This place services a lot more than just VA. I live in MD at the national harbor and they were able to help me. I was getting price qoutes of insane prices just to.have folks come and look. They charge a flat $100 and if you elect their services that $100 is credited to the overall bill. In my case i needed a new HVAC guy as my last one stopped providing quality service. This company came out and troubleshoot my system. Educated me on how my last HVAC guy probably took advantage of me and explained how. Best part, no hard sell for extra services or extra equipment. I even asked about why all the negative yelp reviews. They explained how it was a period of time when they were doing home warranty work. Which lined up with all the negative comments i saw. This proved to me they were honest! This is my company i use and will refer to anyone.l! read more

Where do I start? AHS sent K&J out to work on our A/C. Our coil was leaking and we had an old unit that took crappy refrigerant. After a bit of a mix up (basically it was that super hot weekend and I was out of patience). Mr. Thomas called me personally to explain to me what needed to be done. I really needed someone to talk me through it and I wasn't getting that from AHS. So in the end it made sense to replace the unit. I bought a TRANE (because nothing stops a TRANE) on Thursday and it was installed the following Monday. The technicians were courteous and quick! They didn't mind me being nosy and peeking in to watch either, which is a big plus on my end. I however do not recommend AHS at the moment, that's another story. read more

Zero stars, I was out of town and my friend that lives 4 minutes away agreed to meet them, she was waiting on my call to head to the house. I informed the dispatch 5 minutes she would be there. They pulled away as she arrived. They refused to wait. But the flip side is you are expected to wait from 8 am to 1pm. I received a phone call when they were pulling up, no notice before that. I let their dispatcher know that she was max 5 minutes away, updated her after my friend verified she was on her way. They left as she got there. Rudest, most inconsiderate receptionist. When the appointment was made I made them aware I was going to be out of town and that I would need to make arrangements. If I could give this company NO STARS I would. I HAD american home shield and they sent K&J. They diagnosed a bad fan motor in my heat pump. Three weeks later they got a new fan motor. Three weeks in the blistering July heat what a joke. K&J reported that they had the motor but before they would come out and replace it I needed to pay $425. K&J submitted to AHS that the wiring shorted out. The motor shorted out nothing else did yet K&J reported the heat pump needed to be rewired. It didnt it was wiring the new motor (plug it into the location the old one came out of). I stood with them and watched what they did. It was total BS and K&J is a ripoff. I called AHS they blamed K&J and K&J said it was AHS charging it but its total crap. I canceled AHS and said I am done. As for K&J your company will NEVER see another dime from me or ANYONE I know. A little background, I have a home warranty through American Home Shield. I called AHS to send a technician as I was receiving critical error messages on my unit. While my heat was still currently working, AHS dispatched a contractor to my home who was not properly certified to work on my Carrier Infinity System. Of course he messed the entire job up and left me without heat in the coldest weeks of the year. K&J was the second contractor assigned to my case. LaKisha at their reception immediately got me scheduled for a visit the next day. Thomas was my technician, he came out and was clearly very knowledgeable about my system and what he was doing. Through the entire process I received the best customer service! It did take a few visits to get my unit working however this was because the first contractor messed it up so bad. Thomas and LaKisha kept in contact with me through the entire process, letting me know when it was best to call and put pressure on the warranty company and getting me scheduled for visits as soon as possible. They were both empathetic and went out of their way to get my heat back on as quickly as possible. They will be my first call for heating problems going forward! read more

I have American Home Shield and they sent K & J to my home at the end of June. They told me that I needed to have modifications done and parts replaced. This cost me $1635.00 because it wasn't covered under my warranty. 2 weeks later my AC goes out again. They come out and tell me we intentionally cut a cord on the outside unit. Who does that? Why would I do that? That "intentional damage" of course isn't covered under the warranty. The work they did in the attic caused a leak in the ceiling requiring me to call the plumber also. I am waiting to see the price on the "intentional damage" that isn't covered by the home warranty. If I could take the 1 star away I would. read more

