I would not recommend Juvo's Breaking Barriers camp. It's more like 'breaking in new possible employees at the expense of children with special needs' camp. Here are the highlights (or lowlights) as I saw them: * VERY strict drop off and pick up times, meaning you could not drop the kids of until 9 am on the dot. The behaviorists who ran the camp didn't care that we got there early and made the girls wait until 9 before dismissing me and even interacting with them. Clearly, not focused for people with disabilities who may have issues with time and waiting. One of my kids thought they were mad at her. *For a camp that is run by behaviorists who are supposed to monitor and help kids to deal with behaviors, I got zero feedback about what happened during camp on a daily basis. How can we work on behaviors (or praise good things) if we have no clue what is really happening? Even their website says they are communication focused with parents. * Age range: They claim the ages for camp were 5-18 years old. My kids were the only kids there above the age of 7 or 8. From what I cold tell, they did not gear any activities towards them (tweens) vs the younger ones. There were only 6-8 campers there, including the girls. The crafts were geared to the little ones as well. (I mean how much coloring, matchbox car racing and bracelet making can one do, regardless of age?) With a $50 activity fee per child, I would expect to have age-appropriate crafts and activities. * They were not prepared for inclement weather. * This is clearly a 'training' camp for behaviorists-in-training, which I was not told. Half the behaviorists were 'shadowing' others. Although I do not mind shadowing per se, I should have been advised in advance. Plus, I had no clue who was in charge to address any issues. * Their email communications were confusing, inaccurate (had to send multiple corrected directions) and still did not tell me who to talk to. After two days of a three day requirement, we decided not to return. As a matter of fact, one of my daughters refused to return, saying she was 'very, very sick' even though she was clearly not. And the camp staff never even called to check if we were coming when we didn't show up. That says a lot, doesn't it? read more

I am very disappointed in this company. My daughter works with a BCBA named Monica Piedrahita and has a 1:1 aide. My daughters things have been left out in the rain on purpose in response to behavior challenges, the BCBA is unsupportive, dismissive, and refuses to allow the 1:1 aide to accompany my daughter on school field trips so my daughter has missed all but one field trip since the school year began. The BCBA commits to preparing my daughter for field trips in IEP meetings then fails to follow through then when asked about it she acts like she doesn't remember. Today my daughter had to walk to the car with one shoe because they lost her other shoe ( both BCBA and aide were present at school today). I have had to rebuy shoes several times because the 1:1 leaves it all over the school. My daughter has had multiple aide's since the school year began some of which have called my daughter names like brat. Monica Piedrahita in IEP meetings does not advocate for my daughter she actually tries to do very little to support my daughter. There are many more issues. I have been working along side with Juvo for about 7 months now as they help provide behavioral support for a student in my classroom. I am beyond impressed with the amount of time dedicated and services we have received. I have worked with several different companies throughout the years and there are a few things that really stand out about Juvo. To begin, Juvo was thorough with the initial evaluation visiting my classroom to observe the student, team, and environment. Then we set up a time for an interview to give facts on the data I had collected from the beginning of the school year. I was impressed because I was involved with the whole process while the report was being written up by Juvo. They wanted to make sure all the facts were correct and that I agreed with the function behind the student's challenging behavior. Another part that impressed me with Juvo was the amount of training my staff and I received. It was only the amount of training but also the quality. I did not feel as if my time was being wasted. We took the time to role play situations in order to prepare all my staff. This was very beneficial since my staff had little to no training prior to this. On top of all the great training we had daily support in the classroom by "behavior technicians" whom were well trained and good at their jobs. We were able to do some rotations of working with different students and if a crisis occurred, the technician was quick to provide support if needed. If for some reason the technician was unable to be present in my classroom for the day, Juvo was extremely fast on ensuring that we had adequate support by an alternative technician. I cannot thank this company enough for helping my class out when we needed it the most. Dr. Keith is amazing and more supportive than anyone I have worked with in other companies. He got right in there and demonstrated what to do. He was quick to guide us as needed and would compliment us on our successes. Dr. Keith has made a big impact on the way I approach a crisis situation as well as helping me structure my classroom to maintain control and continue to have a positive learning environment for my students. I highly recommend Juvo for in home and school services because they make sure their staff is trained and are fast to respond if I had any questions or concerns. The teamwork is an important factor to the success of any program and Juvo is all about the team! read more

My daughter, Alexis is currently attending the breaking barriers summer camp, offered by ed supports. This is her first camp experience (11 yo), and she loves it! The staff is very friendly, and Mel, the director made me feel comfortable leaving my daughter there. I would recommend this day camp program to anyone! read more

My son attended both camps offered thus far. The summer camp was held at a spacious location in Orinda and was very nice. They had plenty of summer appropriate activities for the kids to do with lots of aids on hand. The kids brought in their scooters to ride on certain days in the large parking lot which was blocked off for safety reasons. The first day or so you're were given a note about your child's day which was nice to know because at pick up time it could be a little busy. If I recall that was just a few times. This was their first camp session so you expect some kinks. The winter session was held at a different location which was nice too. The playground area was big and fenced in. You had options what weeks you'd like to attend for summer camp which was nice, up to 3 weeks I believe so you had some flexibility. Winter covered two weeks and off on the holidays. When you dropped your child off you didn't have to get out of your car which was nice for those on their way to work with little time, very quick drop off. An aid would walk your child to the room and the camp coordinator would get you signed in. They also asked if there was anything they needed to know about your childs morning or night in case it may have been something that would effect their day at camp which is very helpful for them. They also have a private camp facebook page for parents to interact and to view pictures from camp which was great. I think to sum up our camp experience I'd have to say it not about the location because that could change but more about the staff. Everybody was always so pleasant, Whether it was 100 degrees or freezing cold outside. They wanted each child to have a good time and participate. The first day of summer camp I didn't have gas to get my child there and that morning I was hand delivered a gas card from the company! I couldn't believe it, I was so thankful, greatful and appreciative! That shows they really care and we plan to attend many, many more camp sessions. read more
