Rushes to check me out--Sunday evening, not busy. I put in my phone number and it was the wrong number. I told him I need to try another number. He proceeds to tell me he can't do it and rings up my groceries without changing my number. I told him I wanted to input the right number in. He proceeds to tell me I've got to go the main desk to get my number applied. He made no attempt to get help and learn how to make the change. I had to take my food to the front desk. Eventually got the right number in at the front desk 15 minutes later and saved about $3.50 because of being a frequent buyer. Just to add something else there was an older couple in front of me and when he gave them their change back, there were penny's involved. He ran out. He made no effort to call someone to get change he just asked them if they cared. They said no but he shouldn't have even asked. Look this kid seemed arrogant and like he didn't care. He should never be working a checkout. He'd be better off stocking shelves!! He needs better training. Very sad that hasn't been trained better. Disappointed.

When I finally got their attention, they told me the scale was broken, which added more time to my wait. When I tried to buy some heated deli items instead, I found out there were none available, even though it was still early in the afternoon. She did provide me with the deli items. When I got home, I realized they gave me a pound of turkey instead of chicken, and it cost over $11. I'm not a fan of turkey, so I was very disappointed. I know that talking to the management won't help, as this store is the only one in town and seems to disregard customer concerns. I've also noticed expired items on sale and brought them to Customer Service, but they don't seem to take it seriously. I think the corporate office needs to investigate the situation at the Manning Walmart more closely.

Listen, I've helped manage businesses a lot over 30 years, and respectfully, their Math ain't Mathin'. Maybe I could level with it if they had ALDI's prices, but it's WALMART prices. This has been the reality for several businesses as we feel the economy on our backs, but Walmart and the indecisive McDonalds - two giants - are easily my biggest contenders. The checkout lady was competent. She even thanked me for bringing my recycling bags, asked me how my visit was and invited me to come back to the store. The bagger was pleasant. He happily bagged my items and as I exited, I believe it was a manager, smiled and bade me farewell. Two thumbs up. This is a model class in grocery store customer service. I will be back.

When I visit my family in Rural Williamsburg County, Food Lion is my go-to. It has 95% of what we need without having to travel to Georgetown or Conway to a big-box store. This is the only grocery store that Hemingway has, so the other options are convenience stores or dollar stores. Food Lion has a deli, bakery, and meat area, with a large parking lot out front. I grew up nearby and remember getting my high school graduation cake from that bakery. It was a good cake, and I'm pretty sure they did most every graduation cake in town. The employees are generally nice and if asked, will help you take food out to your car (important when the population is older). The fruits and vegetables are pretty good and I saw more healthy options than I anticipated. While not healthy, this store always has great deals on 12-packs of soda, and ice cream is on sale every week- my mom loves the Ben and Jerry's. Get an MVP card so you can take advantage of all the sales. Food Lion is the "king" of this food desert, hands down.