This is an amazing and honest company. The owner has assisted with my new home and has always given prompt and honest service. I'm afraid the one star reviews don't actually give an accurate portrayal of the company. As one prior review states, he has two one star reviews and take a hint. If you read the prior reviews, it doesn't take a genius to figure out it is an issue with the warranty companies. I am a real estate attorney and deal with these companies all the time. I have had two clients have their home warranty company refuse to repair their air conditioners this week. Basically, the warranty company for $500 a year and a $75 service charge says they will fix your major appliances and HVAC. When you call them, they assign a technician who at a discount will do your repair. The technician then needs to see if your warranty company will cover the costs of the repair and part. I believe the warranty company drags it's feet most times with HVAC. To conclude, just consider every one star review is from someone with a warranty company. read more

A few years ago they fixed my A/C and were absolutely wonderful. They came out 2 weeks ago and repaired my unit because they are one of the companies my home warranty works with. The receptionist is probably the rudest person individual I spoken to in quite a while. When it came down to the day service was to be completed, she called saying they didn't have a technician in my area and it would have to be another day but only between 8 and 6. The technician was very loud even when told we had a night shift nurse sleeping in the home. They didn't leave a completed work order sheet showing what they repaired. It broke again the next week and again last night. They declined to repair it and I have another company coming out tomorrow. They gave me a specific time frame of 8-11. American Home Shield (AHS) sent K&J Heating & Air, LLC to my house to address my A/C not working in the dead of July, on the hottest Summer ever recorded. The K&J technician told me the unit was 19+ years old and putting any money into it, 'would be putting good money after bad'. I agree, it makes no economic sense to replace parts in an old, inefficient unit like this. However, K&J seems to make their diagnoses based on what they believe AHS will accept, versus what is in the best interest of their customers. K&J gave ME a quote where I am asked to pay $3,100 of non-covered costs, to make the evaporator coil repair (mostly R22 freon which is being phased out). Then they gave me another quote for $6,500 to replace the entire unit AT MY EXPENSE b/c AHS will not replace the unit if its repairable. All I asked K&J to do was be honest with AHS and repeat what their technician told me, that the unit should be replaced based on its age and condition. That would have been the right thing to do, in the best interest of their customer. They refused to do that. Therefore THE CUSTOMER WITH THE AHS WARRANTY will now have to pay for their own A/C unit replacement because K&J would not report to AHS what they told me. Even if they perceive AHS as to deny the recommendation, that is my dispute with AHS, and not theirs. K& J seemed more interested in pleasing AHS than they did their customer. All I asked was for them to be honest and do the right thing. It is predicted to be 106F where I live this week and I have no A/C, but I do have a useless home warranty:-)! I will never allow KJ on my property again. If I could give negative stars I would. BTW - They were at my house 34 days before my A/C went out and the put in 3# of freon at a COST TO ME of $450 (per the AHS Agreement). 34 days later, A/C unit crashes again. AHS says the contractor's work is warranted for 30 days and I was 4 days out of warranty. This is the type of company you are dealing with. Unfortunately I can see from the other posts about KJ that my experience is not unusual. Buyer beware! read more

