I should start off here by saying in general my experiences with JBJC have been very good, which is why I am surprised by my recent experience. During my recent visit with Dr. Hightower I didn't feel that I got the attention I needed and he seemed a bit rushed, and this not the first time. When discussing my x-rays during recent visit he said I now have 1-2 degenerative discs, I couldnt tell which, and then moved on to something else. I tried to butt in and say, wait a minute, this is the first time the images have showed degeneration in the disc and I wanted to know, if possible, why, and what to do about it, and if the disc was contributing to my hip pain. Never got a clear answer. I tried to ask more questions about causes, treatment options, follow up, but Dr. Hightower seemed like he had something else that he needed to do. read more

I have been very pleased with my experience at JBJC. Dr. Hightower did a surgery for me last year that was a great success, and he has taken a cautious approach with me on another issue rather than trying to push me into surgery, which I appreciate. Had total knee replacement 1.5 years ago. Very happy with Dr Garcia. Very 'to the point', listened to me both pre and post op. Very happy with PT at JBJC. Recently had some knee pain. Dr Garcia addressed it effectively. read more

Everything was great. The receptionist was friendly and efficient as were technicians. Doctor was professional, friendly and very receptive to questions. My husband and I had one appointment after the other but they took us both at once which I found particularly efficient and helpful. I see an orthopedic doctor elsewhere but they were fine with helping me as a visiting patient. I would return if the need arises and highly recommend others to use this practice. read more

Dr. Bursell and his efficient and supportive staff at JBJC have helped me recover from several back issues and injuries over the years. Both of the imaging technicians I encountered were particularly kind and professional, and staff went beyond the call of duty to coordinate a surgery in Seattle. have had excellent physical therapy help over the years. JBJC is an amazing place! I hate the reason I have to go in there (I go a lot!) but, am extremely grateful that I have them to go to. EVERYONE is amazing! They treat me with the most amazing respect, kindness and happiness! They are truly a treasured find for me. They go above and beyond in the quality of care they provide. Going to this JBJC for treatment was the WORST EXPERIENCE of my life!!! First, the medical staff and doctors refused to disclose that my medical insurance did not cover their clinic. I went to this hospital for treatment three times without knowing it, because of my family doctor's reference(she thought this clinic was still in the net of my medic-ins). During this period, I asked many times how much my medical insurance would pay for it when the doctor wanted me to take some exams, but they did not answer me. I naively thought it might not be much, so they did not seriously answer my questions. The medical staff of this hospital lacked the most basic medical ethics. It concealed the insurance status and the huge medical expenses that followed from the patients who were not aware of it, and these included two unnecessary and costly inspections. As a result, I used my half a year's salary to pay all medical expenses to this JBJC!!! This happened just last year 2023! read more

Horrified by this place. I went in for a second opinion on foot pain. Dr. Woelber told me "let the pain guide you." As someone who has had family members and friends in active addiction, "letting the pain guide them" was how their addiction started. Also, I don't really know what "let the pain guide you" means. I would have rather him said "I don't know. I would like you to see my colleague who is foot and ankle certified, I'm not qualified to help you." During the appointment, Dr. Woelber's demeanor was extremely offputting, and he rudely asked me "what was your goal, coming here today?" As I stated in intake, I wanted a second opinion on the foot pain I had. As someone who works as a medical biller, I was HORRIFIED to see the total billed charge. From Fair Health, I can see that the amount the amount they are billing for 3 views of foot X-rays alone is well above the 95th percentile. Since they are not in network with Aetna, guess what happens when Aetna doesn't pay the full balance? The patient is billed a the remainder. That business practice alone is disgusting. For anyone with an out of network insurance, I'd be very wary and would ask them what they bill insurance before coming here. read more

I have had to use their service on multiple occasions because there wasn't anyone else in town. This place has not only milked my insurance but the billing department has completely screwed up on many occasions. Pre approval was needed for most of what I needed and they failed to get it which took forever to get fixed. This place is a hassle and the doctors are poorly educated. There is now a new option in town so I suggest you try Dr Hightower. read more

I'm going to start off saying, medical care in Juneau (in general) is not great. Where we live (Juneau, AK) more resembles Bush Alaska than Urban Alaska when it comes to health care. The care you get at Juneau Bone and Joint (when you can get it), is not much different than the typical Juneau medical care. What does seem to be different is the availability of Doctors (bad) and the speed of service (slow) you get. I spent 2 1/2 weeks waiting to be seen by a doctor for serious back pain. After my first visit, it took another week before I could get the initial treatment; which only moderately changed my pain. After a month an a half of waiting to be helped (three visits and 2 injections), they refer me to medical care in Seattle (finally). But do you know what they did? They sent my records to Seattle by the slowest way possible, US postal service. I am now waiting another two weeks before the Seattle Dr can review my records and make an appointment. Thanks Juneau Bone and Joint. If I knew what I knew now, I would never wait for Juneau Bone and Joint; I should have paid the money to fly to Seattle right off. I'm sure all Doctors have a kush life; work two weeks, take a week and a half of vacation somewhere. But in Juneau, they seem to be the only game in town. So, plan on waiting in pain for your doctor to come back to town before you can be seen. And, if you expect customer service (like them to FedEx your records) to expedite you finding relief from pain, I suggest you fly somewhere else. Thanks Juneau Bone and Joint; "Hakuna matata"?!? I think not! If you say that to me one more time, I'll explode. Don't just wish me to "be well", people come to you to be made well and that doesn't seem to happen. read more

I was referred to Juneau Bone and Joint by my primary care provider for mid back pain. After several visits with the doctor's PA, a useless procedure that required pre authorization which they did not get, an MRI which did not address the area of concern and exorbitant costs I will NEVER go back. After insurance I was left with a significant balance that insurance deemed "over usual and customary charges " and when the insurance company asked them to remove those charges, they were told a resounding NO. I could have flown to Seattle for better care and taken my entire family for less money and that's what I will do from this point forward. read more

Every time I have gone in or called them, their staff is miserable. It's obvious that they don't want to be there, and they are pretty annoyed that you actually need any medical help too. Basically, you're a huge inconvenience to them. They won't let you pay for MRIs out of pocket - that goes to show how much they rely on insurance to fill their pockets. So we've got greed, slow appointment times, and a horrible attitude about your questions. Because they're the only game in town, they can do whatever they want, and its not good. Avoid them if you can, just go to Seattle. read more
