My husband and I went to Just Like Mama's today, 03/14/26. Overall not a bad experience and we're going to try it again and compare our visits. We ordered the fried pork chop dinner with two sides, mac & cheese, and green beans. The other entrée was a baked turkey wing, greens, sweet potatoes, dressing with gravy and cornbread. The pork chop was dry, overcooked. The green beans tasted like they came from a can and had seasoning salt in them, the mac & cheese was okay. The turkey and dressing were good, if I am being picky I would say the dressing needed a little more sage. The greens and the sweet potatoes were okay. If your menu is soul food and it is "just like momma's", this fell a little short for me. The server was okay, however she could not answer any questions on the breakfast menu ( there were no descriptions on the menu), I had to ask for a knife for the pork chop ( I got up), then I had to go back and ask for a knife for the turkey wing. Soul food should make your mouth water and if it is good, you want to go back for more. The restaurant has a nice vibe and the decorations are cute. I have been to this restaurant a couple of times and have really enjoyed my meal. The first time we ordered our food to go and when we got home we were impressed with our dinner. It was delicious! The second time we went was for breakfast. I wish I would have taken a picture of the pancakes before we devoured them. They were buttery and had a tiny crunch on the edges. It reminded me of breakfast in the country. We ate at the restaurant and was well please with our service. I like seeing that the owner is creating a space where teens can serve. Walked in with a party of 5. Was told to pick any table handed a stack of menus and to seat ourselves. All the tables are for 4 so had to take a chair from another table. First bad mark. Sat down and dead silent, no light music. Squid games was on on the TV. I don't let my kids watch that crap. 2nd bad mark. It was children running the counter, brought us menus and got our drink order. We ordered our food and the chicken return to tell us that they oy had enough for 2 orders of ribs not 4. Another bad mark. The vibe was boring and not worth the wait or desire to try the food. Paid for our drink and went next door to Mexican which was way more enjoyable. How much is child labor? What's the youngest age a child could work? I believe this would not fly. Best of luck. You may want to rethink having children working for your establishment. read more

We went here for some mac and cheese it was ok. I would have liked more seasoning on them. The turkey wing was seasoned very well. The catfish was delicious and the baked chicken was nicely flavored. We had a very nice waitress who was ten years old name Jordyn she was such a pleasure to talk too. She recommended the mango kool aid and it was good not too sweet. She informed us it was a family own business that her mom owned. I met her mom as well as her dad and sister. There was plenty of available tables. The restaurant was clean and service was good. This place is just like the name says, Just Like Mama's. That is both good and bad. It's good in that it is down home soul food. The problem is that there is nothing particularly special...nothing different than what I can get for free at mama's house or any church social. When I go to a restaurant, I want food that is unique to that restaurant... something that I can't get from anywhere else. This, unfortunately, is not it. The restaurant is located in a shopping center. Masks are required upon entry into the restaurant. Even though the restaurant was clean, I just couldn't get past the sticky floors. With every step, it seemed like my feet would slip out of my shoes. The workers there were very friendly. There was also had a cute little girl helping out. I assume that she is the daughter or granddaughter of the owner. I love the legacy angle. We decided to get our food to go. I ordered fried whiting, french fries, fried okra, mac and cheese, and cornbread. My husband ordered fried ribs, collard greens, mac and cheese, and potato salad. They didn't have the potato salad, so he got a double order of greens. We sat in a lobby type area as we waited for our food. There was a wall that people wrote messages on, and another wall dedicated to the owner's mother or grandmother. That was the touch that made things feel like home. While we were waiting, we decided to add desserts to our order. We decided to get a slice of Red Velvet Cake and a slice of Sweet Potato Pie. I'm not sure how long we waited for our food. We were told that it would be a 25 minute wait. It may have been that long, or a little longer. Quality of the food: As I stated earlier, there was nothing special about it. My fish was not fresh and was underwhelming. The french fries were just