I wish I could give them no stars whatsoever. As many other reviewers have said, K&J Mechanical is the worst of the worst in terms of service providers. I have been without air since April 29, 2017 until now and they have not done the work required. American Home Shield commissioned K&J them to provide service on my central air conditioning, so after 40 days of no results, American Home Shield bears the burden as well K&J. American Home Shield do not back you up when service providers don't live up to their commitment. Do not engage American Home Shield as your home warranty company and certainly DO NOT commission K&J Mechanical to do any type of repairs. Perhaps you get this terrible service if you are referred by a home warranty company. Perhaps K&J service the big jobs that pay them more money, or perhaps they are taking on too many customers and are unable to service them properly or the obvious, just poor business practices. I do not even feel ok with giving them 1 star. Our AC went out on 4/6/22. Called our American Home Shield Warranty and they sent out the the Oxon Hill. Maryland, K & J Mechanical NOVA technician. He said it was the airflow handler in the attic causing all of our freon to leak out. Our warranty replaced the part but we had to pay for the freon, which they quoted $1580. We weren't happy but agreed to pay. May 24, 2022, the tech comes back with a partner to install the part and the freon. Well, when it was time to leave we realized that we were charged $200 over agreed price. This guy got so ugly and unprofessional that I just signed the invoice that he zoomed into the signature area of. If I didn't he threatened to put a lien on our home and threatened to go back in our attic and take the part and freon that we paid for. My husband was at work and called to speak to them about their upcharge once he got the emailed invoice. They got their sneaky receptionist at office to take $1780 off our credit card and they abruptly left. My husband saw they took the extra $200 and called them back telling them it was illegal and that's not what AHS said it would be. My neighbors were blown away at their their threatening behavior because they came back to our house to remove a part and my husband said do not let them in. They left when we says we were calling the police and 30 minutes later they did refund the $200 back to credit card. I had a friend over that day and we both were afraid of the technicians. I just wanted them out of our home! We reported their behavior to AHS. They were very upset. But wait, there's more. On June 4, around 7 p.m. our unit goes out again the exact same way it did on April 6th. We notified warranty company but there was no way those crooks were coming back here so they sent another company that said it was always the compressor and K & J Mechanical never fixed the actual leak. Well I reached out via email to tell them they didn't fix the problem. They replied they are only 3rd party call Warranty problem. Their receptionists is beyond rude and if we can save any other family from being out thousands of dollars then we will. This has been an absolute nightmare. We have learned to look up any company referred to us by our home warranty. Their reviews are awful and it seems that history keeps repeating itself. They don't fix the problem and they take your money and the receptionist is just rude! They are all rude and unprofessional! I'm still blown away from this awful experience! Stay away from this fraudulent company. K&J was hired by AHS warranty company to replace my HVAC system. I had to pay out of pocket on items that AHS would not cover. My unit was replaced and had had multiple problems until it finally broke after the year warranty. They ended up reusing the original air line set (that I was charged for) and "pinching" it to part of a new line that was not the same size. This caused a leak and break to my new unit. They refuse to give me an itemize bill which AHS even notified them to do.I was told by another technician that I was charged for items that they did not replace. Also the work was not done to code and Thomas even "concurred". If you have in the past or plan on hiring this company, make sure you take pictures and keep itemize bills. Look into your bill to make sure items were actually replaced. Thomas even informed me multiple times that he only trusted Cory and all the others were not reliable. This explains why it took them almost 10 hours (2 days) to replace my unit. Also, the receptionist is rude and just terrible. She started to yell at me and informed me that they would not do anything that was free even if it was their fault and then hung up. I see past reviews this is an ongoing problem with the attitude and nothing is done about it. When I informed Thomas of her unprofessional attitude and what she had told me, he stated something would be done. Obviously customers opinions do not matter because she is still there. All I say is look at all the negative reviews, this will let you know if any complaints are really taken serious. And if there is anyone that experience the same issue, report it to DPOR and BBB. I just reported my complaint to DPOR and will with BBB next. DO NOT use this company for your AC or heating repair needs, especially if you are working with a home warranty company! I was assigned K&J to diagnose my AC unit, and it was simply the replacement of the fan motor. Slam dunk easy repair. However, K&J's service report listed the repair as a "modification" when it was a simple 30 minute part replacement (fan motor). Any "modification" report submitted to a home warranty company appears as if you are truly "modifying" your unit instead of the normal wear and tear fix. As such, the warranty would not cover it and the expectation is that I pay $600 out of my pocket for a part replacement. Tried to discuss it with K&J on the terminology and they would not listen. Went with a different company as a result and would never recommend K&J. As a matter of fact, I requested the home warranty company remove them from their approved contractor list. This will cost home owners with a home warranty money out of their pocket which they should not have to pay. read more

