I have been so impressed with them these last 3 times that when I had to clean out my in-laws stuff from our new house, I called Omar once again and had him drop off one of their Eco Dumpsters. Really appreciate Omar & his crew. We had a nasty mess of elephant grass in our backyard that was really stressing me out. The day we called,they came by& gave us an estimate. A day after that, they went to work, & removed the whole mess from the yard (and had to carry it through our garage because of no side yard, which is kind of a pain). Prices were reasonable. My only complaint is that we didn't have a time estimate the day of the removal, so it was a little harder to plan our day. I found Junk General by way of yellowpages.com, probably the worst way to search for a business. Booked them over the phone, very friendly, but you can also book online which sounds like an equally reliable method. The truck showed up early, the guys were pros at hauling stuff (no scrawny college kids). They were extremely professional and were able to take everything except paints and gas. They even sorted out items that they thought still had value and loaded them near the doors of the truck so that they could drop it off for donation. They found a bag of batteries and kept them separated from the rest of the trash so that they could be disposed of properly (and legally). Prices were on par with other hauling services I've used. It's a shame we have to pay to get rid of stuff that we paid to acquire in the first place. Oh well. Consumer whoreism. Bottom line, these guys are green-minded, priced fairly and very reliable. read more

Just as with several others here, I called and had a pleasant conversation and set up an appointment for Wednesday between 8-10am. No one showed up. At 11am I called and left a voicemail. No one called me back. At 1pm I called and spoke to someone who said "No one showed up? That's terrible! Let me call the truck and find out what happened!" Great! Alright! They never called me back... If this recurring story is how they treat their customers, find someone else to give your money to. read more

One of your representative arrived (late in the day for such a project) and surveyed the job and issued a quote. The quote included: removal of all debrie in the rear of the property, removal of three shrubs and the trimming of a tree. The crew began at 4:15 in the evening and instead of addressing the rear area, the entire team focused on one of the three shrubs. Removal was simple. The plant was dead and needed a drag from the vehicle by chain. For whatever the reason, the next three hours passed.Two days passed and a number of calls. Then you came out to finish the work. I watched from the inside, and tried to not micro manage, but in the end, you knobed on the door to say that you were all done. I attempted to wall around and we both viewed weeds on the particles where the shrub were removed. We noted that the debrie in the rear of the house was not collected and the growth on the debrie was not removed. As I mentioned this, you noted that the 'other manager was no good at giving quotes. that you were there to finish and stand with your word'. However, on the unfinshed work, you said that you would have to charge an additional amount of $300. The point here is that you work was quoted. We paid according to the contract. You did not show clauses in your contract to add additional cost. As a result of this unfinished work, we are asking VISA to withhold your payment until the job is complete. Please note that the earliest this job is completed, will limit any circulation of this note to neighbor and other businesses in San Francisco. Scheduled a time for pickup, they call me to tell me there truck is almost full and they have to push back the pickup to a specific time I told them I had an appointment earlier. Then they tell me they'll be here in 20 minutes to check it out because they might have some room in the truck. 45 Minutes later waiting at home with a full day of things I need to get done, I call them, and they tell me that they had to go empty it. They just didn't decide to tell me that they weren't planning on coming for another few hours. You know, no big deal. Maybe if people actually did the job they promised, and not try to get every dollar they can fit in there truck then they would have my business. This business is junk itself and needs to be removed. I booked Junk General on-line to haul away some items after moving. I received a confirmation email saying they would be there during the scheduled time window. Approximately 45 minutes prior to the end of the time window I sent them an email confirming that they would be there and was told that the driver called in sick. I'm guessing he didn't call in sick at that moment since my scheduled appointment was almost over, so why couldn't they tell me that BEFORE I waited around for them? They offered to rebook to the next morning, however they've lost my confidence. I understand that they might be a small business with limited backup options when someone calls in sick, but I feel the customer service was lacking as I had to "track them down" to find out they wouldn't be coming. read more

