Cold, raw meat with obliterated lobster
    Joyce R.

I'm busy. I'm lazy, sometimes. Sometimes I just want to give up. That's where I've wound up with the JTR Group, i. e. Tavalo, 624, PRHYME, Juniper, and whatever else comes down the pike. At Tavalo we've been treated rudely & for whatever t? Mediocre food. Juniper, I enjoyed the food/service in the beginning, which quickly went downhill (sent scallops back 3 [three] times last visit @ Juniper. Friends have laughed and said, "Well, yea, you didn't order ceviche".) PRHYME, too many mediocre to poor reviews from friends. This review is for our Valentine's Day Dinner experience at 624, an absolutely beautiful venue. BUT, I must prelude. Short version: We made brunch reservations there for our daughter's b'day last year. We three arrived on the dot & after hem-hawing around, the hostess said, "We don't have many tables for 2 or three." REALLY? Hang onto your chairs, folks! She then proceeded to sit the three of us -- alone! -- in an empty back room! I stood up & said, "No. I'm not sitting here." We were then seated at a table for 5-6 near the bar station. Unmemorable food. So when we made Valentine reservations, daughter said, "How could you?" I said, "Well, it's his last chance." I could go on & on about the hassle of making the reservation. If you read my reviews, you've perceived hubby doesn't drink. So, I called, per instructions in the newspaper, to make res for one w/ one w/o alcohol. Per their published prices and instructions. No. They did NOT reduce the non-alcohol price nearly as stated, AND -- GET THIS -- they wouldn't take a non alcohol reservation unless it was prepaid. I guess sober people simply cannot be trusted! You know, I cannot make this stuff up. I still have it all on my computer should anyone choose to dispute. They emailed me a cc form, requiring signature, in order to make a res'. Creatively, I modified the form, made up an electronic signature & emailed it back. WHEW! Diplomatically, you could sit anywhere. And this wasn't their fault although I came close to asking for another table: a six top by us filled in w/ someone whose cologne was so STRONG (male) I spent 1/2 the night fanning the order away. The wine was absolutely mediocre (& the wine guy spent mega more time dispensing wine at the six top. Well, we had one non-drinker. That is so discriminatory.) Food: perhaps I'll include a pix of what sounded like an intriguing menu. Bluuu. Hard to write that noise, & rarely feel that strongly. AND, too many nuts! Peanuts, hazelnuts. . . Course 1: peanut crusted seared tuna w/ lime & soy vinaigrette, red sorrel, charred pineapple, black sesame. I liked the 2 pineapple pieces & 1 (ONE) sorrel leaf. Course 2: hazelnut veloute/ braised pork belly, pickled strawberry, arugula. The veloute was so thick, so nutty. Too rich, not enough offset. Okay, course 3, main course: herb crusted tenderloin & poached lobster tail, cauliflower purée, roasted heirloom cauliflower, black truffle Demi-glacé, SHAVED asparagus. Right. I ordered my filet medium-well, as always. A little pink please, no blood. Thank you. We got seconds on the Pinot. Was that because they knew the mass produced entree was crap? See photos, please. And I did not take enough. I could hardly cut the raw meat. Of course it was cold. Hubby said he didn't see how I ate *any* of it. The cauliflower was COLD The poor lobster was MUSH Shaved asparagus? I think not. Very inelegantly chopped. GOOGLE "shaved asparagus" plz. Fourth course, chocolate mousse blah blah blah. Really, by then it wouldn't have mattered would it? Hubby said, "We could do so much better," he sighed. "And for $200."

I've been wanting to try this place FOREVER. First off, this place is beautiful - the building and the food. Huge windows that let in tons of light. Clean, open, and bright with that Tulsa art-deco touch. The food. Ahhhh. Salmon, prime rib, an omelet bar, waffles, biscuits and gravy, Parmesan potatoes, CANDIED BACON. And the dessert display?! Everything was delicious and I wanted more. I wished I could sit there all day and eat. Only complaint was that the biscuits were slightly dry. Our server was also really cool. Can't wait to come back!!

    Build your own omlet bar!

Brunch is my favorite. Absolute favorite. 624 Kitchen may have made me love brunch even more! Only open on Sundays, the buffet is booming with all of the sweet and savory goodness. Located in a downtown building, there are high ceilings with beautiful art deco and beautiful natural lighting. There are tables for two and enough for a few large parties. I didn't make reservations but was able to get a table for 2 walking in at 1pm. There are servers that come around to take your drink order. Drinks are reasonably priced and when I'm not pregnant, I'm going to dominate the mimosas! The buffet was absolutely perfect and high quality. Standouts were the build your own omelet bar, prime rib, fresh fruits, parfaits, breakfast potatoes, fresh/ crispy bacon, fancy cheeses and... the desserts. I mean... there was a whole table dedicated to the sweets of plenty. My favorite? The pumpkin cheesecake bread pudding. When I ate here I was 7 months pregnant and still didn't need to eat anything else the rest of the day! This meal will be memorable for anyone. Make your Sunday brunch plans now!