When I called them, they told me that they had no intention of doing the work, the warranty company sends them to many work orders, and the lady that always answers the phone is too busy to even call the warranty company or the customer that they do not intend to do the work. K & J came out as a contractor to American Home Shield. I called for service July 10. They didn't schedule me until July 17- 7 days later. Two crews came out. All of the freon had leaked out. They pressured the system up with Nitrogen and checked the area of the compressor and couldn't find anything. They went to the attic and couldn't find anything. Then they said they found the leak at a valve on the suction line. They said they needed parts and that took another week. They came out to change the part, and said they couldn't remove the part and needed another part. A couple of days later they came out and changed the part and filled the system up with freon. The next day the freon had all leaked out. They sent another crew out and tested the repair and said it was leaking. Then four days later they came out and fixed the repair area and this time gave the system a good test before they filled it with freon. They determined there was still a leak somewhere. Went back up in the attic and said the evaporator coil had a leak and would need to be replaced. At this point I gave up and brought in another contractor to change out my system. I requested a refund for the freon that had leaked out and was refused the request. I was told to talk to American Home Shield if I wanted a refund. This was a horrible experience for me. This was a rental house and I had to go over to the house 6 times to meet K&J and never got the problem fixed. As I said, I went to another contractor who was responsive to my needs and had the system replaced and up and running in 3 days. read more

I was sent to K&J Mechanical through 2-10 HBW since my AC unit broke during the hot wave that the DMV area was going through on 7/22/16. K&J was supposed to come out on Monday to take a look at the unit but they didn't even show up. I waited for them all day and they said that they sent someone out and I was not home. This is ridiculous!! My roommates and I were home all day and waited for them. No one ever showed up at our door or called us. K&J said that they need to order the evaporation coil for my unit and they tried to charge 2-10 HBW with duct work modification to get the outside unit replaced. Seriously, why would you need to get a duct work mod if you work on the outside unit? If it's the inside then it would make sense. I called 2-10 again to get the status of the part order and they told me that the part will be at the warehouse on Wednesday to pick up. I let K&J know on Tuesday night by texting Thomas the status. I then called K&J on Wednesday morning to make sure that they will go and pick it up. Again, not surprisingly, no one picked up. I tried calling a few more times and still no luck. I called again early Thursday morning and I was lucky enough to get a hold of someone (Thomas?). He said that he sent someone out to pick up the part and will check if that is the right part and will call me back to schedule an installation date. I waited the whole day and didn't hear anything from them. I called them back again and didn't get much luck. I called 2-10 again and they got a hold of K&J and K&J said that the part isn't there when they came to the warehouse. I told 2-10 to provide me with the warehouse phone number so I can personally call and verify that myself. They provided me with the Carrier warehouse number at 1-800-760-2736 and my purchase order. I called the warehouse and the warehouse technician picked up and verified that the part is "physically" at the warehouse and is ready to be pick up. I called 2-10 HBW again to let them know that information and told them to call K&J so they can go and pick it up. So here I am, still waiting and have no clues of when K&J will call and fix my AC unit. The AC has been broken for about 2 weeks now (since 7/22) and I have been waiting for K&J to keep me informed of my status but barely get any information from them. I tried to call 2-10 and get the contractor business relation to file a complain but I could not get a direct number to do so. Apparently, the relationship between 2-10 HBW and K&J isn't the best relationship for homeowner like me. I hope that they need to work harder at doing a better job. Oh yeah, and K&J told me that they're working on to improve their customer service and try to have a 2-days turnaround for their work. Sadly, I am the unfortunate one that is not getting the special privilege. I hope someone from K&J gets this message before my AC get fixed so they can call me directly. read more

