Joey and Juliana are the best. They have an incredible work ethic, show up on time, work really hard and are super responsive and reliable. I have had them do numerous projects and they do their work with pride. They price everything very fairly and will do everything to make the customer happy. Customers beware! These two came out, gave us a price 34% more than we've paid any landscaper. They said they'd take care of everything even if it means staying longer and bring as many people as needed. What a sales pitch! We discovered that actions speak louder than words. The one and only time they stayed an hour and a half. Our last landscaper went into just installations and had no referral for maintenance. The first time they were here, they arrived in a car with just a lawn mower in back. No way to take green waste. We told them beforehand that pulling weeds was our main thing. They pulled a few and didn't do the rest with no reason. They said they'd finish the job the next time, in 2 weeks, and other things they just didn't do for almost doubled the price. I sent a text them the morning they were to arrive at noon (2 weeks later) and was told they'd be here about noon. At 11:00 am they text me back that they didn't want to come back one hour before they were to be here! They said they couldn't handle the job (we live on a 1/2 acre, mostly house). They demanded we pay for the entire month in advance so did we paid for the month ( even though we never had to do that before) and we thought we'd see how they would do the second time here. What a TOTAL disappointment for double the price!! If you want to pay more than any other landscaper on the Island and get "mow, blow and go" and you'll have to take care of all green waste, weeds, trimming, etc. these are your folks!! Joey and Jouliana are amazing! I needed to transform an area of our backyard to make it safer and more inviting for my disabled Veteran husband. They had no qualms about deconstructing the "arbor" I had made over 10 years ago and the pallet "lounge" underneath. The unsteady deep gravel posed a mobility issue for his stability and orientation. They transferred all of the area's gravel, depositing it to a more suitable place on the property that needed it, then leveled the area for the pavers--after installing proper landscape fabric. They were so sensitive to my sweetheart's needs and were swift and enthusiastic to accommodate. Their overall communication was professional and ready. They were swift with their progress and reliable with their timeliness. Their approach was efficient while being empathetic. I noticed they were even warm with our neighbors and courteous of their presence and footprint. I felt confident and at ease with them on the property and was grateful for their knowledge and respect for the aina and the regard for our ohana. I LOVE MY NEW SPRINKLER SYSTEM!!! After having my 13 year old sprinklers totally overhauled and replaced with new heads and everything, I actually stand outside watching my grass turning green! Joey, the owner and proprietor of Aina Terra Permascapes, came out to do an initial survey and returned with an estimate within 2 hours on that same day (no joke!). He also added extra heads to an area not previously covered by my old system. Super friendly and hard working, Joey did an amazing job...adding that extra touch such as filling the holes with black cinder (to help stabilize new heads as well as nourish the grass). But beyond his stellar work, Joey excels in communication....from arrival texts to quick follow up questions. I use to work in a service industry and have never, ever seen this level of response! First off, Joey and his crew did not work on my property. I had put the stop on dealing with this company before things got worse. So this review is not about the quality of their work because I would never know. It is all about their questionable business conducts through out my communication with them since May. I found this company from my web search. Because of the limited reviews available but decent, I gave them a call. On the phone, Joey sounded nice and eager to work on my project but he kept pushing me to give 50% of the total estimate to him through PayPal, Vemo or direct bank transfer before we even talked about what I wanted. That was a red flag so I stalled the conversation and never agreed to anything. 2 months later out of the blue he contacted me saying he has an opening in July to work on my project. At first, I thought he was the landscaper my neighbor referred to me so I continued the conversation and even met with him and his partner, Juliana, when I was in Kona in July. After the meeting, I realized who he was but still decided to give them a chance. They sent over the contract and demanded now 100% paid upfront. They would start working when they see the money in their bank. What business does that? So another red flag. I told them I would not go for it. Juliana tried to negotiate 60% upfront and 40% upcompletion but I did not budge. To me, they have all along telling me 50% to start and they we're not doing what they said. They caved and agreed to 50% so I moved forward again. They told me they would start the project on 12th when we met. Then changed to 13th after they changed back to 50% upfront. The morning of the 13th, got another text from Juliana telling me something happened that Joey and the crew could not come to work but she would come to pick up the 50% upfront check. It is just not felt right. Hence, I replied with my text attached here and her follow up unprofessional texts. This is from a person who claimed she had extensive HR background and know how to deal with clients. Read them for yourself. If you can accept that kind of behavior, hire them and take a risk on their work. If not, don't hire them and protect yourself. They keep complaining about the time they put in to visit the property and drafting up proposals for me. I actually want to laugh because these are normal cost of doing business. If you are not willing to do that, why bother to have a business?! read more
