Good ice cream but arrived at 4:10pm and am still waiting at 4:26pm. Hours listed on the front of the store are Monday Tuesday 4pm to 8:30pm closed Wednesday and open Thursday to Sunday again. Saturday and Sunday seem to be 12pm

Was looking for a cute place to take me kids for ice cream! We loved the wide variety of flavors and options to choose from. Cones, shakes, rolled ice cream and more! The ice cream was great. Loved the game corner, festive holiday decorations and even a photo op wall. The only down side is getting our order was very slow, especially since we were the only ones in there. I think they also need to work on their food handling. They also had a small selection of merch. Stickers, key chains, mugs, plushies.

The people that own Dragonfly Tea Zone locations are having their first try at an ice cream parlor. Featuring rolled ice cream, but scoops, shakes and sundaes are available as well as bubble teas. I ordered the Cherry Garcia shake with cherry ice cream and brownie bits, and chocolate syrup. The presentation was as bold as the interior with vibrant colors and neon. A fun option for a sweet treat.

Some many toppings!

The ice cream was to die for! I got a fruity pebbles milkshake(my favorite cereal put into a milkshake what!!!), my mother got the strawberry rolled ice cream which is always fun and light, and my brother got the classic mint chocolate chip scoops in waffle cone! Overall just a great experience. The environment was phenomenal. Decorations were everywhere and it's just a good Christmas spot! The even had a selfie area! The employees were very nice and suggestive!

Nice workers! Rolled ice cream was beautiful but expensive. Hand painted murals are cool.

It was a cute little place. The ice cream looked good BUT in my opinion tasted fake. Almost like it was vanilla ice cream with powder flavoring?

Understaffed, and not able to get through the number of orders quickly. I should have gone to DQ. I got a milkshake and it was pretty runny.

Betty Rae's Ice Cream - Chocolate with torched marshmallow fluff

Betty Rae's Ice Cream

Betty Rae's has long been a local favorite for handcrafted, small-batch ice cream, with plenty of…read morenational recognition along the way. So I'm surprised it took me this long to write a review. We stopped by the River Market location last night, and one of the quickest ways to judge a place is simply to look around. There was a line of people waiting to get in and others lingering outside, happily working their way through whatever they had just ordered. That's usually a pretty good sign. A few years ago, Betty Rae's closed its shops, and there was real concern that the brand might disappear for good. Then Matt Shatto of Shatto Milk Company rode in on the proverbial white horse, revived the brand and began expanding it again. I clearly need a few more visits to work my way through the flavor options. When you first walk in, you'll see wooden blocks displaying flavors. Those are just some of the classics that are always available. The big menu behind the freezer cases is where the real decision-making begins. And if you can't decide, the staff is more than happy to let you sample your way through the case. As someone who considers chocolate chip cookies and cookie dough their own food groups, I went with the Cookie Dough. What stood out most was the texture. It was incredibly rich, dense and creamy, almost closer to frozen custard than traditional ice cream. My niece, who is a far more experienced Betty Rae's customer, swears by the Lavender and Caramel combination. I'm not sure I would have ever put those two together, which is probably another reason I need to go back. And Betty Rae's is about more than what's in the cup. The River Market shop has a comfortable, funky personality that fits the neighborhood perfectly. The servers were exceptionally friendly, and even the music is part of the experience. You can find their playlist on Spotify. Great ice cream. Fun place. Terrific people. And apparently, I have a lot more flavors to try.

Very creamy ice cream with a variety of delicious flavors. We tried the Coffee (I forgot what the…read moreexact name was, but it used the beans from the cafe next door), Guava Sorbet, London Fog, and Pecan. Prices were pretty solid too; it was around $7 for two very large scoops/flavors. (You also get to try the flavors) Overall a great ice cream spot to drop in after a meal or to cool off. One note: the photobooth in the back is advertised as B&W but it's actually color lol

There were 11 people on the tour with me. When we arrived, we were given a small but decadently rich hot cocoa to sip. We gathered in the backroom that has been curated to resemble a museum exhibit with timelines, drawings and photos along several walls to present a detailed history of chocolate and the complete process of growing cacao beans, harvesting, drying, shipping, roasting and through all the ways they are then turned into an array of finished chocolate products. Our guide has been in the industry for a long while and was very knowledgeable and personable. After the history and botanical lessons, we were given an overview of the long process of roasting and mixing with the equipment front and center. Near the end of the tour, we were given 3 small chocolate bars - Madagascar, Ecuador and Vietnam so we could make taste comparisons. Half of the ticket price is donated to a group that benefits cacao growers and the other $5 is rebated back to you for an inhouse discount for anything that you purchase afterwards. A highly enjoyable and educational offering from one of KC's premier brands. Trivia: Did you know that a roasted cacao bean tastes like banana bread? Did you know that Christopher Elbow also has 3 other retail locations? San Francisco, Breckenridge, CO and Napa Valley.

My first thought was that these might be some of the prettiest chocolates I had ever seen--and thankfully, they taste just as good as they look! When my husband and I started planning a trip to Kansas City, I discovered that Christopher Elbow Chocolates is based here AND that they offer a Chocolate Experience where you can learn about chocolate, their process and the company. At $20 per person for about 50 minutes, it sounded like a fun addition to our day. Hands down, it was totally worth it! We went on a Thursday and happened to be the only two people booked for our experience, so it almost felt like our own private chocolate tour. We met the manager, who was incredibly friendly, and honestly everyone we interacted with was welcoming and helpful. During the experience, we got to try drinking chocolate, melted chocolate and a salted caramel chocolate treat--and every single one was incredible. The presentation itself was very thorough, with beautiful photos and examples throughout. We learned a lot about chocolate, their process and the company, and they took the time to answer all of our questions. If you love chocolate, the Chocolate Experience is absolutely worth adding to your Kansas City itinerary. You get to learn about chocolate, taste some delicious samples and then, of course, shop for chocolates afterward. We definitely didn't leave empty-handed! It's a great place to pick up something for yourself or bring home a beautiful (and delicious!) gift for family and friends.