NOT what I would want representing my business. I was advised someone would show up "sometime between 8-5, but would call when in route." It's currently 6:28 pm, no show, no call. Basically, a day's worth of wages lost while waiting for nothing. Supposedly this is a 24 hour service, but the phones roll over to voicemail, advising me my call will be returned during normal business hours. Meanwhile, we STILL have no AC. It's probably important to consider that people are more likely to complain about a bad experience, than write about a good one. I was initially very skeptical about the quality of the service I would receive from this company, as they were automatically hired by American Home Shield fulfill my warranty. My A/C was blowing room temperature air and a weekend of 90 degree temperatures was forecast. Initially, I did not hear back from the company. I waited a day and then reached out. The employee answering the phone was extremely courteous and apologized for not contacting me earlier. She called me back about 10 minutes later to tell me they would send a tech out the same day. About 4 hours later, I got a text telling me the technician was on his way, with a link to a site to track his travel. To be fair, the tracking was not very accurate, so if it says "50 minutes away," that might really mean 30. Either way, after receiving this notification, I also received a call from the office to confirm. Cory and his assistant were extremely polite and did a good job of explaining the problem. He installed a temporary part to get the unit working again and placed an order for the original part, to be installed upon arrival. He was careful to point out that he had written "Job Not Complete" on the invoice. They finished the job in about 45 minutes. If there were some negative experiences with this company before, it seems like they have made a concerted effort to improve customer service. I was impressed and would use again. read more

Could not give higher rating. Pros: quick appointment and polite technicians. Cons: 1) unprofessional telephone representative-not a good representation a company should have. Home insurance assigned this company - so we agreed. 2) Technicians diagnosed the problem and quoted a substantial amount of out-of-pocket expense in addition to warranty covered items. The problem was not the pricing. The diagnosed problems were baffling to us. We hired two more local large companies to inspect our unit for 2nd & 3rd opinions. Each of the two companies agreed in their diagnostic review, which completely contradicted K&J. For example, a unit fully filled with Freon should not be reported as "empty." Nor should it cost close to $100 per pound of Freon. This is an example. Our opinion of K&J is that they were dishonest in their service diagnoses to us and we will not use them or recommend their company. read more

Worst. Company. Ever. I was assigned this company through AHS. It seemed alright at first. They came out and did an inspection, quoted the repair, and said we would have to wait a week for the part. I asked them to submit their insurance and certification paperwork certifying them legit AC techs to my condo association, which is required to do work in my building. Well it wasn't hot yet so that was okay... a week turned into two, two turned into three. I was calling weekly and every time they'd make up some excuse why the part wasn't in. Then all of a sudden after I contacted AHS, they said the part came in. Fine, I just wanted my AC repaired. Set up an appointment and the day and time came and they never showed. I called and they told me that they had to reschedule and even got nasty with me (even though they didn't inform me of it until I called them). I was pretty furious but kept my cool. I contacted AHS again and they started to become suspicious as well. They couldn't get ahold of them to discuss the discrepancy. They contacted me though and scheduled another appointment and I reminded them that they still hadn't submitted the proper paperwork. They then started asking why they needed to submit the paperwork... I didn't know what the issue was if they were legit. They wouldn't provide the paperwork so I contacted AHS. Finally AHS was fed up as well so they authorized a different company and this company didn't even need the part to complete the repair!!! Moral of the story is... horrible customer service, scam artists, and most likely not insured or certified to conduct HVAC maintenance/etc. Please save yourself and never use this company. read more

I have been waiting for them to replace a blade on my AC unit since April 17th! They have called twice with an appointment, with a time window between 9:00-5:00. Both of those times they made those appointments without having the part in hand. They then would text, not call, at 7:40 pm, to say that the part has not yet arrived. This company was assigned to me by American Home Shield. Once I received the assignment I looked up the reviews on here and on the Better Business Bureau. I was immediately concerned based on published reviews and contacted American Home Shield to request an alternate contractor. Unfortunately, they were not able to allow for this and so I decided to make the best of it. I called and set up my appt with K&J and spoke with Kelly. She was very helpful. Gave me an appt. for three days out with a service window of 8a-6pm but stated they would call ahead of the appointment 30-60 min to alert us of their arrival. On the day of the appointment, I did receive a call from Lakesha at 3:23 pm letting me know they were on their way. I told her my husband was leaving his office and would meet them there but it would take about 20 min. She said ok. The technicians arrived and my husband was not home but there was someone at the house who could let them in. Lakesha then called back and said they would not wait for my husband and that they were not being allowed in the house. I told her they were offered to go in but would not because according to the technician Lakesha told them not to go in. I also informed her that my husband was pulling into the neighborhood at which point she said, "he has minute to get here". Moments later my husband did arrive. Technician refused to roll down his window to speak and stated he was told to leave. My last conversation with LaKesha occured at 3:50 pm which by the way is within the 30 minute timeframe of the 9 hour service window they gave me. From being on the phone and hearing the stories of the family members present and speaking with the technicians I can assure you there is ZERO customer service training with this company. They did not even arrive in a vehicle that indicated they could do any type of service work. I am grateful that they left because even if competent technicians (which does not look likely from reviews) this is not the company I would want in my home. My advice is to not allow your home warrenty company to send these people to your home. Demand another company. Do not take "no" for an answer as I did. Read the reviews and go with the advice of not just me but several others as well. read more