french fries. Something I can make from home. The same with the fried okra. The mac and cheese was pretty good. I tasted my husband's fried rib, and the piece he gave me was salty. The red velvet cake was ok, but the sweet potato pie was not good at all. It had wayy too much cinnamon. The best thing about the entire meal was the cornbread. The cornbread was moist and delicious. Overall, it was just ok, and I probably won't be back. I am outraged at the service of this establishment!!!! The owner is very rude to her very obvious underaged workers and the customer. The owner can not take any type of criticism AND THE FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS !!! I saw a little girl in the front who kept asking me inappropriate questions and I felt VERY uncomfortable... Someone come get their child!!! I can't believe that this place is still opened with its terrible management. Eh... Went here a few months ago on a Sunday and the food was SLAMMING. I made a point to go back. Went in on like a Thursday or Friday and it was different. To me, the food was ok but my food date said she liked her food more this time . It's definitely family style but not necessarily a vibe. The music blasting, which would've been ok if it caused it to be a vibe, it didn't, it was a bit distracting and there was a loud child dancing with no shoes on. Like the friend's house who cooks ok but you're not going unless you're really hungry because you leave with a headache... that was the vibe yesterday. I decided to try Just Like Mommas because I wanted Soul Food. I had smothered pork chops, yams and mac and cheese. The food was 'ok'. I wasn't thrilled with the flavor or presentation. The food was heated in the microwave and it was extremely hot when it was brought to me. The restaurant is small and quaint and there is a steam table. I opted to order from the menu. There were about 4 people in the restaurant on this day but it took a while for me to get my food. Overall I would give the restaurant two stars. I would return for the fried chicken and French fries. These two items were really good. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed. The food just wasn't "just like (my) mama's". All of the food tastes like it has the same seasoning in everything, which really did not taste good to me. I think it may be the "Slap Yo Momma" seasoning sold in the restaurant as well. Maybe it's fine for some foods, but not everything you cook. The vegetables and other sides were not good to me. If they were to throw that seasoning and allow the sides to taste different I think it could be a really good place to eat. The atmosphere and music was nice. Everything was hot, flavorful, well seasoned, and had great portion sizes. The catfish and tilapia were fresh and cooked perfectly and the chicken wings were cooked just as I wanted. Our sides were mashed potatoes, Lima beans, yams, black eyed peas, and macaroni. They all were just as you'd expect when you make it over to Big Mama's house for Sunday dinner. My hat really goes off to the cooks who truest know what soul food is supposed to taste and feel like, better yet how it's supposed to make you feel like. This place isn't like my momma's I ordered the pig feet dinner and all I can say good is that the portions are a good size. Other than that this a place to avoid. First off their pricing is outrageous 15$ for 3 pig feet a scoop of bland mac n cheese and a very small amount of potato salad. The pig feet were under cooked and over peppered. Dry sticky with so much pepper they were nearly inedible. There was no juices left they had been cooked so long the mac n cheese was tasteless and dry. It tasted like the stuff in the blue box not homemade the potatoe salad was slightly better except that it had too much mayo and someone added sugar so it was a creamy sweet mess. I was so excited to try this food and had envisioned trying their chitlins and oxtail dinner but priced at 27 and 30dollars I can't risk wasting more money. I really wanted collard greens but when I was told they didn't out ham hock or smoked turkey (any meat actually) in them I became skeptical. I also wanted to try the stuffed salmon which looks great on the reviews but they were out. I ended up opting for smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese and fried okra. With each plate you get three sides which is generous and the plate has a lot of food. The smothered pork chop was pretty good but most of it was bone not meat. Mashed potatoes were delicious especially with the gravy. I wasn't a fan of the Mac n cheese although it wasn't terrible, it just wasn't cravable or anything to rave about. What I can say is the okra tasted ok but 3/4 of it had the consistency of a stem unlike typical fried okra. Not sure what that's about but it was unpleasant for sure. read more
