We are relatively speaking, "new" to The Big Island; connecting with Taylor Built Construction was…read morestraight forward from the very beginning. Coming from a decorated military background and as a fellow business owner in the construction industry for a couple of decades we knew what we were looking for in terms of excavation work and more or less the requirements to complete the project. Treavor's initial meeting over the phone by way of good referral was clear as he was able to meet our services requested. He walked the land which we brush cut a good section of as he said he would at the time we arranged and gave me a fair quote. On the morning of "kick-off" Treavor pulled up and backed his tractor-trailer into a standard, but narrow driveway with his excavator and hammer loaded with ease. Our realtor / friend showed up to take photos for about an hour and she was amazed at how well he handled his excavator and effortlessly carved out what we planned. I was busy flying the drone every so often throughout the day in between admin stuff, resetting security cameras and running errands nearby; and each time it appeared that Treavor was further along than what we envisioned. Great work. I'm sure that some parcels are more difficult than others, but it seams clear that Taylor Built Construction would have the capacity to work around, work within, and work safely with whatever obstacles the land is yielding. Good work, or excellent work, in a reasonable time frame, and at a fair price. Taylor Built Construction provided us with quality work that is worth every penny spent and completed above the services we requested. Mahalo. Note: it took a while for us to find Taylor Built Construction, but was worth it.

Our condo association hired these guys to repair spauling damage to our complex. Our unit had…read morespauling issues in the outside concrete walls. One area is framed (not concrete) and a previous stucco patch was loose so the workers poured concrete in the stud wall encapsulating the plumbing. That was my first clue these workers (young kids) don't really know what they are doing. He also did a very poor job making our stucco pattern with his patches. I have had several people comment on how it looks like something their child could have done better with. They also sit around smoking for the first 30 minutes of each day before they get started working. There was spauling damage in each room but the guys missed one area. I discovered it the day before the guys were finishing up and asked them to repair it. Not sure how they could have missed it since the weeds were growing up between the concrete and stucco. The owner came out to look at it and basically accused me of lying about the electrical outlet in the area of the damage not working. He begrudgingly sent his worker back to tear open the wall, which revealed rusted conduit that needed to be repaired. Once we had the electrical repaired we asked them to come complete the wall repair. They said they just started a new job so they couldn't come for 2 more months, which was surprising since it was a small job that could have been done in less than a day and they do have multiple crews. After waiting the 2 months with a hole in our livingroom wall they said they had just started another job and couldn't do it for awhile longer. Then one day they said they were available right now, so I literally dropped what I was doing and ran home. The worker came and opened the hole even more and got it ready to pour concrete the next day. I asked him if they would be parging the area around the hole where it had crumbled so the wall would be an even surface again? He said he would be back the next day to pour the hole. The next day they didn't show up. Instead the owner informed our property management company that they would not be completing our job since I was wanting them to do more work (fill in the wall so it was even). This left us with a huge hole in our living room wall for several more months until I found Hawaii Masonry to finish the job. I'm sure Tamarock had already been paid for the whole job by then so he obviously didn't care to finish the job. The other day another contractor, who is familiar with the history of our complex, pointed out where Tamarock had previously made spauling repairs and there is now new damage only after about 6 years. He flat out told us the owner is a crook. Currently Tamarock is working on another building in our complex and Hawaii Masonry is tiling our lanai. The Hawaii Masonry's worker tells me the Tamarock worker was bad mouthing us to him and that he told him he hasn't had a problem with us. Now Tamarock is working above our unit and the owner approached me like nothing had happened. I informed him of all our grievances with him and his workers but he choose to make excuses and blame our property manager and us . No apology. In my experience their customer service, craftsmanship and integrity are highly lacking. Save yourself a lot of grief hire another company.

The work which hadn't been discussed in advance, included removing the roof on my existing structure which he damaged in the process, leaving exposed holes and screws sticking straight down into the house with no contact with the wood. He added a roof to the new lanai he built- quoted me new materials, but gave me mostly used which he also did not match the color of what was existing, leaving me with a patchwork look on the roof, With the used material on the new construction, he left holes visible and did not finish putting the ridge cap on. He lost my top of the line paint and later returned a lesser quality and wrong color, 5 gallon bucket that was so old the brand was discontinued. He used a spray painter and made a mess and painted things I didn't ask to be painted. He stated in my contract that he would paint lumber before installation, but only partially spray painted after installed. The deck and stairs were also built without a railing. He had originally quoted and included in my signed contract, stainless steel cable railings which he described as top of the line, but later complained they were too expensive. I agreed he could leave them out, but was disappointed that i would have no railings and would never have agreed to the high price of a small deck and walkway, had some of the items he upsold me not been included. When i voiced My concerns about how things had turned out and also not been finished, after he already cashed my checks, he completely gas-lighted me and never returned to finish.
