My family and I are frequent visitors to Jekyll Island (4-5 times/year). My friends and I (we are all in our 50's) walked into this shop and before I got one foot across the threshold, I was approached by an elderly woman who, apparently, ran or owned the shop. She promptly told me to not bring in my Styrofoam water cup, which my husband took from me and waited outside. While my two friends and I walked around the store, we were very obviously being followed by this elderly woman, who kept asking if we needed help. We caught onto her quickly, and made our way out of the store. As we were walking out, there were people walking in with drinking bottles, plastic cups, and small bags of cookies. I waited a few minutes to see if she would ask them to leave their food and drinks outside, which she did not. It's too bad this woman was so judgmental, as I had my eye on a very expensive item in her store. Needless to say, I was not the least bit inclined to give her my money, nor will we, friends and family included, ever step foot into her shop again. I, personally, am a big supporter of hand-crafted items/art. Lady, you lost a big sale because of your judgmental and antiquated approach to people....a southern charm YOU ARE NOT! read more