The husband called 1-800-GOT JUNK, and they were supposed to come between 12 to 2pm. They arrived at 2:30. Eh, whatever, right? Kinda like the cable company with their timing. The 2 guys were friendly enough - showed me the chart that they were going by. $446 per bedload. Bedload? So how much is this going to cost me? $1200? Honestly now. I'm at home with 2 dogs on a weekday. There is no way I'm going to be able to pay that much just to get my garbage hauled out. Besides, didn't you quote us $600 on the phone? I called the husband and told him of the situation, and he told me to tell them to take one bedload and be on their way. He came home during his workday, and when he looked outside at the work being done...well, needless to say, he was NOT happy. We both hit the Internet WHILE the Got Junk people were still working. After about 45 minutes, we came across the Junk General. The doorbell rang, and the Got Junk guys took my credit card to take my 2 car payments out of it :( Husband then called Junk General for an estimate. Junk General said they would be out to see us between 3pm and 5pm. They came by at 3:30pm. They looked at the MASSIVE MOUNDS (yes, that is a plural word) of junk that was still left in our backyard, and quoted us $230. Seriously? $230? For pretty much an entire backyard full of stuff? The stuff in the driveway, the patio and the 2 wheelbarrels out on the grass? Yes, $230. We said come back, and they told us they'd be there on Thursday at lunchtime. Come Thursday, while I was biting into a sandwich, I got a phone call from the husband telling me the Junk General was already in the backyard. They really meant it when they said lunchtime! Husband came home to check on what they were doing, and he was really impressed. (It's hard to impress a hard core Chinese Guy from the hood...ahahahah!!!) They hauled away ALL the stuff, which consisted of construction items, old trees, piping, wood, etc, and they did it for significantly less than $300. THEY earned themselves 2 vitamin waters and pretty good tips. THEY will DEFINITELY be called on again by not only us, but our families and friends. Highlights: Recycle and donation philosophy, competitive pricing, very friendly and helpful. Quick turn around. These guys are great, I used their service twice so far and will be calling them again soon for another pickup. They're very friendly, donate and recycle everything they can that is picked up and pickup all the junk for you from wherever it is located on your property. They're website also allows for convenient online scheduling of garbage pickups. I found that a useful tool when I wanted to schedule a pickup for the next day when it was already 11pm at night. Another thing I saw and appreciated was that they apparently do community service beach clean ups once a month. Atleast, according to their website they did and I like that. I've used Junk General a few times now through several of my moves in the city, and every time they have been exactly what I needed. This latest move I had was no exception. I scheduled a pickup in their last 2 hour timeframes (4-6) the day before and they were able to fit me in. The day for removal came and I was informed that there was an issue with the timing; unfortunately, one of their other jobs took longer than expected. I've worked construction a few years, I know how that shit can go wrong despite all of the best laid plans. Getting a scheduling snag is inevitable in a line of business like this, you can't dock them for it, it's all in how the service provider deals with it that decides whether they're worthwhile or schmucks. Junk General is worthwhile. Instead of rescheduling it for the next day, which really would have screwed my month up, at the end of the workday the owner Omar hopped in a truck himself and drove up from San Bruno in rush hour San Francisco traffic to get my junk. When he got here he appologized for the scheduling issue and worked with me on the price to make up for it. Little touches like that are why you work with a small business, because they have the power to really make a mistake better (rather than the "we're sorry for the inconvenience, but we aren't going to make it right" kind of attitude you get with bigger companies). I felt taken care of, which is really what you want from a company. Also, it's worth noting that Omar was a speed demon with clearing out the garbage. He didn't move like he was the company's owner, he moved like he was the lowest guy on the totem pole trying to work his way up. Two thumbs up, I'll be using them again in the future. read more

Junk General did a great job of cleaning up some old lumber and trash from my yards. Two guys arrived on time, gave me an estimate (which matched what I had guessed from their website), loaded the stuff and were gone, all in about 30 minutes. The guys found little salamanders living in the woodpile, and carefully picked them all out and moved them to a safe location, before removing the lumber. One twist -- one of the guys accidentally broke a window in my garage door (hit it with a big board while trying to toss board into back of truck). The guys immediately got their boss on the phone, who said he'd pay for the fix. I got window replaced, called boss with the price, he's sending me the check. Easy, no hassle. As you probably know -- Junk General recycles stuff -- much better than the usual dump service which just pours it all hodgepodge into a landfill. And while green services are often more expensive than regular services -- these guys are actually *cheaper* than the other dump services I researched. I'd highly recommend these guys. read more