Called 2-10 HW to see if we could have another company come look at the system, that was denied unless we wanted to pay out of pocket. They lie and say they have not received parts sent by American Home Shield. I tracked a delivery that was sent on June 22 and received by K&J on June 27. After many hours and countless phone calls, they called me on July 11, said they have the parts and were ready to schedule service but would need me to pay up front for the AC repairs... After refusing to pay 100% up front and offering to pay some when they arrive and the balance when complete, I was put on hold and called from another line and was old that Thomas was busy and would not be able to speak with me! I remained on hold on my other phone for 1 hour and 25 minutes. Long story short, Thomas told me they wouldn't come out until I paid the entire amount of my part of the charges from AHS ($1,300 and some change), Told me that he was sending my work order back to AHS to start all over after waiting with no AC for 9 weeks. This company was the WORST. I have a warranty with AHS, and this company was assigned over the weekend for an emergency HVAC call. They were supposed to get here at 8am on Saturday. No show. I kept calling, and by 1pm, I was able to get through and they said they'd already been to my house!!! "Uh....no...I'm pretty sure I'd know if someone's been in my own home to fix my A/C when it's 95 degrees in here!" They reschedule and come out, look at the unit and recommend replacing the entire unit. Then, suddenly the owner jumps in, lies to the warranty company and says the technician meant repair, not replace. We ask what the deal is about this, and not only does he lie to us (as confirmed by his technician whose phone number we had), but he also yelled at me and got incredibly rude and disrespectful like he was talking to a piece of garbage. After that, they went missing from us AND from AHS. They kept us waiting in a heat wave for almost THREE WEEKS before AHS allowed us to fire them and hire another company. STAY FAR AWAY FROM K&J. Unprofessional, they don't follow up, they don't care about quality, and they don't care about their customers. read more

My heat went out last night when it was 26 degrees outside, there was also a mysterious burning smell within the home. I call 2-10 HBW to make a service request in regards to the incident. I was told that it was not considered an emergency call, after I sprinkled my knowledge on them they deemed it an emergency and stated that I would be contacted by a compact by 12 the next day. So we bundled up, got creative and waited. I received an email about my request update at 9:20am, spoke with the wonderful scheduling assistant Kesha by 9:30am (who was very empathetic and assured me that I would be seen no later than 1pm) and by 11:55am there was a technician named Riley sitting outside of my door. By 12:30pm the issue was resolved, the technician was paid and I was off to get Starbucks. The technician was not only prompt but very knowledgable and informative. The technician explained to me what part had to be replaced and why. Most importantly he informed me of why the burning smell was present and how the equipment malfunctioned to cause the smell. After the technician left I went to take my barking dog back outside (my heating unit is stored in the shed) and noticed that the Riley locked my shed and my back door back up and secured the home as if it was his own. I am a sucker for customer service and I received every ounce of it when dealing with K&J! Reading the prior reviews first would have probably scared me away but to actually have my own experience with the company is an example of why I can never judge a book by it's cover. Kudos to Kesha and Riley, who definitely earned K& J Mechanical a customer for life on this property and future properties that I acquire. read more

This company was the one the warranty company sent out. They were ok and mostly on time. After multiple problems and visits on the HVAC they were able to get the job done. read more
