again! Plenty of other options in the area to spend my money.