Omar and his friendly crew showed up at 7:30 am to accommodate me and hauled all my junk. What a relief. Keep in mind that they do not work Sundays even though their appointment system allows you to make a Sunday appointment. If you need to contact them, I recommend email rather than phoning. I would use them again. Very nice, quick--got the job done! --------------- Omar responded nicely to my email and explained that they no longer work on Sundays. He explained that they "use a third party appointment scheduler that we are about to stop using due to the lack of support from the company. I am sorry for the confusion." He offered to make a special early morning appointment for us tomorrow to accommodate us. If he follows through and does a good job, I will be happy. How could I give stars to a company who confirms my appointment early in the week, and then fifteen minutes before they're supposed to show up, EMAILS me saying they aren't going to come. This after I had waited until the appointment was confirmed before bagging and dragging all our junk to the side of the house to make the removal as easy as possible for them. Now the side of our house is filled with bags of junk that they did not pick up. Immediately after receiving the email, I called them. The message said that they were unable to answer the phone/likely out on a service call, but that they would call back within 10 minutest. No call back. Another hour or two later, I called again. That time their voice mailbox was full. (Full with messages from other angry customers?!) The *fourth* time I called, I got the same voice message saying they return calls in ten minutes. I left a detailed message outlining above and explaining that I NEED them to follow through with their *confirmed* appointment; my neighborhood is not the type where you can leave tons of junk at the side of your house! So far no call back. I will update my review if they make good on their promise. Meanwhile, what am I supposed to do with a Groupon that I purchased AFTER receiving my appointment confirmation - if they won't come to my house??! These guys are *fantastic*! They came on time, with lots of able-bodied people, demolished a huge concrete structure and took away a bathtub, a houseful of carpet, and quite a bit of other large random craziness. They were efficient and very thorough guys - and they were *really* sweet! Oh, and their prices were great! We spent $1100 for concrete removal, hauling of everything, dumping fees, and everything. They were really upfront and prices were great compared to the 3 other companies we got quotes from - and they recycle everything then can! Oh Junk General.......you are wonderful. " They come within the window of time scheduled, and call you when they're 15 min away to let you know they're coming. Who does that? The "hey I'm on my way call" is a very nice touch. They were so fast getting all the junk out. I recently moved into a much smaller living situation and needed to junk a bunch of my...junk. Having read the awesome reviews on Yelp I figured I might as well go with Junk General. GOOD DECISION! I booked my first appointment online and, being a scatterbrain, completely missed my first appointment. Big deal? Not at all; they just left a note saying to call them if I wanted to reschedule. I did, and two guys showed up. My quote seemed a bit high, but I was desperate to get rid of my stuff. They worked really fast, and I was excited to know they would also dispose of my old computer and monitor the eco-friendly way! Yay, I thought I'd have to take it to a different company. These guys even picked up and cleaned stuff I didn't ask them to, like a bunch of cigarette butts on my balcony. How cool is that?? Then when they were all done, the main guy took a look at how much room my stuff took up in their truck and realized they didn't need to use as much space as he thought, so the price dropped over $100!! I haven't used another junk removal service, so I have nothing to compare them to. However, I have used the JG twice now, both times for about 1/2 a truck worth of junk. Two guys show up and do a scan over all your junk, then tell you how much it will cost. Once agreed, they go and take it all away. Really easy and painless both times. The employees were very straightforward, no-nonsense, but nice. You just need to be mentally prepared to have all your stuff taken away. I was also pleasantly surprised during the second visit. I had an inordinate amount of cardboard boxes which took up a lot of volume but not much mass. They were kind enough to give me a discount on their usual volume-based pricing because of all the cardboard. read more

