Doug was very professional, showed up on time and moved throughout the home carefully and thoughtfully. Doug was thorough, and tracked and recorded issues on his mobile device. He was happy to answer questions as we tagged along, but also gave a detailed verbal report to us before we left the property. Doug emailed us the 25 page report the same night as the inspection. Again, very pleased we found this man on yelp and would highly recommend! Cool guy doing what he enjoys! Of special note... $50 discount to public servants. As a teacher I cashed in on that.

I know that choosing the right home inspector can be difficult. Unlike most professionals, you probably will not get to meet me until after you hire me. Furthermore, different inspectors have varying qualifications, equipment, experience, reporting methods, and yes, different pricing. One thing for sure is that a home inspection requires work, a lot of work. Ultimately a thorough inspection depends heavily on the individual inspector's own effort. If you honor me D.Obenauf Home Inspections by permitting me to inspect your new home, I guarantee that I will give you my very best effort. This I promise you.

Absolute dumpster fire of a Company. It was a complete waste of 500, and to top it all off I had flown in from out of state for the inspection. The only reason that an inspector would be this purposeful in missing so many critical and dangerous things is that they are working for the seller. When I reached out for an explanation or a refund I was ignored By Scott and his boss. Hammer Home inspections were WAY more thorough (I had to hire them after this willfully BOTCHED inspection) and that's how I learned about the issues. Scott was so slow with the report I missed the ability to back out of the home so my second inspection was just so my family didn't die after we flew in. ABI services takes advantage of first time homebuyers who don't know any better. I am a first time homebuyer, a woman, a POC and a Veteran and I was absolutely abused by this company. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY

We followed him around as he went through his check list and began giving us tips on how to care for, or maintain certain things. Anytime we had a question about something he would always answer "If this were my home..." and that was very comforting because it helped us feel that he cared about the house that we were buying. I did come in with questions prepared, and Dave was more than willing to walk me through and concerns or thoughts he had about certain parts of the house. His report that he wrote up helped us get some things paid for by the seller before the sale so that was a great plus! I would highly recommend ABI to anybody buying a house in West Michigan.

He came out an "fixed" it, but now it barely drags open and shut. The other project we had him do was replace the basement door that leads outside. We are in the woods and mice and chipmunks are always looking for a way into the house. I noticed I could see the daylight along the side of the door from inside the basement. Todd came out and put wood or something around the door. A few days later, I walked under our deck where this new door was installed to find all of the old stuff he removed was left behind. We are in our 70's. Did he expect us to haul it away? I'm glad that was all we used him for. He is a nice guy, but he overstates his skills.

In my younger years, I used to do these sorts of things for myself; now we have to rely on others, and in judging their performance I consider whether they've done the job as well as I probably would have. Maybe there are some issues with expectations here. I look upon a "handyman" as a resourceful, experienced, hired hand ... not as a licensed contractor ... a "Mr. Fixit", not an engineer or builder. We generally use a "handyman" to fix things are broken, replace things that are worn out, or correct mistakes made by prior occupants of our 125+ year old home. If we're ever thinking about doing a major remodel or addition, we'll be looking for a reputable licensed contractor, not a handyman ... someone we can hold to top quality building and code-compliant standards. About refuse removal ... if you're working with a handyman, that'll be your responsibility. Light accumulations can probably be combined with your weekly trash pickup for free. Anything more that that will probably cost $200 to $400 to have someone haul away (GotJunk, Bagster, dumpster, etc.). Settle this issue with your hired hand before the work begins and it won't come as an unhappy surprise later.
