Things I really liked: 1) Wide aisles and clean store. Not your typical grocery store layout - you sort of wind through the store like you do at Ikea. Rare in DC to find a store that isn't cramped with narrow aisles. Same for being spotlessly clean - though it's a new store so I hope they keep that up. 2) Friendly staff. And they aren't short-staffed. I have never had to wait long in line. 3) Great selection of products, especially if you like organic, vegan, fair-trade, that sort of thing. 4) Location, location, location. Right on top of Van Ness Metro! I think every Metro should have one, ideally two, grocery stores on top of it. I never loved the Giant across the street, so I'm glad to have this option. It is really handy for commuters to pick up thing before and after work. They have some sales you can find, but yes, as you might imagine - prices are on the higher side. Overall, I am thrilled they are open and part of the community.

It was two slices (one black sesame, one green tea) for $5. This was surprisingly high quality. It's set up almost like those markets you see in rest stops or at airports, but everything was really good! They also have dumplings and a few other items that are cooked to order, so there is more to them that meets the eye. You can either get a speedy snack or dine in. I did my wedding invitations through Write for You. They were beyond unprofessional throughout the entire experience. While I had issues with the company for our 6-month interaction, here are the three most egregious interactions: 1. For an 8-week period of time a few months before my wedding, I was unable to get ahold of anyone at the shop. I emailed and called many times. I only heard back after leaving a final message asking if the business was still open and if I'd need to find another vendor. 2. Two months out from my wedding, I received notification that my invitations had arrived. On the same day, I received an invoice that included a $300 charge above my quote. This wasn't the first out-of-the-blue charge that had occurred in my interactions with Write for You. The owner told me this charge was for "ribbons and labor" and thus would not remove it. I was not previously notified of this charge and said I would only pay for what I was quoted. We went back and forth and the interaction eventually ended with: the owner yelling over the phone, the owner telling me she couldn't believe I was arguing over $300 because it's only $300, and the owner threatening to withhold the invitations. She also notified me that both she and her husband were lawyers. I ended up paying the extra amount because I needed the invitations (a fact she certainly knew). 3. Finally, after all of that, there was a typo on the invitations. Not only did Write for You refuse to reprint the invitations or refund me for any of the cost, but I couldn't even get someone to respond to my emails and calls. Presumably because I'd already paid. I don't think I can convey in a review what a terrible and exasperating experience this was the entire time. But I hope to convey to anyone thinking of using Write for You - avoid, avoid, avoid!

Rani also cooks affordable meals for Too Good To Go that are available for sale almost every Monday night and are ready for pickup the following day on Tuesday. When you pick up, she also lets you choose a spice from her collection for free! Very generous, seriously! I have gotten two meals through Too Good To Go twice now and they were always extremely filling and sumptuous meals. Both meals were vegetarian, and I think that's what she mostly cooks. When I heard she was offering Chai with breakfast, I was ecstatic to try authentic chai! I was not disappointed because it was everything I expected it to be and more! I am excited to join her brunch where she has promised unlimited chai! Update: brunch with Rani was amazing as well. She had 3 different desserts (2 types of cookies that incorporated ghee) prepared for us, but we were all so full so she gave us the final dessert to-go. The shop owner / chef is delightful and so personable. This has a small family business vibe. She also had a bunch of spices that I will have to check out next time I'm in the area.