I'm not a particularly tidy person, and after over 8 years of building up a mess of clutter and lots of _stuff_, I decided I needed to be rid of a lot of it before moving to my new house. Having used Junk General one time in the past to good effect, I decided to line them up this time to do my clean up for me. After the movers were done, I asked Junk General to take away everything that was left behind, and I took advantage of their cleaning service. With a week to go before I had to be out of my old place, I put it all in their hands. I'm happy to say that they came through with flying colors. They came out right when they said they were going to, and other than a small communications snafu in the middle of the job -- which we fixed when I called them rather than them calling me -- everything got done when promised. The apartment (minus the cheap, worn carpets, that has some bad stains) was immaculate. My neat-freak father, who was in town visiting my new place, came along and was similarly impressed. The stuff that I didn't want to even begin to start cleaning, like the laundry room that had had a nasty liquid detergent spill (quick tip: don't leave an open 3-gallon bottle of Tide on your washer) was clean as a whistle. The kitchen was as spotless as it ever was (which was tough, with the low-grade, decaying vinyl flooring and cheap-looking cabinets), and the refrigerator was free of the food I left behind and was cleaned out. I think it looked better than when I moved in. I got my entire security deposit back, so in my book, they did just what I needed. And I'm so happy to be clutter-free in my new house. I thought that was awesome. Noon came and went and no one had shown up, so I sent a text asking for an update. He told me that he was going to call his guy to find out what's going on. Shortly after that I got a call from Marco who told me he needed to reschedule because they were busy, as if I didn't know that there was a need to reschedule. So we did, the new appointment was for 2pm same day. 2 pm came and went and no one showed up. I decided to cancel and go with someone else. Beware of the quote process. I made an appt online and was given a confirmation email that they would be over within a two hour window. 45 mins after the 2nd hour, they had not arrived or even called to say they're running late. My bf told me to forget them and that we should go on with our day to run errands. But I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and call them to see what's up. I called, didn't leave a message, and received a call back from Omar. He told me that he would call to see why no one has showed up yet. A couple of minutes later, I received another call from him letting me know they're running late. (No shit Sherlock). He said he would come over himself and give me an estimate in 45 mins but he wouldn't be able to do the job same day. Fine. A hour and 30 mins later, he arrived as we were leaving the house. Keep in mind that we sat around waiting for them for over 4 hours!!! He was nice, gave me an estimate and we rescheduled again for the next weekend. He told me that I would get another confirmation email like I did the first time. Fast forward two more days and I still hadn't gotten that email. I took the initiative and sent them an email asking if I was still scheduled. Fast forward two more days, NOTHING! I went to their website and made another appointment just so I would be on their books for the weekend. Then it dawned on me. Why would I use them if they have been so unreliable so far? I canceled the appointment and made one with another company that has been so far very reliable. Based on Junk General's Yelp reviews, one would think something like this wouldn't happen. But this is based on my experience and it may be a fluke. But because it happened to me, I won't make the same mistake and making another appointment with them. Made appointment to have a self service dumpster delivered, a week later they sent me a confirmation that they would deliver as requested. On the same day they sent the delivery confirmation they sent an "appointment denied" e-mail canceling the dumpster. Clearly confused since they confirmed and denied service on the same day, I contacted them and they told me that I was not in their service area, however their service area map clearly shows that I am in their service area and if that were the case why does it take a week to deny the order? and why did they confirm the order? Then they told me that my city has an agreement with the local waste management company and they will be fined $3,000 if they leave a dumpster at a home. I suggested that they place the dumpster on the driveway then the city has no authority (I later confirmed that with the city), they still said NO.....HOWEVER, for a couple hundred more they would provide full service removal, and they gave me a discount "to make up for the hassle", to which I accepted. And as you can guess they never showed. A complete waste of my time and theirs. DO NOT HIRE. read more

So we recently used junk general, although some of their reviews on yelp seemed as if they let some people down, my fiance and I decided to pay more attention to their five star ratings, after all these are real people experiences. My fiance and I decided to use junk general to clean out my mothers garage we did it as an early Christmas gift.. I gotta tell you the finished product nearly brought my mother to tears... We schedule our appointment on their website and it was very easy to get the appointment that worked best for us. I notice from the start that Their customer service was up to par. We had our appointment set, and when I called them to change our initial appointment, like most places I thought they were going to give me attitude and I tel you here is where they showed the most professionalism they sounded very concern in a good way, and at the same time they focus on giving me the appointment the worked best for us. Finally the day of the appointment the two man crew that showed up not only were they 5 min early, but they looked and carry themselves very professional. The one thing that I really liked about the guys of junk general is that although they are dealing with junk they were very careful in and around my property. They worked very fast, efficiently, and the two guys seemed to communicate very well with each other. I was able to schedule a pick up of concrete slab within 24 hours. They showed up about an hour late (hence 4 stars) but they got through schlepping about 2 cubic yards of broken up concrete from my backyard to their tip in about an hour. I selected Junk General because of the reviews on Yelp. They were one of the very few companies that received all 5 star ratings and had detailed reviews. Thank you yelpers, the service was everything it promised and more. I was in an embarassing situation. Twenty years of junk that needed to be removed for a pending move. I was definitely in a BAD situation. Not only did Junk General work with me to complete the job (we are talking multiple trips). They didn't pass any judgement and were actually compassionate and supportive. Junk removal is a relatively new service and it is definitely something that moving forward I will do on an annual basis. But I had been piling up stuff and not knowing how to get rid of things. It simply overwhelmed me. Without the assistance of Junk General I probably would still be figuring out how to dispose of junk. I highly recommend them. I guarantee the feeling of eliminating clutter is very liberating. I promise you will not find a more accommodating company and extremely hard working. I used Junk General after their competitor 1-800.... called to tell me that my scheduled visit wasn't really a visit at all but instead them coming out for a quote...funny they had done that about 4 days earlier. In less than 8 hours Omar and his team filled up and hauled away three dumpsters worth of trash at my father-in-laws house which included mattresses, beds and a zillion garbage bags. I recently moved and was originally going to keep the Uhaul rental for an extra day to make a garbage run to the dump.