Came out from San Francisco to visit Mom for Mother's Day and we went to brunch here (they only open as a restaurant for brunch on Sundays). I'm not sure what I expected...Californians can be pretty snooty about food when we travel. It was wonderful. The space is the lobby of a high rise office building probably built in the 30s with original lighting fixtures and details. Mom, who's a bit hard of hearing, remarked that even though the restaurant was crowded, it wasn't noisy and it made conversation easy (it's a tablecloth place). The buffet stations were: chilled foods, salads, hot dishes, an omelet station, and desserts. Dishes included crab claws, shrimp, lobster salad (superb), plenty of fresh fruit, traditional breakfast items, carved beef, a pork tenderloin with a PERFECT herbed crust, and several other choices including French toast and such. Dessert had cookies, little fruit tarts, etc. as well as something I'd never tried: Peanut Butter & Jelly Bread Pudding. I could not put down my fork. Service was welcoming, hospitable, and professional. They had small tables as well as tables of at least 12. We sat by a window with a view of a gorgeous neo-gothic church that was right across the street. Take your Mom, take out-of-towners, take someone you love and leave all thoughts of disappointment at the door.

Biscuits and gravy. Bacon. Fresh fruit with mint. Caesar salad. And amazing chocolate mousse.

I went here for brunch with 6 of my friends last Sunday. The food was amazing! And since it's an all you can eat, definitely worth the $23. The bacon was out of this world...a mix of candied and regular. The parmesan potatoes are a must. And on the dessert table was a chocolate mouse with crumbled chocolate chip cookies, whipped cream and fresh raspberries. And of course, they have mimosa carafes. Thumbs up.

We were originally between two vendors and before even tasting their food, we knew that we wanted Ludgers purely by their communication and knowledge over the wedding industry in general. Michelle Ramzel was the event specialist assigned to us and honestly I couldn't have picked a more perfect person to work with. Her knowledge on rentals and her attention to detail was a god-send during this stressful time of planning a wedding. Like I'm pretty sure she has angel wings. 10/10 would recommend working with her in the future! Now on to the food. Ludgers hosts free tasting events through out the year that you could attend in order to try a good portion of their menu and if you didn't get to try something in one of those tastings that your interested in, they also offer to host a private tasting in order to try some of the other items. These tastings made it super easy for my husband and I to narrow down our menu and select our favorite items. When we decided to attend a private tasting we noticed that the steaks were cooked more medium/medium-well and we were looking for a more medium-rare cook to our steaks. Michelle took note of what we wanted and we were pleasantly surprised that our steaks were cooked perfectly on the wedding day! Additionally, the mashed potatoes are to die for and the chorizo mini sliders are so freakin good! Day of the wedding. Michelle showed up at the time that the venue opened to start setting up table cloths as early as possible. This allowed my mom to set up center pieces pretty early so that she could take her time getting ready. I'm telling you, Michelle is an angel. I was a little busy so I didn't get to talk to very many servers or cooks but my goodness, they were on top of everything! The bar tenders were so sweet to all of my friends and family and during dinner, no one even had the opportunity to think about food or drink because they were constantly being taken care of. This team was so professional and kind. My husband and I were unable to attend our cocktail hour because of photos but the staff went out of their way to ensure that we had a small plate of our passed appetizers to try with our meal once we got to our table! Then at the end of the night the staff packed up two meals for my husband and I to have once we got back to our hotel! Plates, napkins, water, wine, silverware... all included in our goody bag. Its quite possible for me to go on forever about how amazing this company is but I'll stop now. My hope is that my review helps a future bride make the decision on who they should use for catering. You definitely can't go wrong with choosing Ludgers.

T-Town Tacos is their employment readiness program that helps youth by equipping them with the employment skills they need to create a better future for themselves. Not only do they have an amazing mission, but the tacos themselves are delicious and affordable. They have four options for breakfast tacos ($3 each): veggie, chorizo, bacon or sausage, egg & cheese. They all have flour tortillas and amazing flavor. My favorite is the sausage, egg & cheese taco, they use a spiced sausage that I love. For lunch tacos ($4 each), their options are: pork carnitas, chicken fajita, bean & Veggie, or chipotle beef. My favorite is the pork carnitas, the roasted poblano they use is delicious. They also have three salsas available, all made from scratch: traditional roja (tomato+peppers), creamy verde (tomatillo+avocado) and cream salsa (jalapeño+cilantro+ citrus). You can't go wrong with either but I like the verde. If you ever need breakfast or lunch for an event or meeting during the week, their tacos are the way to go. You have to order at least 20 tacos and order with at least 24 hours in advance. Their online catering request makes things super easy. All you need to do is fill out the form on their site with the tacos you need. They conveniently offer delivery to the metro area. Your order is then confirmed by email or phone call after submitting the form. You can also find their trikes serving tacos every Tuesday from 7-9am on 1st and Boston downtown.
